I'm looking for any of you. If you live in the bottom 2/3 of the LP that helps cause I want to have a shindig. Don't have a place yet, but I don't have the people either.
If you live in or around the Jackson area maybe we can have some regular get togethers.
I love this site and others like it but I'm kinda yearning for some face to face.

Op: You're fighting a war you've already lost.
Mal: Yeah, well I'm known for that.

Last two threads with the word Michigan in the title:

Any Michigan showings of FF/Serenity on the big screen?
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=18234

Also I found this
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/MI_Browncoats

in this thread

Michigan Shindig
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=11846

Remember June 23, 2006 is Joss's Birthday and Browncoats are trying to arrange same-day screenings of Serenity on that day for charity.
All you need is a theater and enough Browncoats to convince the theater that they will cover the cost of getting the film.

I used to live in Ann Arbor. Does that help? Kinda far away now, in Idaho.

Good luck!

My car doesn't like long trips, but anything for a good cause... :)

I am from Farmington Hills, live in Yspi and spend a lot of time in East Lansing. I have a number of Browncoat buddies that would be down for another shindig at any time (we have had a few with costumes) and are always looking for more browncoat friends!

I live in Saginaw, MI, which isn't too far from Jackson. If you want to have a shindig, I'll be there with bells on. Seems like there aren't too many Browncoats in Michigan, doesn't it?

I'm in Royal Oak. I would love to make any shindigs south of Mt Pleasant but I work every weekend so can't guarantee days off to get there. Definitely not for 6/23, tho. :( If I can make it, I can probably drag my sister along too.

(Mostly for the bumping so this doesn't get buried again... wow, is this all the MI 'coats on this site? :)

I'll be taking my vacation either sometime in the spring or holding off if it looks like there's any conventions I'm likely to make it to. (Gah... wish I could make it to Serenity 3 in London, but that's a bit out of the way :)

Also I work nights, so my days are usually free when I need them to be. Also can take random days off when needed... I've put my time in at work, and I've earned a good bit of leeway before they fire me :)

Any MI shindigs come together, I'll be sure to find a way to make it out of my hole.

Sorry I haven't posted on this in ia while. It being my thread and all. I don't want to set up anything unless I know I've got at least a few people coming so I'm still in the planning stages.
I am working on it though. Please believe that.
I think I'll let it build for a while more (but not too long) and then I'll start the real work with some idea of how big (or small) it will be.

Oh, yeah. What type of shindig would you all be interested in? Party party? Formal? Cosplay? Or just some like minded folk getting together?
Let me know.

Welcome, IsisUK, seeing as this is your first post here and all. ;p

Far as news of a season 2 coming, well... that's what we're all here hoping for. Chanting words of power and hoping our combined strength can overcome the powers of the Alliance and all. No news on that end as yet. Looks like the powers that be are still waiting to see how the DVD sales pan out, and how well the reruns end up doing on the SciFi Channel. But we hold... ;)

I too work at night but from wed-sat so sun-tues always free. Plus, it means I can stay up really late when I am off!

If anyone's going to PenguiCon, I'm hoping to get either Friday 4/21 or Saturday 4/22 off and currently plan on wandering until I spy something that looks like a browncoat. This was only semi-successful at Synthetic ConFusion being as I'm shy but one of these days I will be less shy. Maybe.

(But I did manage to catch Steve Brust's reading of his Firefly novel-in-progress which was worth the late registration fee all by its own self.)

Yeah, there's this thing I've been hearing alot about lately... called a "sun???" Not sure what it's all about, but apparently it's all the rage nowadays. Must be some sort of fad I suppose, maybe some new dance all the kids are doing. If it's anything like the macarena, well then I want no part of it ;p

I'll be up for anything. I ain't got much in the way of fancy threads aside from my one decent suit, and I still don't have as much in the way of a brownish coat. The other hand, I'm an old-school roleplayer and I used to hang with plenty of live actioners so the idea of cosplay isn't going to turn me off or anything. Anyone who puts the effort into getting a costume together certainly has the prerogative to show it off, far as I'm concerned.

I'll answer again to get this back on the first page!

Appears there ain't enuf of us in these parts to drum up support for a formal. Seems like a simple get-together would be enuf, at some centralish location. I wouldn't not come becuz of cosplay as long as it's understood I'm allergic to wearing costumes.

I won't be there but I have an idea for you. Get a button made that say's "Browncoat." Everyone else will find you. Or you can just sing the 'Fruity Oaty Bar' jingle. That worked for me.

*bump*

Since there are so many new browncoats in town, maybe 1 or 2 are from Michigan! One can always hope.

Oh, btw, I was just at the Royal Oak B&N and in the "Our Staff Recommends" display they had the Serenity RPG Book. Shiny! So I'm not alone here in SE MI!

Have you seen any talk or mention about
a Michigan Charity Serenity screening?

If not, could someone post an invite
to Michigan Browncoats?

As Of April 19, 2006:
17 Cities Planning Charity Serenity Screenings
http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com

"We're inviting Browncoats to organize same-day nationwide (and, if it happens, around the world) screenings to be held on June 23, all to benefit Joss' favorite charity -- an event we've therefore dubbed Serenity Now/Equality Now.

So take a look around the site, and join our Yahoo! group. More importantly, start organizing -- because making this happen is entirely in your hands. "

FAQ on how to organize a Charity Serernity
screening.
Yahoo group to discuss the charity screenings
List of cities with planned or planning screenings.

All you need is one determined and brave Browncoat and 20 or so Browncoats who want to attend a screening. 100 would be better.

It'd be real shiny to get a showing out here in, MI. Don't think I'd be the guy to get something like that going (I have a... thing... about phones, other anti-social behaviour notwithstanding :) but anything like that comes around here, and I'll definately show with as many people as I can muster.

(Or, well... more likely take the bus...)

There was a fair number of past, present, and future browncoats at PenguiCon chowing down on the fruity oaty bars at the Firefly shindig. Hard to keep track as they kind of wandered in and out (it was held in someone's room). And there wasn't much chat, mostly we were watching Firefly on a fairly big screen.

Hopefully some of them will eventually find their way here and join in.
