HUMBUG

I watch: House(Hugh Laurie, brilliant British actor),
Supernatural,
Smallville,
Bones,
Prison Break,
E.R.,
My name is Earl (classic!!)
O.C. (with the actress who plays Nandi, and that fantistic invention, Christmukkah!!)
and, of course, Doctor Who (new series starts soon in Britain!!!)

Lost (2nd series) will start here soon, but I bought the Region 1 DVD last season, so I guess I'll do the same when the 2nd season comes out on DVD in the US.

I bought Veronica Mars on Region 1 DVD recently. I LOVE this sereies. I just wish they showed it on terrestrial or freeview tv. It's only on a satellite channel here in the UK.

But one of my favourite dramas so far of 2006 is called Life On Mars (after the David Bowie hit) and is about a police detective so goes back in time to 1973 when he has an accident on the job. It's been made by the BBC and is BRILLIANT!!! It's exciting, amusing and completely undefinable. I laughed and cried and sat on the edge of my seat, unable to guess what would happen next. Unmissable for anyone who loves music circa 1973, or who grew up in Britain in the 1970's...... Highly recommended.

Ah, the Blackadder trunkhose. The bastard offspring of short shorts and clown pants.

How can you not find them sexy?

Hugh Lawrie, Steven Fry, Oscar Wilde, Trent Reznor, all incredibly attractive men for one reason if no other - independance of mind. They are true originals, they think for themselves. So no matter how dodgy their past roles or nefarious their social habits, I can forgive them (almost) anything.

If you are trying to find a way to like lawrie, just study his face, age and experience has erased every bit of the gormlesness that he affected for Blackadder. My sister fancies him anyway.

I forgot Rescue Me, great great show.

Green Wing. Maybe they'll export it some day.

Malcolm when they ever show it.

Good to see Teachers getting a mention. Don't allow US TV to do a "Coupling" on it...

Earl. What a completely affable chap. I would definitely learn to speak "maid".

The Bill

UK Version of "The Apprentice". Fascinatingly repellent collection of wannabes.

Grand Designs. Watch out for that if it's ever exported. Programme about people building or converting their homes. I can hear the groans from here, but it has an unique feature in the genre: Kevin McCloud - imagine a presenter who never sneers at the people involved, actually knows a hell of a lot about most of the aspects involved, but doesn't show off about it, doesn't make himself a star of the show, and is actually enthusiastic about stuff?

My favourite...

I was a bit worried as well, but it turned out to be unfounded. I still enjoy it as much as when it was on broadcast TV...OMG, that was over 20 years ago! Now I feel really old.

Anyway, the writing's not as shiny as we've gotten used to, but then, what on TV is without our BDH? However, Mac is still fun. I think they've released up through S5.

TV Land is rerunning eps occasionally, but I think right now they're running S7.

KWICKO

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

The West Wing (I was a Government major in college, so I *love* seeing how laws and compromises are made in the REAL world)

All of the Law&Order franchise shows (including Conviction)

Thief

Heist (Does it strike anyone else as odd that TWO shows about gangs of thieves out for the Big Score happened to come out at the same time?)

Bones (Wasn't crazy about it at first, but it's definitely growing on me)

My Name Is Earl

The Office

Gilmore Girls (Talk about a guilty pleasure... but it's witty and snarky, and I usually dig the music used in it. Oh, and the guy who plays Kirk was in an Angel episode, and Danny Strong - Jonathan from Buffy - is on the show as well)

When those aren't on, I'll likely as not watch a DVD - Buffy, Angel, or Firefly.

Two must sees:
1) Veronica Mars- best show on tv right now, imho. Hey even Joss got all fanboy over it!

2) Grey's Anatomy

Sometimes I'll catch:

1) Close to Home- pretty much just to see Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald off of Angel), but it's a pretty decent show.

2)House- really like this show but hardly ever home for it.

3)Bones- another one that i like but on at the same time as Veronica Mars.

4) American Inventor- the crap people come up with is either incredibly ingenious or hilariously dumb.

Ruxton,

I'll admit I haven't been able to watch Ernie Kovacs in awhile, but I have faith that it'll roll around on one of the PBS 'round here.

So what's your favorite Gleason skit? I think mine's between the Poor Soul and Joe the bartender.

Gee, I thought I was the only one here just using the rabbit ears, having told Comcast where they could put their ineffectual cable. By the time I told them this over half the channels I was paying for didn't come in because their equiptment was old and the signal was too degraded by being split so many times (I live in an apartment.) Their answer was that I should convert to digital (and give them even more money. As if.)

I'm fortunate in where I am, as I can pick up three major markets TV wise (Detroit, Windsor, ON and Toledo.) So at the moment I get 3 PBS channels, 1 WB, WI & Pax, and 2 of everything else (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CBC).

Ah, yes, the days when TV had to be funny on basis of decent writing, not on jokes about bodily functions and other crudities. I remember those days. *ponder* 'Course in the old days I wouldn't have gotten a naked Mal, either. I suppose one must pay a price for certain improvements.

And about the several mentions of the Rifleman...I still remember catching an ep of that dubbed in French-Canadian. That was...interesting. ("Papa! Papa! Papa!")

I think we also forgot the Avengers in here, somewhere. Mustn't forget Steed and Mrs. Peel.

RMMC,
I'd go with Gleason and the Poor Soul, but both were just great, and so superior to what passes for humor in most shows today.

One mustn't forget Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin, and I wonder how many NCIS watchers got the joke by Mark Harmon on what "Ducky" looked like as a youngster. (Harmon said he looked like Ilya Kuryakin, who of course was played by David McCallum.)

The Rifleman was mentioned recently by Letterman (I think) when he showed the beginning rapid-fire rifle work by Chuck Connors, and then panned up to his face, which had Dick Cheney's face superimposed. A good TV moment, I thought.

And yes, I watched the Masters today, in the "current" century.

Oh, and I can do without Mal naked, thank you.

Ruxton,

Agreed about Gleason. I'm one of the few people I know who just couldn't understand why folks think Seinfeld is funny. Monty Python is funny. Seinfeld is what's stuck to the bottom of one's shoe.

Oh..speaking of Ilya and Napoleon, S1 of UNCLE is due out on DVD July 25th.

I don't watch NCIS so I missed that one, but am now giggling about it. Thanks.

I haven't watched anything today as of yet. Sunday tends to be busy and when I finally got home, I wandered on over here. Later I may *gasp* read a book.

Yeah, naked Mal isn't to everyone's taste, but I'm thinkin' you appreciated Inara's sponge bath and Kaylee's first visit on the boat in Out of Gas which is entirely understandable. Joss is very nice about supplying eye candy for everyone.

Hmmm...maybe we should start a classic TV thread.

RMMC,

Ye said: "...maybe we should start a classic TV thread."

I think it's been done. I remember recalling all sorts of old radio shows for a thread some months back. A geezer thread? May have been.

And personally, I'd rather look at River's legs than Inara naked. I prefer slim women. Always have, but one big exception is Kristen Miller, who has a similar build to "Inara."

Odd you mentioned Seinfeld. For two entire shows, on different occasions, I sat through Seinfeld, and never so much as cracked a smile. But that show was all the rage with some folks I used to work with, so gave it a shot. Now, I'd rather shoot it.

But Python...!! Just the thought of John Cleese's silly walk makes me laugh. And remember...nobody EXPECTS the Spanish Inquisition!

[I too far prefer reading to most of the crap on TV today.]

Long time ago I was a great fan of Gunsmoke, and clearly recall the episodes directed by Ida Lupino were generally the darkest, and also the most realistic of the series. Never liked Dennis Weaver, tho. Not in anything.

Ruxton,

Oops...I was a bad little browncoat. After I posted that, I did start a geezer TV thread without checking the archives.

Nothing wrong with liking the pretty slim ladies. I was just worried I had offended you. If I did, I'm very sorry.

I'm with ya in regards to Seinfeld...and Friends for that matter. Two shows I've just sat in bewilderment trying to figure out just why folks were watching it, and not even getting a glimmer of an idea. (Ooo...shooting Seinfeld. I'm likin' that idea. )

Ah, Python. I starting watching that when my age was still in single digits. A year later my mother decided to see what we kids were watching and the ep she saw was... Full Frontal Nudity. I think England heard the fuss she made about that. My fav skits are Twit of the Year ('Nigel has just run himself over! What a great twit!')and The Lumberjack Song. And Crunchy Frog...and Pet Shop and Dennis Moore and...

Ah, the reading bug bit as one of my favorite authors (Elizabeth Peters) just had a new release. I'm in the midst of devouring it.

I was a bit young for Gunsmoke first run, but I did catch reruns here and there along with the Big Valley. Liked 'em both, but I kinda preferred Dennis Weaver in McCloud. The person I never liked in anything he did was Roger Moore. Loathed him especially in the Saint (I'd read those books and was vastly disappointed in hids portrayal), Maverick and the Bond movies.

In defense of "Seinfeld", I'm equally amazed at those who DIDN'T like or get the show...it's the same dumbfounded feeling I get when folks tell me they don't like/get "Firefly" or "Arrested Development". IMHO, "Seinfeld" was absolutely brilliant and I consider it the best sitcom EVER. But hey, different strokes, etc.

My current viewing list, in no particular order favorite-wise:

2. My Name is Earl
3. Family Guy
4. South Park
5. Dr. Who
6. Veronica Mars
7. The Simpsons
8. The Daily Show & Colbert Report (they're practically one hour-long show for me)

10. Battlestar Gallactica, though it technically isn't "on" at the moment.

RUXTON

RMMC,

I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok,
I sleep all night and I work all day.
...
I chop down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers.
I dress up in women's clothes and hang out at the bars!
.
.
.

And now all he has to do to win the Greatest Twit award is to shoot himself. He missed!

And then there's fish slapping....

And the unending quest for a bit of cheese, any cheese.

[NO, you didn't offend me in the slightest.]

Again, odd you mentioned "Friends," which I also can't stand. Are we on a roll, or what?

RAVENHAIR

My husband got me started on 24. And b/c of Firefly/Serenity I've been catching episodes of Buffy and Angel. I should do it right and watch the shows by seasons.
