My husband and I were watching the pilot with director commentary this evening. Joss mentioned that the relationship between River and Simon is his favorite. This made me ask my husband what his favorite relationship was. He never did tell me, but he replied right away that he knew what mine was....and he was correct (must be why I love him).

Anyway - let's hear what your favorite Firefly relationship is. Should be interesting to read.

I'll have to agree with Joss on this one. Sean and Summer play that relationship so closely and so well that it's hard to believe they're NOT brother and sister!

I have to suggest the Zoe/Wash relationship, simply cuz I am impressed with how Alan and Gina actually make it seem like they are a married couple occasionally at odds with each other's behaviour.

I am just glad Joss fought to keep them married after Fox wanted them to be merely dating or attracted to one another (a la Simon and Kaylee or Mal and Inara).

I'll agree with that relationship as well. Heck, all ten characters have great relationships with eachother.

My fave is definatley the River and Simon relationship. Just the lengths that Simon will go to for his sister.... makes me value my own.
The episode "Safe" is one of my fave's for that very reason.

Mal and Zoe. I love how strong and unspoken their relationship is, without the typical romantic thing going on.

Wash and Jayne's relationship just cracks me up.

I'll have to go with Wash and Zoƫ. I love that we actually got a loving adult relationship along with all the little bumps that go with it as well as the constant work that keeps going into one to keep it going.

My seconf fav is a tie between Kaylee with Serenity and Kaylee and Mal. She's got such faith and devotion to both, it's so sweet. And to see how Mal ends up indulging Kaylee inspite of himself is adorable.

Jayne and Book is good. They sort of knock around together, but without all of the cliched mismatched buddy crap.

Probably facing him down over Laurence's unconcious body put Book on Jayne's "Respect" map. That, and the way Book put Dobson down. Whop! no messing.

Jayne's always sniping and probing about Book's comprehensive knowledge of lawlessness and the lawless. Book accommodates his curiosity by being as unforthcoming as usual.

Perfect match.

Then again they all are. Mal with his girls. Kaylee is a daughter on loan, and on a relatively long leash. River is his daughter, who he will not give up to maintain position, advance others' or bend to the Alliance. Safe? Daddy?

Jackass when it comes to Inara, though. But that, darlin's,is what he does...

Wash and Zoe are so comfortable. They're together, it's right, and no further comment is needed. You wouldn't want to pry enough to earn a look and a raised eyebrow from Zoe, would you?

Simon and Kaylee. Just need to give him a little time to get the whole wooin' and courtin' thing sorted out. He'll manage eventually.

Really, Gaffeman is only still alive because he's fallen for the only person on board who is worse at firearms handling than him.

My favourite relationship is without a doubt the Simon/River relationship. Sean and Summer have this great chemistry that really makes you love those two together. I sort of love how Simon is "a man of logic" in someways and he has to adapt and think in different ways with River now that she has very little logic left.

River is more logical than anyone else on the show. She just gets her facts mixed up.

True. But he thinks... or thought or whatever... that she's unlogical and therefore forces him to think in a different way to try and understand her (without much success at least in the earlier episodes)

I agree that River is more logical than all the rest, but she doesn't get her facts mixed up at all - it is just that she sees/knows many facts the others have not seen or learned yet. So to them she seems confused - but it is them that are the confused ones and it is their confusion that makes it so hard for River to communicate with them and makes her doubt her own sanity.

IMHO, anyway ;-)

REDLAVA

My favorite is one that hasn't been touched on too much until Objects in Space, and the BDM. Mal and River have a very complicated relationship probably even more so than with Inara.

During almost the entire series Mal's attitude toward River is keep her quiet and out of my way and we won't have a problem. After his mind has to do a 180 and go from not trustung her at all to having to trust her completely in Objects in Space you see the seeds of the relationship being born. The BDM gave us a little more with the robbery scenes and the bar fight, going from trust to untrust again. Hopefully with the BDM2 we will se this being evolved even more.

Mal did trust her to fly serenity into orbit at the end of BDM, so she has already returned to a position on his "trusted" side.

WHOOPS

For me the best relationships are;

Mal and Inara - They play that tension thing really well and you can see they want to be together but for some reason never seem to, it just adds more depth to one and other.

Wash and Jayne - They are always ripping into each other and bouncing off each other. Plus some of the best lines are between both of them (for me anyways)

I'm going to go with Mal and River as one of my favourites, too. 'Little one' kills me; it's supposedly careless but then not. So un-obvious too.

Like the protective Kaele/Mal thing too.

And Jayne and Mal. That's been pretty well discussed on another thread.

It's that strength thing Inara's muttering about on 'Heart of Gold'. Damn fool.

On a non-Mal front? Simon and Inara. Just from a background point of view, they have a natural affiliation. Could lead to some very interesting jealousy scenarios in later times...

CHESS

When I see Simon and River it makes me feel I should be nicer to my brother.

I like the Simon/Mal relationship both in a slashy and non slashy way. All the relationships on Serenity are so intricate but I really like Simon/Mal, Zoe/Wash and River/Book
