Haven't seen this posted yet. It's quite a long interview with our Cappy. He doesn't seem to really click with the interviewer and he seems kind of tired of sayin' the same thing over and over but it's sweet to see what a good sport he is- and it's just nice to watch him for such an extended period of time. :)

I'm just so happy to see him getting such publicity cause he talks about our lovely Captain Reynolds and our favorite 'verse in almost every interview.

Great interview if the interviewer was a bit more alive and interacted with Nathan in more of a relaxed way I think it would have gone smoother for the both of them. On another note every interview I see Nathan says he wants a trilogy and Mal to die in the end...Its beginning to scare me. If Serenity II ever comes out...we know what's gonna be coming in Serenity III...that makes me sad. Imagine for a minute though if he and Joss cooked this up to build tension if and when Serenity III comes out...it looks like Mal's gonna die...and all the browncoats know its coming then BAM he lives and everyone's shocked and happy...eh we'll see...

Chindi! Good to see you!

Yes, our Cap'n looks tired but fine in this interview and I love his grins and his lashes.
Currently have a thing for the man's lashes.

*shrugs, dunno, it's unexplainable.*

All the mentions of Firefly and Serenity are good, and it's a joy to hear him say in this interview that he's a fan of Firefly just like we are.

As for Mal dying in the 3rd movie of the trilogy..... I truly hope not!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Thanks for the link. Great interview.

I agree that the interviewer could have been a bit more animated, but Nathan was his usual funny, gracious self.

And no Cappy, you can NOT die in the third movie!

I like the idea of Mal dying at the end of Serenity III, or whatever they'll call it. Him and Inara finally hook up, the independents finally win, and Mal finally dies, maybe even before they win. It'd be tragic. I love it.

Thanks Hearty, that was a great interview on video. The only part I didn't like was Nathan's idea of killing the Captain after a triology, after Fillion is a huge star, when he's 69 yrs old he will have to come back for "Serenity IV: The Wrath of Jayne".

Nathan is so cool. The interviewer was terrible. Does he print out the same stock questions for everyone he interviews?

You've got to be engaged with people for the interview to be any good. It's an interview, not an interrogation!

I thought he looked a little tired too. It seems like he was struggling to find the word "protagonist" at one point; and i know Nathan isn't dumb.

Good luck Nathan.
I hope you keep getting roles.

I think Nathan rocked that interview. That man is really good at telling stories. Ever watch his eyebrows move? I think they're the most expressive part of his face. (And they get me more than the lashes ;)

The interviewer sounded stoned. He really needed to come up with better responses than "wow." "cool." *I* could do better than that, for goodness' sake. Still, Nathan didn't let that get him down.

p.s. OT TheAbyss, I'm almost afraid to ask, given what I know about Nietzsche, but I'm curious about the quote. Good woman and bad woman (fly?) something... And why is it in Italian? (or Latin??)

You know, I think I FINALLY know how to phrase what I want for Nathan.

I wish him a steady paycheck and roles he can be respected for and yet have fun with.

I don't exactly want him a superstar because then he wouldn't belong to just us anymore. *cries at the thought of that* I could never imagine him with millions of screaming fans ready to mob him. He's so gracious in his interviews and I'd hate to see him lose some of that. And if he got too big too fast, I think that would happen. Not because of how he'd react but because of what he'd be forced to do because of security reasons. His own personal safety would be in danger of being compromised and I would never wish that on anyone.

But I DO want him to be happy and well respected in his profession, as well as be paid for something he so obviously loves to do. It's that innocence and wonder that I love seeing in him. He's always excited to be doing what he's doing and that comes across in the intensity with which he portrays his roles.

I love seeing that and I never want him to lose it.

OT

It's in Italian. Why? I don't know.
"Voul" looks like it has the same Latin root as flight or ride, but it should be "Volano" as i read it.

A "bastone" is a baton, rod, stick, etc.

I tentatively believe it to be a reference to either The Will to Power or The Antichrist, wherein Nietzsche confronts the whole Madonna complex; which he breaks down into good woman/bad woman.
I'll let you put the pieces together.
I think it's a joke.

Still I don't know. This is the same guy who wrote:
1)`God created woman. And boredom did indeed cease from that moment.' - Frederich Nietzsche
...and
2)"Woman was God's second Mistake" - Frederich Nietzsche

They guy had trouble with women. Just like Freud.

Genius, but Nietzsche lived a lonely life of ill-health, which gives you weird ideas about the opposite gender. However, Nietzsche's speculations on women are almost invariably pulled out of context. (Like i just did) Read Nietzsche before you judge.

So, Abyss, what book did it come from?

The interviewer obviously wasn't remotely interested in the answers nathan was giving.
He'd give a one word answer like "Great" or "Cool" and he wouldn't follow on from anything Nathan had said. He'd just go straight into the next question.

I read it out of Beyond Good & Evil. It's latin I believe. I might be wrong. It translates to "Good and bad women want a stick." For some reason I laughed out loud while reading it. It's in the part of the book where he just gives random phrases sort of like confucius. His views on women are quite complex and contradictive, but funny and interesting nontheless.

Edit: Wait, I think it is Italian. I also think I remember it being one of his favorite Italian quotes. I have no idea where he got it from. I could be wrong on either way.

Nuclearday. Face it. You're a fanboy. You have every right to be star-struck.

Did you read the story about the dude who does "Into the Black", and randomly ended up having drinks with Nathan Fillion all night? (Nathan was wearing a coat. His coat was sort of a brown-ish color. Maybe he got it on discount)

This guy is supposed to be a professional. Didn't he sound just sound bored and uninspired? Nathan made the whole interview. How is it this goomba gets a whole list of questions to ask the Cap'n, which i would do almost anything for? Some people would kill for that much time with Nathan.
You ever been to one of Nathan's signing? Alot of the women look like they've found the ultimate shrimp buffet after a visit to Ethiopia.

Still, I'm proud of ya Cap'n. Ya did the best you could.

PS: Maybe if i'd been on E!, literally, i would have liked the interviewer. Otherwise he stunk.

Try an' see the bright side, huh, and here comes mean old mister reality with the spiky truth-stick to smack ya upside the head

Went back to the site, and looked up the rest of BDH's just for kicks, and those went a good sight better, too. You know, like they actually seemed to be listening to their responses and the like? So it's not just their way of doing things. Just the one guy.

So... do we find out who he was and start bulk-mailing the smallish droppings of black market beagles for not paying proper homage? Or do we rest easy in the knowledge that there's always room for one more in the special hell?

Ya know.

I went in and checked out some of the interviews with the BDH's. You're right. There was sort of an interesting thing called "dialogue" that was happening in them.

I don't know if this is old news or not, but I REALLY liked the interview with Jewel and Adam. Adam did most of the talking, but I couldn't believe how Jewel totally knocked me out through a crappy internet grade recording.
I wonder what she's like in real life?

Edit: I wouldn't care to speculate on the special hell, for two reasons.
A) I WOULD take advantage.. (stupid sexy space pirate)
B) I talk at movie theatres. I even talked at "Slither". *Shhhhhh*

Yeah, guess who the first BDH I looked up was. And yup, I think I pretty much had the same reaction. (I vaguely remember there was some sort of man-ape gone-wrong thing sitting next to Jewel, but oddly I had trouble paying attention to that side of the screen. :)

It's italian but actually it's 'Vuol Bastone' and it basically means: (Good and bad)women need to be beaten. And that kinda explains why Nietzsche ain't one of my favourite.

For those thinkin' "who the ò*&% is this?, I'm new around here, just registered few minutes ago although I've wanted to for a couple weeks now.
I discovered Firefly only recently, since it aired on SatTV here in Italy, and I fell for it, but bad (ordered my DVD's an'all in a matter of days...)
I checked the world map and found no italians on it, well... you can count at least my little self... that is...if you want to, of course.

Didn't you see his corpse, propped up against Leia like a safari trophy, with a rictus of a smile plastered across its lips?

As to the interview: I'm gonna say it was done in a vacant hotel meeting room at about 4 o'clock in the morning. The windows are dark, and Nathan clearly has 'morning hair' (lots of scratching), so I don't think it's dark because the sun has set. He's also having a hard time finding the precise word he wants (caffeine withdrawal).

In conclusion, I think it's too damn early, there was no (suitable) coffee, he needed a shower to wake up, and there's a moron interviewing him like it's the Bataan Death March. "That was mildly amusing, and we're moving on to the next question, now."

At one point the interviewer actually replies "Right on". Right-freaking-on?!? What time capsule did they get this guy out of? And it wasn't even a exclamation; more like a place holder for "Hmmm, I see. ...Anyways...". Sort of dismissive.

I think Nathan wasn't firing on all eight cylinders, and the interviewer was only aggravating the situation. One of the rare times I've seen Nathan look anything like emotionally dishonest is when he smiles and shakes the guy's hand afterward...

Respectfully,

zoid

I guess you're the official Firefly ambassador to Italy. The job's open if you want it...

I think we were getting sort the wrong idea. Too bad it wasn't a joke. You know, he does joke sometimes. Nietzsche's also a bastard sometimes. *shrugs*

I wouldn't have gotten "beaten" out of it. Is voul from "violate" or something. What's the infinitive?

You seem to have thought about your opinion on Nietzche. That's all one can ask. I still think that there are things to be learned from him, even if the writing is older and less controversial now.

Thanks for the position as ambassador, I'm very proud to accept it, although I could never aspire to be at Inara's level

As for the Nietzsche thing: he may have intended it sexually as in all women need a 'rod' but the old saying means literally (and figuratively)what I said. Obviously nowadays one should only try to say it to any italian woman...

Vuol (not voul) means vuole which is the present of the verb volere which means to want.
Vuol bastone = want stick

End of the lesson... I'm not so didactic usually...

Yes, we have entirely too much fun here. This has been my home on the Internet, and my extended family for just over two years now. I feel safe to speak for everyone: Welcome home, sorella.
(NB: I presume, femmina, sì?)

I love it when people quote a favorite author in a foreign language, without actually knowing what the phrase means. It just sounds so much smarter, don't you agree? On the other hand, hasn't Nietzsche uttered any bon mots in Gaeilge that are sufficiently quotable? That way we can piss off Irish women, too. No sense in being selective, hmmm?

The 'Volere' was a 'pun' (definition: horrible joke), a play on the model name 'Volare', hence the ''. Still, it is a fine example of pre-modern American automotive craftsmanship. A picture says a thousand words: http://tinyurl.com/oos9n

As to the undoubtedly troubled marriage of M. Bellucci and her husband, 'whatzhisname': Maybe we should collaborate on a scheme to show them how wrong they are for one another? I mean, sure, he's 'whatzhisname' and that's pretty good, but she's Monica-freakin'-Bellucci! Sooner or later, she's gonna come to her senses and leave poor 'whatz', forlorn and broken-hearted...

Which is when you pounce upon him. See? I'm an evil genius. Okay. So, leave out the 'genius', then...

Di cospirazione-ly,

zoid

femmina, si

quote in other languages are great: not only they make you sound smarter but they usually start discussions, digressions, research, and all this makes all of us, partecipating to the diatribe, look more intelligent and culturate...
apropos... me like your evil plan let's plot to snatch Mr.& Mrs.Cassel... we can put 'em in the truck of the 'Volare'...
di cospirazione allright

Her or Salma Hayek.
Monica Bellucci, Salma Hayek, or Morena Baccarin. Although my chances are in the absolute negative side of the spectrum.

It's ok. And if anyone is going to get offended for a quote than it's their problem. I wasn't. Keep using italian quotes.
Have to say, all beautiful women... but I like the other half of the 'verse better...

GORRAMITITALIAN and TheAbyss:

Have y'all ever seen Monty Python's "The Life of Brian"?

This is all eerily reminiscent of the scene in which Brian -- a Jewish inhabitant of Roman-occupied Jerusalem -- is engaging in an act of civil disobedience, painting "Romans go home!" in Latin, on a wall of the Roman fortress.

Suddenly, he is discovered by a patrolling Roman guard. Certain he is going to be killed, he begins to beg for his life.

But the Roman guard must have been a grammar teacher in his civilian life, because rather than running Brian through with his sword, he starts to point out flaws in Brian's Latin usage. He makes Brian correct the errors, and then paint it a hundred more times on the wall. By sunrise, the entire wall of the Roman fortress is painted over in "Romani ite domum!", in perfect Latin, so that all the soldiers will properly understand that they have been insulted.

Life does imitate Art...

Relatively,

zoid

P.S.
Salma Hayek is a sexy woman; but she has been replaced in my pantheon by Paz Vega ("Spanglish"). However, Monica Bellucci = Venus de Milo, made flesh. Seriously. Compare the torsos (torsi).

GORRAMITITALIAN:

You may have a hard time finding "Life of Brian" in Italy. It's a spoof on the life of Jesus, and was banned by the Catholic Church.

It's not much, but here's a link to the script. ( http://www.intriguing.com/mp/_scripts/briafilm.asp)
If your browser allows in-page text searching (like Firefox does), search on 'Romani' and it will take you to the scene in question. I find rereading the script as funny as watching the movie, but then again I've seen the film and can picture the physical aspects in my mind.

Your experience may differ...

Respectfully,

zoid

Whoa. Good 12&1/2 minutes of our Captain. That was rather like the dead interviewing a really sexy member of the living! The guy sounded like a corpse. Good thing I was too distracted by Nathan to really notice. He is just so much fun to watch...mostly since he's so damn attractive...and I just wanna say that I LOVE the little shadow of his mustache (This second anyway-then it'll be his eyes,or his mouth,or his... *sigh*

We can find the DVD here in Italy only not in italian... which is a good thing because something always goes 'lost in translation' (did I just write that?!)
I checked your link and I think I'll go shopping this weekend

Didn't someone say that he was being considered as the new Indiana Jones, I think Nathan would be perfect for that role..is their any truth to this!!

I have feared from the time I first saw Firefly that Mal and Inara's relationship will end with a scene similar to the farewell scene in They Died with Their Boots On.
It gets me everytime.
I don't think I could watch it on the big screen.

It would be just like Joss....
he did say their romance was straight out of 1930's Hollywood. Inara's line in the deleted scene: Irana and Sheydra, Inara's line that Mal is not a pirate but a petty thief, straight out of Captain Blood so I have resigned myself to the inevitible.

I've never seen that movie. Sounds like a tear jerker. For me, for some very odd reason, Mal and Inara's relationship is sort of like the one between Peter Warne (Clark Gable) and Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) in It Happened One Night. I don't rightly know why I made that connection. I just love that movie and the romance between the two. I guess it fits in with Mal and Inara's romance being taken from the 1930's.

That's how I think it will end, for Mal at least. Him dying in Inara's arms.
