*****WARNING!!! THREAD CONTAINS MAJOR SLITHER MOVIE SPOILERS AND LANGUAGE!******

I just wanted to start a thread for everyone WHO HAS SEEN Slither. So leave your spoiler filled reviews, talk about your favorite moments, quote your favorite lines, ask questions, naturally mention our favorite captain many many times, post any articles you've found about Slither, and just talk about anything Slither related.

Note on language:
Slither is a rated R film for its strong violence but also ITS STRONG LANGUAGE. So be warned that this thread may contain quotes from the movie which contain language. Though all who read this thread should not have a problem with this since the only people who can see Slither (and therefore should be the only people reading this movie spoiler thread) are 17 years or older and/or went to see it with an adult who felt it was alright for their kid to see it. And if you are underage and snuck into the rated R film, well, good for you. I had to do that too. I mean... shame shame? Yea.

*****WARNING!!! THREAD CONTAINS MAJOR SLITHER MOVIE SPOILERS AND LANGUAGE and spoilers may not be in the usual [html] spoiler hidden boxes!

Okay, my Slither thoughts/review/favorite moments.

**Contains spoilers and language though I bleep them out just in case a kid is reading this who doesn't know what f**k stands for.**

Also feel free not to read this and just post your thoughts on Slither because I tend to ramble and go off in tangents. Plus, I love to hear myself...type.

I think we're all already aware Nathan is just a naturally funny guy and comedy isn't a problem for him. So of course he was great and is hilarious. But did anyone else especially notice, how well he can still act, pain ? He's just very good at it. Like in the torture scenes in War Stories, Nathan's scene at the end with the tentacles umm, in him... owww.

Nathan Fillion seizures like no other.

And I very much enjoyed all the cussing. Made everything feel more real. I'm tired of horror movies that try to maintain PG13 ratings by cutting back on cussing. Because if I was experiencing anything that they experienced in Slither, I'd be screaming "WTF?!?!" too. So I definetly felt that reactions were, while very funny and for comedic purposes, actually believable. Sometimes the movie was very gross and graphic, but it was always nicely contrasted with really happy music playing in the with it.

-----

Memorable Moments: Big and Small

-Gregg Henry's first scene was great. I just like the idea of a cussing Mayor in public, because I don't think they exist (or at least I haven't met one) which makes me sad and then makes me wonder if mayors are in fact human and not, aliens.

-The 'Mr. Pibb' scene. I work as a cashier and serve customers drinks and you wouldn't believe the amount of people I get who just get very upset when we don't have their specific brand and type of soda... jesus. So it rang a bell to reality and I laughed my a** off.

-The countdown... not to New Year's but.. to Deer Season. That was great. Call it clique to southern culture or whatever you like, but it was pretty awesome.

-Credits music was great. Just watching them walk through a field of dead bodies everywhere with happy music and then to hear, "baby I love you but leave me the f**k alone."

-When Starla Grant breaks into the locked basement and finds all the dead animal bodies there's a shot where you can see that the Alien/Grant labeled some of the hanging ones "coyote." He labeled his dead carcasses, nice.

-Near the beginning at the school there's a sign that names the school's mascot as "Cooters." My friends and I had no idea WTH those are so we went home after the movie and went online to check. A cooter, the town's school's mascot, is "An edible freshwater turtle." We laughed.

-When you see the heard of slugs, they sound like a herd of mice. So its like, "That's some f***ed up shit... awww but they sound so cute."

-There were just alot of great one-liners too, most of which were just some great exchanges of cussing, Nathan's insult in the bar at the beginning being of course, the best.

-Also... Slug infested, blood stained, children with lines? Creepy Awesome - as if children by themselves aren't scary enough.

-"Awesome" -Bill

-When Gregg Henry's charachter begs Bill Pardy (Nathan) to kill him Nathan just pulls out his gun and shoots him in the head. I just loved that there just wasn't like that usual moment and pause for consideration I think we're used to and just expect in films, when a friend has to kill a friend. Its just "kill me" "okay *bam*" keep walking. Great moment acted out perfectly by Nathan.

-In contrast though I also loved the moment between Starla and Grant/Alien right before she shoots the gun to kill him, the meeting of their eyes, the hesitation, that last moment between wife and really nasty alien husband thing...*tear* priceless.

I could go on and on. Oh wait, I already did. But I'll leave that list uncomplete for now, for there are many more great moments. Please feel free to add some more of the many great moments from this film and lines! I just don't remember my favorite lines exactly, plus they'd probably just be "you $@#$#&% c@#O $@#$@# "

Overall, a entertaining fun movie. But I'm biased, because I love the horror comedy genre. Though, its been a long time since I've seen a good one like this. I enjoyed myself, as did my friends. We went during the day because its really the only time to see a film. The only people who go to the theatres during the day are parents and their children seeing Ice Age 2 and adult couples & old people who only see deep oscar nominated films (drunks, teenagers, theatre hoppers, and people going to the special hell for talking during the film come at night when they can act cool in front of lots of people). SO, naturally it ended up that my friends and I were the only three people in the theatre. So we got to laugh really loud and watch the film without any disturbances.

Maybe it won't make alot of money in theatres because its not a trendy, stupid, horror with at least one teenage girl running away from the murder, towards camera, without a bra (which if shown in trailers, will automatically add 5.5 million dollars to its total box office run). But I for one will see it again in theatres, love all the small details, think Nathan looks great even with a coat of slime, tell my friends to see it, and of course buy the DVD. And probably illegaly download that one song from the credits if I find out its title and/or singer.

Please post your thoughts on the film. Likes/dislikes, favorite Bill Pardy moments, favorite lines, etc. GO! WEEE...

I saw the film yesterday, and was disappointed to see how empty the theater was. But everyone who was there seemed to really enjoy it, so hopefully word of mouth will get folks in to fill the seats.

Favorite moments? Any scene with the Mayor in it. I especially liked the Mr. Pibb scene that you mentioned.

All in all I thought it was cute. At least as cute as a horror movie can be. Gross, but cute. And Nathan was excellent in it, too.

ACRAZYIVAN

Hi all.
So, I can't decide if I should see Slither or not. I know this may not exatly be the right place to be posting this concern, but I figure it's a spot guarenteed to have people who've seen it.

I'm pretty squeamish and scare easily. But I LOVE Nathan Fillion. He's awesome. Not only do I want to support him, but I want to see him act more. I scare myself enough without the help of scary movies - but I've also heard/read some reviews where they liken this movie to Shaun of the Dead - which I was able to watch. Granted, it was daylight, it was on my TV screen, and the lights were on. Anyway, I was just wondering if this movie should even be considered for the more faint of heart - or maybe if we should wait for the DVD - or just know in our hearts that if we could, we would see it, but that nobody can do everything.

Thoughts?

Thanks - keep on flyin'

ACRAZYIVAN, see it but be prepared to hide your eyes a lot!!! Nathan is worth it, as are the scenes with the mayor!

I saw it with my daughter yesterday, an early show, and we were the only ones in the theater. We talked during, ('cause the Special Hell clause about it doesn't apply if you're the only ones there) and enjoyed ourselves immensely. "Oh shit! Did you see that?!?" "Oh no, the cute deer isn't eathing that guy? Watch out Chief!!!" She was going for the gross out factor, I went for our dear Cap'n!!!

It was an overall enjoyable way to spend an hour and half, watching Cap'n Tightpants moon over someone NOT Inara was quite fun.

I love my captain

Hey Ivan. I think the absolute worst gore scene is the one where the guy gets slit down the middle, head to toe, and his entrails spill out. There's a thread aroud here somewhere with a link to that scene. If you can stand that and (spoiler) people merging into a slimy, mutant....man...thing then I say go see it. (end of spoiler)

It's quite entertaining and Greg Henry and the Captain are both great.

As to fav moments, I did like the beggining part were the mayor curses a lot then notices the woman with the small child. He smiles uncomfortably , says hi and they walk away. He then mutteres something about "easy come easy go". That last bit just made it for me.

I have to say too, that I was somewhat disgusted by those...chestical...things that Mutant Grant used to turn folks into wombs.

And was did anyone else think that it was kinda cool that the two ladies were about the toughest characters in the flik. The high school girl even saves our Captains butt from a flesh eating mutant deer. I love the exchange between them after that by the way. " Thanks for saving my ass back there. If I ever tell that story, it'll be the other way around though, okay." "Huh?" "I saved you." "Okay." And it is mentioned again at the end.

Also, did anyone else stick around for the bit after the credits? It wasn't much, just a single scene involving a cat and a piece of what I assume used to be Grant's head. Still, I liked it. Poor kitty.

I could go on but I guess I'll leave room for others to say something.

Saw it yesterday, and it did rock, there were so many browncoats there!

It was bit disgusting, okay, very disgusting, but Nathan Filiion once again carries the western role very well. The only problm I had was that there were no spaceships, but other than that the movie was excellent.

There were three people from Firefly in it:

Nathan Fillion-Officer Bill
The sheriff in The Train Job-I think he was either the mayor, or someone else.
Yo-Saff-Bridge's husband who shaved off his beloved beard-Bill's friend/partner

Hahaha! Mine is an evil laugh... Now die!

I'd heard there was something, but a battalion of theater cleaners came in before the credits finished and pretty much shooed everyone out. Guess I'll have to wait until the DVD comes out.

Yikes, just saw on MSNBC that "Slither" had a dismal opening weekend, bringing in just 3.7 million, and coming in number 8. But opening against "Ice Age 2", I guess it should have been somewhat expected. "Ice Age 2" brought in over 70 million.

I saw the movie yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. It was actually pretty enjoyable, though it took awhile to build. I laughed pretty hard at the whole, "Thank Jesus?!" sequence. Also, the line, "Could you pass me that possum over there?" (or something like that) was pretty funny...

Damn funny flick. I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard in a movie theatre. Including the credits!

The song that plays at the end during the credits is "Baby I Love You" by the Yayhoos. It's on their "Fear Not the Obvious" CD. You can listen to it at http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/listenwatch/0,,719138,00.

MAGHAFFAR

Well, saw "Slither" this afternoon...
Now horror isn't my cup of tea,
so I didn't go for that, but really just 'cuz Nathan was in it.
Also saw Roper & Ebert's review of it after I saw the film, and I have to agree
with Roper & Ebert: I didn't much care for it.
Gregg Henry was entertaining as the mayor -- he was the sheriff in Train Job.
But what I realized was, the writer/director could've put anybody in the
CHief Bill Pardy role and it would not have
made it better. Just not that much material to work with as an actor.
Especially after you've seen Nathan in Firefly or Serenity. Made me REALLY appreciate
Nathan as an actor cuz of what he can do with the great lines, subtext and high-caliber
of the Firefly actors & scripts.
Came home & put on the Serenity landing scene from the BDM: worth more in 5 minutes than the hour-and-a-half or so of "Slither".
Then watched "Trash" and laughed my ass off and really appreciated all the nuances in that episode. Realized how comic Firefly is consistently -- and its basically a drama.
Now THAT is great writing.
Nathan said it himself on the DVD box set: Firefly is the best thing he's done.

I'm not sure if this reply is too late for you "ACRAZYIVAN" but if you're still debating...

I have seen Shaun of the Dead (and I'm a big fan), but I have to say Slither is alot more gross than SotD is. SotD only had one really gorey scene towards the end in the bar when David is near the window and the zombies pull him out and then pull everything out... of him. The rest was just general gunshots/gunsplatter.

Slither has naturally the general gunshots/gunsplatter stuff. And alot of those startle sort of moments, which aren't really scary its just you jump in your seat. I can stomach anything but I'm still easily startled and those get me too.

I mean, you can tell when the gross parts are, and then you can just cover your eyes until its over. Bring a good friend or relative who might not mind the gore and they can just tell you when its over. :) There are a couple long scenes of grossness involving tentacles.

If slime, projectile spitting, zombie like characters, slugs, lots of prothetics, eating raw meat, poorly made dead animals, and some blood get you - bring a friend. But if you liked Shaun of the Dead you might like this one. I love both, SotD has very little gore, Slither has alot of gross, both have great comedy, and SotD is the better movie.

I hope that was somewhat helpful. I wasn't quite sure what exactly gets you squeamish so I tried to cover the generalities of what might get people. I wouldn't really call the film scary, its not like something like The Ring where people were haunted by the Samara character after watching it. Its mostly just gross.

Maybe check out a few photos from the film to prepare yourself or see if you're up for it?

This is a pic of the slimey, prothesetic main character alien guy.

I really thought the rubber octopus to help people describe what they saw was hi - larious! Also, the mayor trying to explain it as "Lyme Disease".

For the person who got shooed out of the theatre by the cleanup crew, I have had that happen before, but usually once you remind them that you paid to see the whole thing, they will leave you alone. The thing that really cheeses me off is when the projector operator turns the house lights up during the credits so the cleaners can clean faster.

So who is he?
He's my husband.

First of all, I hate horror flicks. The blood and gore and things that jump out at me...I hate them with a passion. But, I love our captain! My kids and husband wanted to see it, I wanted to go to support Nathan... well, now that I've said all that...Slither rocks! We all loved it! I highly recommend it. We really enjoyed the Serenity comments we could fit it also.

Just a word of advise for Nathan: When your crew wants to take some grenades, say YES! LOL. We all piped up at the same time "Sure would have been nice if we had us some grenades!"
