I am now the proud owner of a personally-made Jayne hat!!!

My good friend Jean (and fellow browncoat) delivered a box to me after work today. It had a Jayne hat (made by her) as well as a hand written note from "my mother". It was such an awesome gift!!! We then watched "The Message" while I wore my hat. It was GREAT!!! (There were also a few glasses of wine involved..served by my Browncoat husband.)

She said that the pattern she found for knitting the hat specifically said that you had to include the hand-written note....how sweet.

I will be wearing my new hat to work tomorrow....regardless of comments or criticism.

Anyone else have a Jayne hat? How often do you wear it? (I must admit I considered sleeping in it tonight). Does anyone ever comment on it?

Can you tell I'm pretty happy about my new hat!!!

I would love a Jayne hat! Winter gets pretty cold here, so, yu know. They should market them, I think. Weirder stuff has become popular novelties.
Had to include the note, huh? Cool. Was it packed in straw?

Your friend doesn't still have the pattern, does she? I'd love to make one for myself.

I made 3 Jayne hats so far. One I made for my girlfriend's son...it was his 8th birthday (and he LOVES Jayne). Another one I made for my sister at Christmas...and tucked the series DVDs inside. She said it was the best present she got :D. The last one I made was a little tiny hat that will be on next year's Christmas tree as a treasured ornament.

As soon as I get more orange yarn, I will make myself one.

Here I am in the hat I sent to baby sis....

I know CallMeSerenity makes them. I don't know how much she charges...but she's good. I know a lot of people here that have one of hers....she even makes them doll sized!

That is a very nice one, quite perfectly done. I'm allergic to wool, too. Guess if I want a Jayne hat I'd need one like yours.

PhoenixRose: you could also go with cotton,
but for some reason I found it easier to get ahold of fancy merino wool than 100% cotton yarn...

and of course there is always acrylic, but personally I didn't want that (but it would look perfectly good and be warm AND be non-alergic)

Thanks, I'll see if I can find her.

Lol, you know what just crossed my mind? I just KNOW at least ONE of you put on their Jayne hat while being butt naked (well, maybe socks) and ready to get it on, going "Time for some thrilling heroics!".
You know who you are, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. I will do the same and am in fact looking forward to it.

Agatsu, check eBay too. Several knitters regularly sell them there. The bidding usually ends up around $30 US. Some of them will do custom sizing, too.

Acrylic might be a good choice, too. Cotton yarn tends to itch a bit. Acrylic is smooth.
Of course this is all assuming I can find someone to knit one for me, or find someone selling acrylic Jayne hats... Also assuming I would have the money for it. I've spent too much on official Firefly stuff already. Would be very shiny, though.

My Jayne hat is a wool blend. My friend couldn't find the exact colors in 100% wool. (The pattern she used called for very specific things and my friend takes patterns VERY seriously.)

Here are a 2 links to patterns, kits, etc.

I can also knit them for "cashy money". $30 + $3.85 shipping. I knit on round looms and can make infant, kids, adult, and x-large sizes.

This is the first hat I did. I posted this some time ago in the BSR. I do one in wool now that looks much closer to the original, I'll try to see if I can post a pic of that later.
