Previous posts I've seen have led me to this... If someone from this site could paste this somewhere as a link for new fans that would be super-duper....Ok....here we go again. Someone should sticky a link for the order and location of things.

1) Watch the series IN ORDER as they are formated in the DVD box set.

2) Watch ALL the Bonus material on DVD box set

3) Repeat step 1 but this time with all the commentary tracks ON.

4) Get Extended Gag reel from Firefly on a site that downloads video... I like Limewire. Or go here...

5) Get Volume 1 & 2 of the Firefly visual companion... http://www.amazon.com/Firefly-Official-Companion-Joss-Whedon/dp/184576
3149/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211682420&sr=1-1
& http://www.amazon.com/Firefly-Official-Companion-Joss-Whedon/dp/184576
3726/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211682420&sr=1-2

6) Read "DEAD OR ALIVE" unfilmed script... Link is here... http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45

7) Watch the River Tam sessions... In Order... Link Is here...

8) Read All 3 Dark Horse comics entitled Serenity: Those left behind, Or get the trade paperback/ graphic novel,Serenity: Those left behind.

9) Read All 3 Dark Horse comics entitled Serenity: Better Days, Or get the trade paperback/ graphic novel,Serenity: Better days

10) Read The Online 8 page web based comic, downloaded here ... http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/8/13/2048723/Serenity-TheOtherHalf.p
df

11) Watch the BDM (thats what us Browncoats call the Serenity movie... It means BIG DAMN MOVIE. Derived from the line by Zoe in the episode "Safe"... "Big Damn Heroes, Sir!")The Collectors edition in the big black box is the best version so far, more bonus material, like the River Tam sessions I spoke of earlier.

12) Watch all Bonus material on the BDM DVD

13) Repeat step 10 But this time with Joss Whedons commentary track on

14) Read the novelazation of the BDM, There are a few Non-Joss insights that are aluded to in the book.

15) Read "Finding Serenity" & "Serenity Found" edited by Jane Espenson, They are a clever compilation of essays written by different folk influenced by Firefly/Serenity http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932100431/fireflyfansne-20?cre
ative=327641&camp=14573&link_code=as1

16) Pick up the visual companion, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1845760824/sr=8-8/qid=1154104359/ref=
pd_bbs_8/104-7343664-1526304?ie=UTF8
and the movie magazine for Serenity... Nothing in there that any diehard Browncoat wont already know, But a joy none-the less.

17) Read "the Killer Angels" By Michael Shaara. It is a book that Joss read, and was moved by the mood, and honesty of, to the point of inspiration.

18) Buy the soundtracks to Firefly and Serenity... Listen to them in your car... pretend your flying

19) Buy all 5 action figures, thats 2 Mals 2 Jaynes and a Reaver.... Make them fight on your desk at work

20) Pick up the role playing game manual... Some feel this important

21) Go to http://www.donetheimpossible.com ...Order your copy of the DVD

22) Go to http://www.quantummechanix.com/serenity.html and buy lots of really cool Licensed Serenity collectible items, from prop weapons, to posters and prints, to maquettes and statues.

23) Buy a BLUE SUN shirt on ebay and wear it while rocking back and forth in the dark, in the fetal postion, thumb in your mouth, wondering how this show was not the slamdunk hit of the decade.

24) Repeat step 22

25) Repeat step 23

Now Any of you Browncoats noticed that I missed anything....lemmee know and I'll paste it in. (If I deem it to be something that enhances the verse') Some of you may have a beef with the order I placed 2 through 5 in. Its just a preference... any mixing of 2-5 wont hinder shit. Same goes for 8 through 13. Enjoy!!

thanks for the list, it is very complete...
and thanks for including the recommendation for the Visual Companion, because personally I think owning the original shooting script, and all of his technical notes (just saying how he would light a character reveals so much about how he sees that character) are well worth the very reasonable price.

I'm book marking this thread so we can post it for newbies...who'll keep showing up as they watch Firefly on Sci-fi channel or see the Serenity DVD

I would like to humbly suggest that inbetween those steps you listen to the following internet radio stations:

http://www.scifiradio.com
includes tracks from scifi and fantasy tv/films intermixed with lines from Firefly/Serenity

or the new "browncoat radio" station:
http://www.live365.com/stations/mr_universe
I've just started listening to this station (very cool) - a mix of music you'd expect from the 'verse itself - folk/asian/country etc.

It's up to you whether you wear your headphones over or under your Jayne hat

May I suggest adding this to your very comprehensive list:

"Buy the Serenity Role Playing Game book."

Then add whatever extra comment you think fits... this game is, after all, for the die hard fans who really want to role play and immerse themselves in the 'verse.

You may want to revise this statement in your first post to more specifically describe what you're looking for. This will save folks from making additional suggestions that you don't want on the list.

Well, it won’t matter that you have mashed potatoes on your wiener, because you have egg all over your face.

It was really quite a good list, as were all the suggested additions, but I really must agree with 11th hour. If you didn’t want suggestions, you should have said, "here is the order you should do all the 'Verse related things in for optimum enjoyment. You may want to add more to your list, but mine is final."

And, if I may say, there was no need for vulgarity.

Sorry, but the only quibble I have is here. The box set has Objects in Space coming after The Message, but in the Firefly 'verse The Message the message should be last, chronologically speaking. I know there are all sorts of objections, but sorry--that's how I watch 'em, and that's how I introduce people to the BDS.

Joss liked Objects in Space more, which is why he put it last, I think. I agree that the Message comes after it, but it's not really a good ending point for the series...

I agree and disagree with both sides of the "Message OiS, OiS Message" debate... The message WAS meant to be AFTER OiS, There are continuity issues, like Rivers Sanity just being point of fact in the message. So technically OiS should be BEFORE the message. Heres the rub... the series ENDS after the message. Joss "the boss" felt that the one show was a stronger way to END the series....and I agree. If the show were to go on, even just finish out the season... The order would be different. but ending on the bitter sweet "I can win this!" almost seems like a perfect (albiet unwanted) last page to the book that is the series... there for I stamnd by my descion... also its less confusing for the newly "recruited" to NOT hear the sentance "when you get to the 2nd to the last episode on the last disc, skip that, go watch the last, when thats done go back and watch the second to the last!" I've watched it in both orders many times... Joss was right to order them like they are, he always is. Clever bastard that he is. And casual, I fully resect that you like to keep things chronological. (I mean its got the word logical in it) And continuity is VERY important to me too, but in a perfect world we'd all be sitting on our couches every Friday night (I'd like it to be on Friday) watching Fox's 4th season of Firefly, then the 5th, the 6th, the 7th.....

TRAVELER

Grayfury:

If you are going to read "The Killer Angels" then you should get an understanding of the Civil War.

1.Read "Civil War" by Bruce Catton. This give an excellent account of the war fought in the east.

2. Read "Stonewall in the Valley" by Robert G. Tanner. Another excellent book that gives an account of Stonewall Jackson's campaign in the Shenandaoh Valley.

3. Probably will want to follow this up "Stonewall Jackson" by John Bowers. Get to know thw man who fought some of the greatess campaigns during the Civil War.

4. Then "Longstreet from Manassas to Appomattox". Gives a good account of the leading general in Lee's command and who's corp did most of the fighting at Gettysburg.

5. If you are interested in the war of the west then "Sherman Soldier Realiest American" by B. H. Liddel Hart. Hart is one of the foremost authors of military science.

6. One final chapter of the Civil War I would recommend is "Shrouds of Glory" by Winston Groom. This is probably the saddest, yet factual, account of the death of the Confederate cause. It is the history of the Confederate army of the west and how it was slowly destroyed by overwelming odds and negligence.

So now when you read the "The Killer Angels" you will have a feel for what is taking place on the the field of battle during the Civil War.

Why not read Serenity Found after Finding Serenity?

River Tam Sessions are on the BDM CE DVD.

Why not read the Firefly Companions Vol 1&2 before watching BDM, instead of after reading BDM VC? You also don't mention moving the DTI DVD-ROM to the computer to check out all the extra stuff.

You know Done The Impossible has a soundtrack, with a bunch of them Bedlam Bards and that Celtic/Filk band?

Tell us about the Easter Eggs, and how to find them.
