Well, it's not exactly dead. It's not alive either. Just sort of in limbo until I can finish enough code to bring the site back online. But I've been very busy lately trying to get my house built. If you're a homeowner, you sort of know what I'm talking about in terms of the amount of time it takes up and the disruption it causes in one's life. BTW, if you're a homeowner, I would very much like to pick your brains about house related subjects.

That's pretty much the status. Galactica is a great series and I really would like to build a great fan community around it just like we did for Firefly. I just have to get some real life projects completed first.

heheh.. home renovations are my specialty! A while back I decided to retile our bathroom. On the first day I smashed the old tiles out of the shower and was replacing the floor material underneath so grabbed my circular power saw to make the first cut. The saw dug in and spun back straight over my foot. I cut through my new joggers(dont ask me why I was wearing joggers to renovate...)and straight down the centre of my big toe. Ever seen the blade on a power saw? big jagged teeth dont make a nice pretty cut. My big toe was like minced meat.. I spent the whole day in hospital and then had to come home and finish the job barely being able to walk.. we needed the shower back.. heh.

I know this aint relevant to anything here, it just came to mind and I can laugh about it now that im all healed and the house is finished :)

Yep - sympathetic homeowner here a couple times over. Just went through a year of repairs down here in FL. Currently, battling squirrels in my attic and mole crickets in my lawn. Just a few of the "joys" of home ownership.

That said, I don't ever want to go back to renting and depending on the landlord to get things fixed! It's troublesome but worthwhile to manage it yourself.

From everyone I know who ever built their own home, you must visit the site frequently (daily, if possible) and ensure you're getting the quality you pay so much for.

Personally, I like to buy older (20+ year old homes). I figure if they're still standing in good shape (esp. here in FL), they probably have good infrastructure. I can take care of the cosmetic stuff.

Good luck! I'm looking forward to the Galactica site since I'm becoming a big fan of that show, too.

Our old house was built in 1910 (about 96 years old) and we've maintained it pretty well, but over the years termites had gotten to some of the main beams and the house began to sink as a result of bad soil. From the inside you could tell the house was cracking in half.

We spoke to a few contractors about repairing the house and all told us that it was cheaper to build a new one than to restore because it was a very old house and replacements had to be custom built.

After crunching the numbers and taking into account that we had very young children (3 and 5), we decided to build a new one. Let me tell you, it's definately a new learning experience for us since there's a big difference between repairing a house and building new one.

Wow! It must be rough to see your home get torn down like that.

Are the trenches specifically there to drain water away from the site or are you actually planning to have a moat?!

Could you please push some of that rain over to FL? I'd hate to think we have to wait for another hurricane to break our current 42 day dry spell...
