Okay, thanks to the group here, I now know where the word "flan" as referring to us (rather than to a delicious, fattening dessert, really on my mind because I just read the thread about getting us all back into shape) came from.

Next question: Who first started referring to the cast as the Big Damn Heroes? I mean, who took that episode reference from "Safe" and turned it into something so widely used that it's gonna be the name of a cookbook, gorrammit -- so easily recognized that Browncoats the world over know and use it as a generic term for Mal & Co.? Was it Joss?

Flans came into being, I gather, from the fact that a great majority of people... when they say the term "Firefly fans", often mispronounce it as "Firefly flans".

I know I do... constantly... and refer to this site as "firefly flans dot net". It's aggravating as hell, until you realize that the whole world does it.

And that even Nathan Fillion himself acknowledges it with comments such as "You guys are the best damn flans an actor could have".

As for the big damn heroes... not sure WHO started it, technically, but I assumed it would have started as a catchphrase almost immediately after the episode aired.

And I also need to read the original post more clearly, because obviously, that question was already answered.

*sigh*

LOL! S'o.k.

Actually "flan" was a slip of Nathan's tongue which no one has ever allowed him to forget.

Nathan Fillion, again, inspired it.

"A recent dinner with cast members, Joss and the lovely Kai [Joss's wife] confirmed rumours that we will all be big damn movie stars."

-----

"You already are big damn stars to us, but if the response here is any indication, count on the loyalties within this board to help make it a big damn movie too."
