If I'm slow on the uptake, the MR forum will be the first place you see any announcements about the con.

Well worth the joining, I think.

Plus we can find a few other Browncoats there. :)

Nice group over there. I'm very much looking forward to this!

Work schedule permitting, count me in to the shindig! I live in Lansdale, so I should be able to make it from home in a reasonable amount of time.

Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Enterprise, Farscape... anything else you'd like to cancel?

Then PLEASE mention you saw this on FireflyFans.net.

Let them know where you got your info from. :)

Remember, we Browncoats are shameless recruiters. Any mention of the 'verse is a good mention. Means we get noticed.

Yuengling is also the oldest brewery in the US, based in Pottsville, PA. It's my brother's choice of alcohol. At last year's MR, an attendee proposed that Christian Kane and Jonathon Woodward (Tracey from the FF ep "The Message") try Yuengling. They seemed to enjoy it.

And color me surprised that when I was in Florida for Spring Training, they had Yuengling! In Wal-Mart nonetheless!

I also suggest joining the MR board. News is posted there before the website. Just yesterday it was announced that the Common Rotation concert has been moved to Saturday night instead of Friday night.

That's one of the reasons why I go. It used to be just a 30-45 minute drive to Split Rock (I'm in Scranton). Now, it's an hour to Fernwood, but still not bad.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to fly across the county to all of these conventions like other people can.

Hey everyone, I've been lurking & decided to delurk. I'm Aria & I run Moonlight Rising so if anyone has any questions I'd be the gal to ask :) First I want to say a huge thank you to the two people from here who have been posting & emailing like mad, you guys are incredible! Another thank you to all of the browncoats who have emailed me lending me all kinds of support, you're all fantastic & I appreciate it more then you know.
On to a post made here by RavenU in regard to Adam Baldwin not being in in time for the cocktail party. I don't know where she got her information but it is wrong, Adam will be at MR in time & as far as I know he will be attending the party. Things could change closer to the event but to know knowledge he should be there. If someone hears anything & they're not sure if it's right or not please get in touch with me & I will give you the answer to your question.
Thanks again to all of you, I can't wait to meet you!

Yay! Aria's here!

Now it's a REAL Shindig. :)

EVERYONE do the 'I've seen so much death' dance!

*dances*

Seriously,
I am VERY much looking forward to going to this con. My mom's been very very sick and this is one thing that keeps her smiling. She'll still be sick for the con, but she's also looking forward to it. We used to con together when I was younger, so it's a very nice thing that we can finally BOTH go to this. Just before I found out about MR, I was saying how TERRIBLE it was there wasn't anything around here we could go to. And lo and behold, BAM! I found out about Moonlight Rising. It was like a sign or something. Thank you, Budda, I got my little plastic rocket. :)

We all want to meet Nathan and Adam and all the other guests and to make some new friends. Although, would you consider it 'new friends' if we've been chatting on the boards for months? LOL

Now...how do we bribe Aria into telling us the surprises she's got in store for all us attendees...?

NO NO. I'll be good. I won't ask. But if she's willing to toss a few hints our way...

I won't say. You can punish me with taking away my Firefly. You can bribe me with pictures of Nathan. Nothing will make me talk except word from Aria that it's ok to share.

But some of these surprises do depend on ticket sales. The more tickets sell, the more surprises we get. So make sure you spread the word. We've gotten some forums tagged, but if you'd like to help out, I've got a template you can post on different forums placed at the top of this thread.

Use that one there and post at your yahoo groups, Firefly and Serenity Forums, blogs, etc.

And heck, I'd blow off work for Nathan. Not that I 'work', mind...LOL

Even if it's just the two of them, it's worth tryin' to go to. Never been to any of these things before, though. What're they normally like?

Wonder what all the buffy-fans will think, when a huge swarm of people in browncoats take over the place just 'cause the Captain and Jayne are there.

So does that mean you're going too, PoeandFaith?

I don't think the Slayers and Vamps will mind so much. We're all very shiny people. There have been more than a few cross-over actors into Buffy and Angel from Firefly.

Well, my article's done. I just need the okay from Aria and then I'll send it off on its merry to see who will publish it. I have a relative who works for one of the newspapers near Philly, so I'll see if nepotism really does work.

If Aria oks it, I'll post it on my blog here too. That way, if anyone wants to submit it to a campus newspaper, they'll be free to do so. Just make sure the byline remains the same.

Here's the completed article:

Vampire Slayers and Browncoats
A SciFi Convention with Bite
By: ML McFadden

When faced with a poorly run event, most would complain, demand their money back, and never do that activity again. After visiting a very disorganized convention, a group of fans decided to do something different; they thought that perhaps they could do much better. Now in its fourth year the Moonlight Rising Convention is still going strong. A science fiction convention geared around the shows created by Joss Whedon, there will be fans of his Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly television series in attendance.

Due to sweep into Bushkill, PA’s Fernwood Hotel and Resort from June 2nd through 4th of 2006, Moonlight Rising is shaping up to be good competition for even the massive, corporately run events. Previous guests in attendance included Anthony Stewart Head, James Marsters, Amber Benson, and Christian Kane.

Boasting an impressive number of guests for a convention of any size, some of the big names who are scheduled to make appearances for this year’s gathering are Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Amber Benson, Kelly Donovan, Stacey Scowley, Camden Toy, James Leary, Mark Metcalf, and Ken Feinberg.

Spearheaded by Arianna Ingemi, the committee who runs the convention is hard at work to bring the best experience possible. Plans are now being finalized for panels with the guests, Q&A sessions, fan panels, trivia, and autograph sessions. Like more European styled conventions, Moonlight Rising is also offering professional photo shoots during which fans can pose along with their chosen guest. Common Rotation, a musical group who is a frequent visitor to the Buffy and Angel circuit, is on the agenda as performing Saturday night.

So what makes this convention different than any other science fiction convention out there? You’ll see no corporate cold hand here. The people who organize it are focused on making sure that not only the paying customers are having a good time; they’re concerned that the guests have a good time too. When asked, Ms. Ingemi states that the organizers work hard, “so that the fans can have a little more interaction with our guests and not feel as though (everyone is) being rushed through the proverbial cattle call.”

It is every fan’s dream to be on a first name basis with their admired performer, but the convention organizers are very level headed about it. Ingemi tells of how excited the fans can get though: “Our first year we had one girl come up to the table to meet James Marsters…when she saw him in person she just started to cry and couldn't talk to him until we sat her down and gave her a glass of water.” Karla Steinhoff, co-chair of the convention relates a story a bit more risqué, saying that “…at the charity auction, (someone) jokingly asked Tony Head if they could auction his (rear end). (Tony’s) response was: ‘Sure, it’s for the children,’ and he offered a ten second grope. He ended up raising a substantial amount of money for the charity and gave the fans a fun convention memory.”

When asked, both women agree that it isn’t just the celebrities who make Moonlight Rising special. It’s the community and the fans themselves. Ms. Steinhoff conveys it adroitly: “The best part of working on Moonlight Rising is meeting the other fans. I have found over the past three years that the fans of Angel/Buffy and now Serenity are an intelligent, wonderful, giving group of people. They come from all walks of life, but they share a common love. Watching the attendees interact with each other and the guests is a tremendously rewarding experience and makes me think that we must be doing something right.”

For more information about Moonlight Rising, please visit www.moonlightrisingcon.com e-mail moonlightrising@aol.com or call 609-214-5677.

General Admission does not include any photo ops or allow you to purchase entry into certain events. If you are looking to attend most events, consider a Full Membership or ask to be put on the list for a Premium Membership.

I'd recommend doing this as soon as possible before all the photo ops slots are taken.

The rules:
Bring your favorite beverage.
Bring snacks to share.
Wear the MOST outlandish (or Wash-inspired) PJs you can find!

We went to a Blake's 7 convention way back when and had a friggin ball that night. Just for some fun and to break the ice, we're gonna do it PJ style. :) WOO!!!

As far as I know, we're leaving here (near Philly) Friday after lunch. We should be there around 3 or 4, once we check in and all. When does all the programs and stuff start? We can probably be there earlier if need be, since I think everyone's taking off of work and all. If we're missing some cool stuff, I'll go and wake everyone up early that morning and head off.

Hey Kaele - If "mom" want to be Mary then I guess she has the seniority! nicknames also work...

My drive is considerably longer ('bout seven hours) so it's quite the haul for me. That's why I'm thinking of arriving Thursday and being bright eyed and bushytailed, so to speak, for Friday. At this point, schedule of events is all speculation...but was also thinking, hey if Iget there early enough of Thursday, maybe i could play 9 holes of golf! Not that I'm any good but could be fun...

What's the scoop on tee's - got any idea yet on costs?

Tees...yes. I stopped at a screenprinter's today and found a MUCH cheaper price than what we've been finding online. I must speak to MalNourished and we'll hash everything out. They won't take long to make at all.

I've got an e-mail listing of people who are interested and we'll get to that hopefully sometime before this weekend is over. MalNourished is already working on the design.

We haven't forgotten! :)

Dunno the schedule yet. There was talk of a horseback ride of con arrivals, but I cannot remember if it's supposed to be Wednesday or Thursday. I wish we had some idea of how things are scheduled. I don't want to miss ANYthing, but staying an extra night is not really in the budget if I'm upgrading my room. Mom (Livlass) requested the villas with bedrooms, so we shall see. On the bright side: we SHOULD have more space for a glorius Shindig!

ANNIE

I would like to be on the interest list for a tee, if I am not already there. I don't remember. :)

Sex and violence on the big screen, where it belongs.
