Like so many here I am as well a newby. I carry quite a bit of guilt now though as I feel I helped contribute the the demise of the series. I was a Dark Angel fan and highly upset when they canceled that series to replace it with Firefly and boycotted the Series, unfortunately I realized much too late (3 yrs later) that Serenity and Firefly are 10x better.

I rented the Serenity DVD and watched it and was blown away by the story and characters in it. Like so many other newbies I wanted more and bought the Box Set of Firefly. I now own 2 copies of Firefly and Serenity to lend out to Friends and am constantly trying to get people to watch. I have also gotten my 10 & 5 yr old daughters hooked on the show as much as I am. I am now trying to do my part to vindicate myself, feel much better now that I have that off my chest.

Welcome Dave!! We're all browncoats here so of course we're a friendly bunch...unless of course yer alliance - you ain't a mole now or anything like that are ya???

Kidding aside, this is my first home as browncoat, started as a lurker and then joined. This place is just great, people are wonderful, they don't think this obession with all things firefly and serenity wierd!! Why, it's perfectly normal....

BTW, there's fresh jug of mudders milk in the galley and I put some mugs in the freezer so they should be good n frosty by now. Help yerself!! Yah might wanna do that quickly though, MM tends to go quickly...

Now if only followmal will stop obsessing with her photo's of the cap'in in the storeroom, although she'll say shes taking inventory, maybe you'll get your browncoat!! And floralbunny usually has a stash of berries n cream, sometime she shares.....

And watch out for the shipscat - she doesn't like to get stepped on!

I too must admit to jumping onboard the Firefly train late... I took a gamble and bought the Firefly series at Sam's club recently (best spent $17.99 of my life), and was hooked. Such a great show. I sincerely wish I gave my support back when this show was on.. not quite sure why I didn't watch, as I was/am a sci-fi fan... makes you kind of wonder if Firefly would have survived in today's world of Tivo, the Sci-Fi and F/X channels? Sigh.

Oh well.. I'm here now... and at least I still have "Serenity" to buy/see...

I'm a new gal here too. Just joined about an hour ago and have been busy posting. Kaylee is just about my favorite character in all of sci-fi--how shiny is it to have a role model who I can identify with!? I'm an engineer by trade, and I, too, have been called "good girl" at work. :)

I don't watch a lot of TV (OK, we don't have cable, sorry!) so I heard about Firefly/Serenity when the movie was first coming out. I thought, "what is this?", Googled it, and decided to queue up Firefly and see what the hoo-haw was all about. Naturally, I was hooked, went and saw the movie, bought both DVDs. What else can I do? Oh yeah! Loan the disks to my friends . . . I did give the first disc to a friend but haven't heard back if she's watched it yet or not.

Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble--I look forward to the day when we can all get these gorram network and studio execs to listen to reason.

Just a quick hello to all the new recruits posting here.

I'm a Serenity recruit myself, and it's only been since January that I first showed ranting and raving about the fate of our little show. Already feels like a second home to me here, and least everyone understands my newest obsession. :P

Way I figure it, us new recruits just have to fight that much harder now that we're hooked on the 'verse. The Old Guard brought us Serenity, so now it's our turn to return the favor :)

Keep the faith people. Spread the word. And don't forget: we hold the line until Mal gets back :)

Well i'd actually never heard of the series before, until I got the movie. I still didn't know it was part of a series until watching the special features and they started talking about the show.
Watching the movie first wasn't bad for me, however it was like dropping into a book halfway through. As I watched the series a lot of the setting the movie was in got explained to me.
The movie hooked me in the opening scene of serenity dropping through the atmo, and the buffer panel falls off. I do a lot of wheeling and parts fall off my truck all the time. It's nice to know stuff breaks in the future

Thanks for the welcome! I certainly wouldn't mind if it were Mal saying "good girl" to me when I fixed something, and I had one boss who would say it and I didn't mind, but another boss who did and I hated it. But bosses are like that--most I either loved or hated. Now I have no boss--I'm an independent consultant, and I love it!

As for saying "good girl" to a ship or other well-performing vehicle--right on!! You must talk to your car or computer or router. Patting her on the dashboard helps, too, I find. But I've learned from my mistakes--yelling if she stops working only makes her mad and it takes twice as long to fix her.

Well, as most here know, I am one of two or three BIGTIME Dark Angel fans in these parts.
And sure, FF/Serenity is lightyears ahead of DA, but DA is still great, IMnot-soHO.

Back when I had "technician" in my title, a friend of mine used to say that I took it as a personal insult if a machine wasn't working properly.

Now I guess that applies to the machines I design, too.

Welcome to Bibbledy and SerenityLass. Hope I got those right. It's been quite a day.
In the bag tonight (*rummaging*) are noodles, potatoes, cookies, some canned stuff we must keep away from River, crackers.
Oh, and whipping cream. For the berries, of course, unless someone likes it on noodles.

FollowMal, I'm not through with those 8 x 10s. Sorry. Reason I got here so late was that I took a break and went to SLiTHER. Only one real eyelash shot in the film, and it went by so fast...

OMG. Gotta get the DVD so I can pause my way through it. Too much going on in the backgrounds of some of the scenes, and I want to get all of the obscure visual jokes, look at the extras' costumes and makeup, and so on.
