Yes, I read a poll recently in a magazine (might have been 'People') about whether people would want to watch Joe Millionaire. An overwhelming percent said NO. I'm in that category; I think it's a deceitful show with a very unattractive male star. I cringe for the poor foreign women in it; surely this won't help correct the image abroad of the 'Ugly American Tourist.'

That's why I never watched the first one. The whole idea of the show is disgusting.
Stupid Fox Network. Stupid FX, too.
I still am finding myself pleasantly surprised at Fox's handling of "24": They let the first 24 hours run even though it had marginally good ratings; brought the show back for a SECOND season; bringing it back for a THIRD season, once again with a no commercials season opener.
What happened?
Ooops! Oh, I forgot. "Firefly" was premiered not only on a bad night for the target demographic (Friday), it was also premiered during the World frickken Series.
Unbelievable.

Fox.

it just makes me nuts: we're all assumed to be eating up the pablum that Rupert Murdoc Inc. spew forth as entertainement, and they somehow sound hurt and shocked when their reality/millionaire/etc phenom goes bust.

can't I just crank up the wayback machine and have someone with a modicum of intelligence pick up Firefly and have given it a healthy chance?

Somebody WITHOUT a bone to pick with Joss and his view of the world?

Fox spokesman Scott Grogin acknowledged that "the numbers were somewhat disappointing," but noted that the network's hottest new show of the season, prime-time drama "The O.C.," premiered in August to lukewarm ratings, then steadily built its audience over the course of several weeks.

"We see ('Skin') doing the same thing," he said. "We would have liked to have seen higher numbers, but we're going to be very patient with 'Skin' and we're going to give it every chance we can."

And why are we giving 'Skin' every chance we can? Because it's an intelligent programme? Because it inverts its genre? Because it's freckin' good? No. Because it's porn. Effectively.

Hey, Joss, maybe you just needed more naked people in your purty lil show!

Yeah, I am happy that they've kept "24". Great show... but why couldn't they have kept on "Firefly"??!!!

About "O.C.": I think it's disgusting that Fox execs are pushing soft-core porn shows like this to teens, because that's who it's marketed to. Sure, "Firefly" had it's risque moments (incuding a few that I found unnecessary, IMHO), but it had great characters, intelligent dialogue, need I go on? (No, I don't need to. )

It's almost as though Fox is axing all vestiges of quality and good taste from their line-up. (Except for long-running shows like The Simpsons, which is still pretty funny.) Let's hope that "24" isn't next.

I would be very, very carefull with kneejerk emotional reactions to shows simply based on the fact that they survive on Fox while Firefly was cancelled (I can understand not liking the show, but PORN?). Many of the same people who liked and supported Firefly like The O.C. (among them myself and Detroit Free Press TV Critic Mike Duffy).

Also, The O.C. has employed two people associated with Firefly connections (Jane Espenson, who wrote "Shindig", scripted the third episode and Mindy Clarke, who played a key role in "Heart of Gold", plays a reoccuring character). Granted, The O.C. isn't great, but everyone (with the possible exception of the female lead) seems to be working their butts off to make it a good program.

Do I wish that Firefly got the promotional push that O.C. got? Yes, but that doesn't negatively impact my enjoyment of a show that is, in the end, pretty good.

Skin, however, is 2 good actors (the female lead and Ron Silver) in a premise that is ill suited to a TV series.

"It looks like a great adventure...That's what it is; that's what it feels like. When I saw the pilot, it was really engaging. It was exciting. It was unusual. It threw me off every now and then. I think people will be grabbed by it." - Ron Glass, on the pilot, during an interview with the Indianapolis Star

"TV isn't an art medium, its an advertising medium" -film director Robert Altman (who, having also worked on TV off and on for 40 years, is in a position to know).
