Well from looking around it looks like we have a few past/present military folk around here.

I thought I'd start this and say I'm a current member of the ANG, an electronics tech. I was active for 8 years before then too. I've been quite a few places, but I thought y'all should share first.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Former U.S. Army Ranger.

What kind of stories you looking for? Most of what I did is still classified.

"Veteran" *cough hack cough yes-this-is-tongue-in-cheek* of ROTC for the past four years. Commissioning Active Duty on 19 May 2006 and headed out not two months after that (I'm lucky, one guy has two days). Airborne Qualifed Delta Co.

So . . .yeah, I'm a cad-idiot soon-to-be Butterbar. Any advice from prior service on what your ideal LT would have been? Aside from "far away"?

Well, being an NCO (Staff Sergeant E-6) squad leader I found that the best officers were those that listened to what their men had to say, and who would get the input of the NCOs before making decisions if they could.

Another good quality was an officer who lead from the front rather than driving from the rear. Men tend to respect an officer who is willing to get their hands dirty and go through what their men go through. It breeds confidence and respect in an officer when they show they are willing to lead by example and not sit on some lofty perch and throw orders around.

That's true BrownCoat1. The best Officers are personable and in the trenches fighting for enlisted best interests (while following the rules of course) at all times.

If the enlisteds you look over like to talk with you, that should be a good indication as to where you stand in their minds.

And what I meant about War Stories is simply funny stuff you had happen to you while in the service.

Like finding that Spider which had a bigger legspan than my head (raises hand) or drunken G.I. stories, they're all good I say.

And if any of you want to have a great drivers test, try taking a 5-ton fully loaded with trailer through German road construction where the barriers are about an inch or two wider than the vehicles... travelling max speed. Not even a scratch from me!

Or better yet, try driving through rush hour in Turkey, Kuwait, or Korea... you pick the vehicle.

Well said, Browncoat1.

Best 'War Story' (tho' it wasn't during a war) was flashing my ass at a Chilean general w/ no repercussion.
