CFQ or Cinefantastique March/April 2006
Vol. 38, No 2

It is a really funny article. It's like Nathan interviewed the director of Slither James Gunn.
Or maybe James Gunn interviewed Nathan. Nah, Nathan interviewed James Gunn.

It includes the following additional reason (LIKE we need another) why Nathan is going to be a Movie STAR!

James Gunn:
"The crew on this movie had a great attitude the whole time. They were having a good time the whole time despite how cold and awful it was, and I think a lot of that came from you as the leader having fun the whole time.

Fillion: "I had a good time."

I never thought that the lead in a movie was the leader. I thought it just meant that actor would be on camera the most. I thought the director was the leader.

But the lead is the leader of the actors.

It makes sense. The lead is on camera more and if the lead is having a fun it helps others have fun. If the lead is a mean person or hates his job, it makes it harder for other people. And then it all falls on the director to get the job done.

A bad lead makes people forgot why they love making a movie. Let's just get this movie over with...

The lead helps get the job done. And the job is making the movie.

Nathan loves movies. And he is going to help remind directors and others why they got into movies in the beginning. It wasn't just for the money. He has proved he can get the job done. And Whoo-Hoo have fun doing it!!!

That is why Nathan is going to be a star. And we are going to see it happen.

And then the 'verse will continue. Because Nathan loves Firefly/Serenity. And Joss loves Firefly/Serenity. And Joss gave Nathan his first lead.

More magazines should let Nathan lead the interview! Nathan is a leader!

I'm looking forward to when he can produce his own movies. Also take time out from filming stuff to sing a nice CD for us.

I didn't know he sang, OldFogey, tell me have you heard him?

I knew he did wicked good impressions though.

Ok, everybody, I've had a mean couple of days keeping my spirits up, tell me over and over how my 'verse is coming back. How holdin' for my Cap'n means he'll be back.

Well, I know he can draw. (Pictures, not guns. Well, maybe guns too, but I figure that's more Mal's thing...)

You know, Nathan comments in that interview that people have unrealistic perceptions of him. And, of course, that is true to an extent. Any 'celebrity personality' is essentially just another fictional character. But what so many people pick up on with him are people's personal reactions to him - and not just fan reactions (though there are tons of heartwarming examples of those). His coworkers, his bosses, his comic book store owners - (well, maybe not that last one) - they all seem to be smitten.

Have you heard Joss talk about Nathan? How about the rest of the Firefly cast? Have you heard Jenna Whatshername (SLiTHER co-star/James Gunn's wife) talk about him during the IESB interview? Those are the things I pick up on - the effect he has on the people around him. And that their reactions seem so consistent between different people, different productions...it doesn't mean that he's perfect, but it does mean that he affects those around him in a positive way (with the exception of the afore mentioned Comic store guy - but seriously, "Patchy" had it comin'), which, I agree, can only bode well for his future.

And, FollowMal, I do believe we will get more of this 'verse on the screen. I do. I choose to "hold" by celebrating what we already have. I just try not to focus on what we don't have, what we don't have yet, and what we won't have, because I find that tends to tarnish what we do have.

I also take solace in the parallels between Mal's plight in the show, and our plight as fans. I just see all of this bittersweetness and loss as another layer of poetry - as the way, somehow, it had to be, because it is too perfect that way on some kind of cosmic level. It is painfully beautiful. (And possibly a little pathetic, but, you know... indulge me here!)

Anyway, Mal introduced me to Nathan, and as Nathan's star rises, I imagine he'll be introducing many more people to Mal.

No! I haven't heard him sing! And this really bothers me! I'm assuming he can sing because other people have said he sang to them, and he has the most beautiful voice in the world, and I want him to sing to me too. Since that's not happening, , I want a CD of him singing.
