At the request of FollowMal I hereby reinstate this old thread....

Basically everyone should go to this poll and vote firefly.

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/

We're only at 2%. I think we can probably do better than that!

Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Enterprise, Farscape... anything else you'd like to cancel?

I don't know if I can really vote Firefly in good conscience. I have no doubt, if it ran its course, it would be. But the fact is we have to go only off the episodes that were made. As awesome as each episode was, there was only 14 of them. It would be a shoe-in for best start of season, best average episode quality, perhaps best acting. It would be a good candidate for best season... but best show?

I'd vote Babylon 5, but the last two seasons were dreadful. There was some much that could have been done, so many compelling plot lines to follow... and they threw it all away...

So. Here's my solution. I'll go down each list, and cross off shows as I go along. Hopefully Firefly will be left standing.

Xena: That really made number one? Wow. Not a bad show, kind of quirky, but how far can a show about a woman in a leather skirt with a big sword go... Well, now that I think about it...
Definate cross off.

Farscape: I'm a huge fan of the sci-fi genre, but dislike most science fiction. Farscape was too weird for me. I only watched a few episodes, but I felt the biggest theme was being just plain weird. It was like watching adult swim.
Has to go.

Queer as Folk: Never heard of it, but judging by the title, it's a no go.

La Femme Nikita: Same line as Xena. More substance, please.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: Never heard of it, that makes it an easy decision.

The X-files: Never got into it. I can't rightly cross it off, considering its success. I'll hold onto it for now.

Roswell: Aliens stuck in a human town... really can't get into it. Thought 3rd Rock from the Sun was cool, but I quirky ideas don't do anything for me.

Angel + Buffy: I'm a little wierd. I'd definately let a hot vampire chicky suck on me... not the neck... but I always found the shows a little silly. Loved Spike, though. Can't rightly cross them off, because their by our creator, and as others have mentioned, watching them over a span of seasons is much different than watching different episodes. But I'm a bigger fan of the humor in Firefly rather than Angel and Buffy.

Bonaza: Never watched it, just going to cross it off.

Firefly: Gripes above.

Lexx: Never watched, strike out.

Star Trek: just because it was good for its time doesn't make it good...

Stargate: SG1. Watched a couple of episodes, liked them a lot. Can't eliminate just yet.

Scarecrow and Mrs. King: Never seen

Les Filles de Caleb: ditto

The L Word: huh?

Babylon 5: gripes above.

Charmed: The L word here is "for lesbians." Alyssa Milano is gorgeous, but once the cool demon boyfreind was gone, the show was just women power sillyness.

Laramie: Never seen

Hercules: I shudder to think.

Gunsmoke: Heard about, never seen.

DS9: Watched it for a while, but I'm not a huge fan of the Star Trek series. I like episodic fiction a whole lot, with different adventures/plights that may not be related in different episodes, but I also like to follow one or two big time plots throughout a season, and I never really got that with any of the Star Treks.

NCIS: Never watched, but I can't imagine a cop show even coming close to the original Law and Order.

Voyager: Getting back to earth doesn't count as a big time plot line, it was just a device to get them out where no one could help. That being said, I liked the idea.

Cleopatra: never seen it.

The Simpsons: Really funny, but half-hour comedies have to be really special to not be crossed off.

TNG: Star Trek, again... never much liked...

Stargate: Atlantis: Never seen it.

Scoop: ditto.

Ponderosa: ditto.

Jag: see NCIS

CSI: no substance, just sly crimes and slyer forensices.

Alias: Sillyness. You all must think I'm a heroine (female hero, not drugs) hater. I'm not in general, in my story's all of my leads are strong females, but I really don't like the way they're portrayed in most shows. They just don't seem realistic. Exceptions: Buffy, Zoe. Heck, even Buffy's lesbian witch freind.

Bleak house: never seen it.

The West Wing: A political show the best ever? Please, theres bound to be blatant mistruths and horrible connotations no matter who produces it.

Northern Exposure: Never seen it, knew someone who played a recurring character though.

The Rookies: never seen it

Doctor Who: ditto

Avonlea: ditto

What's that leave us with?
Finalists:
Firefly
Babylon 5
X-files
SG1
Buffy

Firefly and Babylon 5 advance, simply because I know them best. Conspiracy shows don't work for me, just personal opinion. Love the concept though, with the chick being proved wrong everytime and still trying to reason it. Buffy is too silly, and I'll probably end up watching at least the first season of SG1 some time.

Can I add one?

Firefly
B5
Due South

Ok, so Due South is really silly and not on the list, but it was funny as hell.

What's that leave us with?
Firefly
B5

I think Babylon 5 really paved the way for a strong, compelling plot throughout an entire series, not just a season or a few episodes, while still retaining the individual stories of each episode, which is real Firefly style like.

Several shows now have gone beyond that, like 24 and Prison Break, where the individual autonomy of each episode is substantially weakened.

So, unless I get compelling pleas, I'm going to have to go with Babylon 5.

Yes you did it just kept going and going . Personally i just voted for Firefly and Angel right now I think Angel is better only because it was on for 5 seasons and im a fan of every season. Although Firefly has more potential if given more time.

Anyone else have any issues with this site ?

I entered Firefly, and clicked vote -
then my Norton Anitvirus popped up saying
it blocked an intrusion attempt.

Clicked to look at the results,
and again Norton threw a nutty.

Just letting folks know - it probably is nothing,
but at least you've been alerted to what I got from it ...

How can we be losing to Xena?
I mean it was good, light fun but sometimes it was just too bizzare (last couple of seasons) and sometims there was just too little substance.

Firefly may have had only one season but it was an awesome season. How many other shows canceled before there were 20 eps have this kind of following?

So I've voted Firefly several times now and we're still at 3%. Everybody keep it up.

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed that Cleopatra 2525 is on that list.

What?!?

It was kind of fun but...WHAT?!?
How can it be one of the top 40 TV shows of all time? It was total fluff! The lead character was an accidentally chryoed airhead stripper for christs sake! She went in for a boob job and woke up 500 years later to join some tough women warrior freadom fighters.

The best thing it had going for it was Gina Torres as the leader of their little 3 woman fighting force.

I will never understand why this show had twice as many eps as FF.

You know why I voted for firefly? Aside from the fact that the one season we did get was better than a lot of shows...because if Firefly ever made it to number one it would be a big #$%@ you to Fox. So there. And hey, I like Queer as Folk!

I kind of understand the whole Farscape thing... I mean, those fans were fairly persistent too. They did end up with their own movie so props to them!

Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Enterprise, Farscape... anything else you'd like to cancel?
