Hey Browncoats:

This is Ben, the guy who arranged the Serenity screening in Philadelphia in February (we have two more coming in September!!).

I made my first feature film last year - wrote and directed. It's called CELLAR and you can see the trailer at www.cellarmovie.com.

We're screening Monday, April 24th at 7pm at the Ambler Theater. www.amblertheater.org

Please come out and support *another* kick-ass movie besides Serenity! (Cellar is the *second* best movie from '05 to not find a broad enough audience!)

The cast and crew will be there - and me!

Awards:

Technical Achievement Award, Philadelphia Film Festival '05
Best Feature, (Suspense or Thriller), Hollywood Digital Festival '05
Best Feature AND Best Cast: Four Site Film Festival '06
New Approaches to Collaboration Award, Barrymore Awards '05
Official Selection, Calgary Film Festival, Canada '05

Reviews:

Philadelphia CityPaper: (Recommended) “Ben Hickernell’s clever debut begins with a man waking up and discovering that he has been inexplicably locked in a basement with an estranged friend, a pantry of canned foods and a gun with one bullet… Hickernell has crafted a taut psychological thriller with intriguing philosophical implications.”

Philadelphia Weekly: “This Philly production shows first-time director Ben Hickernell is ripe with promise… With only a pantry of canned goods and a pistol with a single round, Ned (Lenny Hass) and Fenton (Pete Pryor) tear open old wounds while awaiting their fate. The actors are game-Pryor and Karen Peakes, as Fenton's love interest Natalie, give particularly fresh performances… Cellar is a surprisingly handsome small-budget production that's not without its dramatic moments.”

The Triangle: “Top of the line low-budget filmmaking… Mark my words, watch out for the name Ben Hickernell, and if he ever makes another film, go see it.”

Scott Johnston, Philadelphia Film Festival Curator: “Armed with a solid script and considerable talent in front of (and behind) his 24p camera, writer-director Ben Hickernell has crafted a taut and dramatic piece of cinema… this well-crafted tale is made even more engaging by lead actors (and Barrymore Award-winners) Pryor and Haas, both delivering excellent performances… But the heart of this film's success is the storytelling, and Hickernell boldly delivers the goods… an outstanding, assured directorial debut by a Philadelphia talent who clearly takes pleasure in keeping his audience thoroughly entertained.”

OT, but I figure since it'll bump the thread you won't mind:

You're in Ambler? That's where I work so I'm distinctly intrigued at the possibility of another Browncoat in the vicinity...

of course i don't mind!

actually, i live in center city, and i work at the bryn mawr film institute.

did you hear about our serenity screenings in february?

we're showing it again in september...

anyway, the Ambler is showing the film as part of their cinemateque series... so i don't live there, but i have been there - and the ambler is awesome...

there are lots of philly area browncoats, actually! our serenity screenings were packed!

so come on out for seenity in sept. and come out and see CELLAR, you won't regret it, i think...

yeah - the philadelphia browncoats forum on yahoo groups seems smaller than the actual # of people, especially juding by how many folks came out for serenity (although some of those were from other cities, truth be told...)

I did hear about the screening you had in February. Unfortunately it was mid-March at the time...

I've got September 29th and 30th on my calendar already, and I'm trying to ensure that one of my recent converts will be able to give me a ride because even though I believe I read somewhere that Septa goes right to the theater, they don't run trains at 2am ;)

I've also been to one of the Serenity Saturdays in Telford and I'm going to the one tomorrow too...

Congrats on your success so far, I hope more comes your way.
