Okay, hatch is back in place, a little scorched but servicable.

Here's hoping for a few day-cycles of quiet routine. Likely things will get interesting enough after our next planetfall. From what I've heard, things have gotten passing hectic on Persephone since the Miranda riots. Lots of politically incorrect people passing through on their way to places as far from the core as they can manage, and willing to pay what the market will bear. Maybe some opportunity for gun running out to the border moons too...

Was talking it over with Jayne the other day; he told me he wasn't the type to put much creedence in the idea of good deeds paying off, usually. But all this work comin' to us as a result of fighting the good fight on Miranda was enough to make him think Inara was right, about "Carmel comin' around."

I considered correcting his pronounciation, but what the hey... Maybe he's right. Opportunity for good honest illegal profit, whilst poking a sharp stick or two in the Fed's eyes. Mighty sweet.

He gets out of his bed and puts on his standard attire (Tan colored cargo pants, bulletproof vest, olive drab shirt, .44Mag DE pistols in leg holsters, snub-nosed .357Mag revolver in ankle holster, combat knife in sheath placed behind the right side of his back, and a boot knife sheathed in his left boot). Pain then climbs out of his bunk and into the hallway. He sniffs his underarms and decides that he needs a shower. Pain gets to the shower room door and notices the door is locked so he figures someone's beat him to the shower and decides to wait.*

*Pain quietly hums a tune that Radar usually hums*

Pain puts his mug on the counter and pours some freshly brewed coffee into it. He picks up the mug of steaming hot beverage and sits down next to Fly. He says to Fly*

The hoop ball game is in full swing. Ertia, Pain, Rocket are up against Jayne, Zoe and Wash. Captain volunteered to fly so Zoe and Wash could be together for a bit. JRC was watching from the catwalk, just finishing his light workout as per Doc's orders. Suddenly, Rocket goes flying halfway across the cargo bay's floor. "FOUL!!", he cries, looking back at Jayne who's got a sly sneer on his face. JRC yells down to Rocket, "He blocked you fair and square, altho you shouldnt'a taken him on, being he's outweighing you by about 50 pounds." Rocket gives him the one-finger peace sign. JRC shakes his head. "Kids." He notices Fly hasn't joined the group. "Wonder how she's holdin' up after that mild thrashin' we got from Mal." Book overhears him. "I was going to offer whatever help I can to Fly. But, I believe sometimes we need to just reflect by ourselves, and ask assistance from whatever god or gods we worship."

3 Hours Later....

*Pain is beat. He's sweatin' like a dog after playing a very long game of hoop ball. He looks at Rocket and Ertia and says*

*out of breath* Did we win? *gulps* Were we keeping score?

*Pain walks over to a crate, takes out his flask and sits down to catch his breath*

*Rocket looks at Ertia then back at Pain and says*

We were keepin' score?

*Pain takes a swig from his flask as Rocket and Ertia find places to sit and cool off and thinks to himself*

I wonder how Fly's doin'?

*Pain looks up sees JRC and Book and says to them*

Were you guys perhaps keeping score?

*Both JRC and Book look at each other then back down at Pain, shrug their shoulders and shake their heads 'no'.*

*at noone in particular Pain says*

Gorrammit one of these days we're gonna have to keep score. *wipes some sweat off his brow with his shirt and takes another swig from his flask*

Sure I'm in although I ain't sure what I can do. Fly's still pretty shaken up about what happened on New Hall, course the Cap'n yelling at her about what happened on the ship didn't help much either.
