In War Stories, Mal talks about Zoe lookin' mighty fine, and wanting to get a piece that. Now I know it was to rile Wash into not losin' consciousness, but if the series had had a 7 year run like Buffy did, do you think Mal and Zoe ever would have hit it (even by accident) to create a little internal tension?
I guess I mean to ask just how soap-opera-ey do you think Firefly might have got given a long run?

Hmm, I hope not (that's just me though). I love...er...loved the Wash/Zoe relationship and was always hoping for the eventual Mal/Inara relationship to finally start up (not because I'm by nature an especially big 'relationship' kinda guy, just because it was so gorram obvious they were crazy about each other but not willing to admit their feelings.)

One of the things I loved about Firefly was it was real and fun and compelling without ever being soap-opera-ish, that was part of the reason (I may get shot for saying this...) that I went off of Angel around season 3 - it became too much of a soap-opera for my tastes IMHO.

Firefly never felt that way, and I hope it would never become that.

So, that's my two cents.

America loves a winner!

As the characters have such a history BEFORE Firefly, I don't see it happening. There might have been a time before hand, but I kinda doubt it. With Inara clearly on Mal's mind, and wanting to honour Wash's memory, I just don't see it.

Now, I don't put it past Joss to throw such a curve ball , given enough time. Joss loves to tweak the fans, and holds nothing sacred. Remember Cordy and Conner ? PLEASE!

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Actually, no. Like SimonB above, the soap-nature of Angel was starting to get to me (and I could see more coming), but unlike him, I didn't make it past Pylea.
Somehow, the soap stuff didn't bother me as much in Buffy, go figure.

But I agree that Joss might have hit us with it as a dramatic tool. Don't know if I'd have accepted it, either.

If they did (I wouldn't rule it out, becuase it would be damn dramatic and Joss is all about drama), it would only have been after Wash died. Joss has made it pretty clear that he wanted Wash and Zoe to be a happily married couple, so I don't think either of them would EVER have cheated. Would their be an episode arc where one of them thought about it? Maybe (though I doubt it). Would one of them cheat? NO!

However, if Wash died (whether because they went for the "sympathy kill" in season two, or because the series restarts and the BDM events are cannon) then I think there is a chance it would happen. And if it did, they would regret it the next morning. A LOT. I don't think they'd ever be a couple, so much as a tortured one night stand. And then they'd be angsty, and I like my Mal angsty, so in its own way it could work? Maybe?

In the words of the Hero Of Canton, that is right unsettling.

I'm all for unusual pairings, but no. Just...no. Mal and Zoe together gives me the creeping willies. However, given Whedon's penchant for screwing with fans, I could see him putting it into the show.

At last.

Accident? How "accident?" During a tailspin? Is Chris's sonisall reading here? Cover his little eyes at once, then sit down with him far, far from the screen and explain what is accident.

I think Mal would get with Kaylee before getting with Zoe . . .and the chances of that happening are pretty much the same as Simon deciding to turn River over to the Blue Hands

I don't know, but I have a feeling Mal would be sore in the morning. Did I type that out loud?

"The people who made the show, and the people who saw the show, which is roughly the same number of people, fell in love with it, a little bit too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called unrealistic, quixotic, obsessive... In my world, they're called Browncoats."

Season 5 went a fair bit in damage control for that yucky post Pylea nonsense. If nothing else, I'd suggest you check it out.

Ever been with a warrior woman?--Wash in "Bushwacked"

I don't think so. Mal and Zoe are great friends, lots of respect for each other, work well together, but I just don't see them as lovers--even by accident.

Do you suppose if they were both really drunk and grieving over the loss of Wash and Inara, respectively, that sympathy might overcome them?...NAAAAAAA

I just don't see it.

I'm not sure. I think Wash is too important to Zoe, and I don't think she would sully it(their relationship) by sleeping with Mal, even by accident.

PS. I've tried to post a pic in my sig, but when I posted the URL it came up with the URL NOT the pic I wanted, any suggestions?

Jossisagod,

Don't use the image tags.. the site doesn't need them to post a pic.

Just copy and paste the url straight.

as in http:/www. and so on and so forth.

Hope that works for you.
