After watching all the behind the scenes stuff on the extra features on the movie/series and internet. And let me just say I'm one of those former hardcore trekkers. (original series) For those of you whom like Trek as well. Wouldn't you say it's like watching a young Gene Rodenberry? If the net existed back then and you could watch Gene directing a scene in Star Trek, it would look something like this: http://www.fireflyfans.net/firefly/features.htm
Firefly gives me the same feeling as Star Trek first did when I watched it. And it took 10 years for Trek to be made into a movie. We got lucky! This series is so destined to become more it is not even funny. Relax guys....we've got Joss Whedon on our side!!!
P.S. When I liken Whedon to Roddenberry I only refer to character developement. And being able to create something new and special. I know...Serenity is no where near being the Enterprise. Serenity is like Angelina Jolie/ and Enterprise is like Sharon Stone. Both sexy. Just different. :)

For the record, Gene Roddenberry never directed. Just FYI.

I stand corrected......
You see my point though...the fans kept it alive for 10 years. While Roddenberry worked hard to revive it creatively. So as strong as Serenity fans are....and as dedicated as Joss is. We have nothing to worry about. Plus the numbers help out a whole hell of a lot.
Later,
Mike

Good idea/observation...

Just don't let it lull you into a false sense of security... If we become complacent, it will die on the vine.
