I'm probably alone in this, but personally, I don't believe that Firefly should be put on Sci-Fi channel. Yes, I know that it could be good for Firefly, but hear me out.

I've watched Sci-Fi off and on for seven or eight years (longer if you count when Saturday Morning Anime was on). In that time, I've seen them cancel four really excellent shows with (I believe) good fan bases (Good Vs. Evil, The Invisible Man, The Chronicle, First Wave, and Farscape). Some of these cancellations were so out of the blue, it left your head spinning. All that being said, if the channel was so quick to put these shows out to pasture, what chance would Firefly have, especially when it's already been cancelled once?

I would love to see Firefly back on T.V., but I also don't think that anyone wants to see it cancelled again. Putting the show on Sci-Fi might increase the chances of that happening. So as an opposition to what I think shouldn't happen, what are some other ideas for a channel to air Firefly?

Wow... I'd forgot about some of those shows.

G vs. E rocked what I saw of it. And Invisible Man took awhile to grow on me, but I thought it was pretty good once I got into it.

And Farscape frelling rocked :) I was sad when they ended it, but I figure it had a good run. Can't remember exactly how many seasons we got of that show, and it did seem a bit premature for what was essentially the biggest draw to that channel. But at least it was more than a season ;p

I figure there's going to be quite a battle putting Firefly back on any channel, so I'll be happy with wherever it lands.

Can't really say what other channels I'd like to see Firefly come back on. I'll take what I can get ;p

no, you're not alone....i agree with you. Sci Fi sorta has tunnel vision when it comes to programing.... if Firefly were more like SG1 it would be on the air forever and playing around the clock on SciFi....they love that show.
Back before i had the little dish on the roof and couldn't get Sci Fi, i longed for the day when i would finally be able to see some good Science Fiction on the tube, but since i've gotten the channel, i hardly ever watch it....
Speaking of old and cancelled programs... i sorta liked LEXX...that was out there. Dr. Who is probably the only thing i would watch now.....
So, i say let's get the series on Showtime, HBO or some place like that, so Joss can cut loose a little..... i would still expect all cussing to be in Chinese though....

Lex was too weird for me and I never was able to get into Farscape, but I did like that they were experimenting.

I miss Mystery Science Theater on Saturday mornings. Hubby and I are going to start buying the dvd's so we can lay in bed and giggle about the bad movies like we used to.

Lexx was just odd.
Mystery Science Theater was really good. I have most of the dvd's, but there is one episode i can't find. It's the one (can't remember the movie title), with a charater named Rowsdawer...(misspelled i'm sure), but that was soo funny....i have had two cats with that name.

I do miss the space ship of love, too.

Now there's a show that oughta still be on the air :) There's a plethora of bad films out there in desperate need of MST3K treatment. (I can think of quite a few recent ones that have more than enough fodder...)

Back on topic: I agree with Dayve, would be interesting to see Firefly on something like HBO or Showtime. Certainly HBO has the necessary funds... Though Showtime might be a bit more likely to give the show enough time to gather a following before giving it the axe...

Good idea, but if you look at "Dead Like Me" and "Carnivale", you can see how HBO and Showtime can have their collective heads stuck up their asses at times. Still, the chances would be better than network or Sci-Fi.

I thought G vs. E was aired on and was cancelled by USA Network, before it ever hit SciFi. I find SciFi labels shows as "SciFi originals" even if they originated somewhere else. Not sure what their criteria is here. Example: I thought Stargate was started by another company and only recently picked up by scifi. Anyone know anything about that?

Indeed, a network like HBO could produce a better quality program for any potential Firefly resurrection, than basic cable networks.

Stargate started out on Showtime for five years (the best years IMHO). Then the airing of new episodes was transferred to Scifi. Reruns have been syndicated for quite a while. It has always been produced by the same company.

As to topic, I don't really see Scifi as fickle so much as poor. They can barely afford their Friday lineup. Now I feel they would pony up for Firefly as long as it got good ratings (which it should, now). Also, they don't always exemplify a "hands-off" creative approach...

USA is doing well with it's shows: Monk, Dead Zone, and 4400. Firefly might do well there.

Bottom line, though, I'll take my Firefly anywhere I can get it.

IMHO, until there is a fundamental change in "programming expectations" by the networks AND, more importantly, the network sponsors, there will never be a home for great shows like Firefly.

Shows with any depth just aren't given time to mature because they are expected to have instant "CSI" or "American Idol" ratings. This is especially true for good scifi programs that require larger budgets. Networks just aren't willing to risk an upfront loss in hopes of future returns.

Until these underlying expectations are changed, Firefly will never find a home on any of today's networks...and that just sucks.

Well, Sci-Fi did buy the rights to air Firefly and they have ran it a bunch of times already. I think they're contractually limited, though, in how many times they can show each episode. Since they own SG1, they can run the show as much as they desire.

I really wouldn't mind if Sci-Fi picked up a new season of Firefly/Serenity. At least it would be back on the air, even if it's for a short while. And Sci-Fi has done a good job with Battlestar Galactica. Although I can only assume that they don't run BSG as much because they want you to buy the DVD sets.
