Hi all. I'm new to this so forgive me if I'm going over old ground with this question. I have never been a big sci fi nut, dont like aliens. Here in the UK Firefly never got a chance so the first time I encountered it was the movie. I have since watched the entire series almost back to back, totaly hooked. How can an excellent series like this be canned? So the inevitable, possibly dumb assed question is, They aint leaving it like this are they?

So far, it looks like they might. But we're trying to keep that from happening. In the meantime, there is some cool fanfic going on. Check out http://www.intotheblack.ca/ So far the best strategy is to support the show and the movie financially, and try to get your friends to do the same. Joss Whedon does want a sequel, but it's a question of money.

Really horrible marketing leading to dismal ratings. I remember seeing some of the ads the first tme it was shown on t.v., and it didn't seem like anything I'd care to watch. Now that I've seen the DVD's, I can see that the initial advetisements had NOTHING to do with the actual series!

Well, not if we have any gorramn say in it! ;p And if it's a dumb-assed question, then I'm guilty too, as that's exactly what led me to the forums, as well.

Mum's the word on any future exploits of our crew, but I think the powers-that-be are still waiting to see how the DVD sales pan out. If it looks like they can turn a buck in some fashion...

Anyways, always shiny to see another recruit. I'm sure you'll get as warm a welcome as I did when I first landed onboard, hootin' and hollerin' and raisin' a ruckus about the unfairness of it all ;p Keep the faith, spread the word, and don't forget: we hold the line 'till Mal gets back.

Hi there,

Just to say welcome on board (I'm sure FollowMal will be along sooner or later with your 'coat).

You're not alone in this (nor is it a dumb question in any way shape or form). Everyone here wants Firefly/Serenity back and we all feel as you do - how can something this amazing be treated so badly and be so unappreciated by those in charge of the Networks. So I guess the best thing we can say is buy the DVDs and spread the word, if we can increase our numbers and show them the show can make money, they have to listen to us....at least, that's the plan!

Until then, welcome to our Browncoat family! You'll find people around here are mighty friendly and welcoming (best place in the 'verse to be!)

Now, as to your question about the cancellation fo the series. It all boils down to happiness. If television networks put too much interesting programming on the tube at once, the universe will simply cease to exist. If you keep tripe on the tube, then the universe has a greater chance of survival. So you see, the cancellation of the series was really in the best interest of us all.

My normal answer to this question is much more ascerbic, but I'm in a good mood today, lots of vitamin K from the sunshine so I'm trying to be more pleasant.

Although I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention that most of it is due to selective and continuous inbreeding among Fox executives.
