I know this thread has been started and stopped a thousand times, but I keep finding new things that pop up and make me love the show even more. I blame Joss, and the space monkeys.

In Bushwhacked, I LOVE that when Kaylee has to cut a line, FLUID comes out! That's such a great piece of realism. To think that they're still using hydraulics and stuff just cements it in reality for me. On some other shows or universes the answer would be some wierd crystal or a long series of computer inputs. Not in our verse, plain ol' hydraulic fluid. Love it.

So, what pieces make it real for you? Maybe not necessarily the coolest, but the most real?

Oddly that fluid always looks like blood to me.

Must have been a vein, then... it oozed instead of spurting.

Yeah, I always thought it looked like veins and tendons, which makes sense considering it was done by Reavers. However, I also believe that hydraulic fluid can be a dark reddish brown. I'm reminded of a scene in Below when they try to fix the hydraulic line for the rudder, and there's a not to subtle allusion to it representing blood. I'd like to think that Joss and crew wanted a similar effect on the audience(aka, us).

What happened? He see your face?

I just think maybe the FX guys tried to simulate a fluid in Zero G. Liquid takes on a hardened, rubber-like fluidity in space. (I think)

Not explaining every detail (like most sci-fi) is what makes this show great!

So we can come up with our on theories!

I agree with the not-explaining-every-detail part.

I do hold that the 'verse should have consistent science and technology behind it, but that it should never be shoved in your face a la Treknobabble.

It should just be there, waiting.

The fluid enters a highly molocule-intensive state, augmented by chronoton singularities to produce a reddish brown appearance, which is, in reality, pink, but it's bio-carbon additives ....MAKE IT GO REAL FAST!!!!!!!!!

It works on Trek.....Chrisisall

I've only seen the tv series one time on dvd so there is so much that I've missed. I do have the Serenity movie though.

Anyway to get to the post at hand. Serenity is an older model spacecraft. I do remember that from the dvd. Maybe the 57Chevy of today.

It makes perfect sense that the engine room clanks and clicks, bings and bangs but as Kaylee rushes about from part to part the nice rhythmic hum of a well mothered engine reaches the ears of this Firefly fan. Kudos to Kaylee.Serenitys lucky to have her.

Yep those details add so much to the verse.

Good call on the technobabble.

If the technology's there, you just take it for granted, rather than painfully explaining out loud what things do.

.............unless you work in any CSI Crime Lab.

Talking of which, Nick's face-ferret. Do you think it makes him a dead ringer for Rupert Pupkin?

Though its been said before, innumerably, silence-in-space. This is so very very realistic, and really makes it that much better than other scifi series to me. Also, that the further out from the core our BDHs get the more lever action repeaters and revolvers we see. This makes sense as these are much easier and simpler to take care of and use in an environment like those.

If anyone gets nosy...Shoot em.
Shoot em sir?

Oooooo...silence in space. One of my favorites too.

Good call, Chirsisall, on the Treknobabble. I've been using that word all week. Hilarious.

I also noticed in my last marathon, that Simon's clothes get progressively grubbier as the show goes on. He loses the fancy shirts and vests (by Objects he's lost his shirt completely). Seems like he just simply runs out of clothes. Very realistic. Awesome.
