...what is the final word? I'm planning on having a test website set up soon on a temporary server since, as far as I know, I’m the only one who’s volunteered on that particular mission. That said, it'd be nice to know where we stand on the slogan/title issue. I read that a domain has already been registered, so presumably that's final. So, is it Firefly Day or Serenity Day? As I mentioned earlier, SerenityDay.com is already taken, so I'd assumed we were going with the latter, but I still don't know for sure, although Max seemed to think Firefly Day was appropriate.

As for the slogan, this one's got my vote for now:

One day.
One mission.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we take back the sky.

In any case, I think this thread would be good for feature requests – I already saw the request for a discussion board. Anything else? Let’s have it! :)

I think we need a vote at this point, as far as the slogan goes. Everyone post their final picks in this thread and we'll keep a running tally here. Thanks.

Seba,

Kaele has posted on the original thread that firefly day and fireflyday.com are what we are going with.

And the sig that you like.. it wins too.

So contact Kaele, if you need any further info.

I hope now that this has been settled we can all get to work on this mission.

I want Mal to come back.

One day.
One mission.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave!

All right -- works for me. It was getting difficult to sort through all the responses, hence my confusion! haha Vote cancelled then.

Hopefully everyone will post feature suggestions though. I don't want to have made this thread for nothing. :P

Kaele just posted some info on the other thread, its over here:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=19833

We should remember this, Kaele stepped up to be our leader. If anyone has any new ideas or complaints, its nice for everyone else to know but it is important for Kaele to know to. And once Kaele makes a decision, we just need to follow it, thats the only way this will stay organized.

Another important thing is numbers. Keep spreading the word. They can't stop the signal.

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a rabble rouser, I just need to say this... once said, it'll be up to others. But it does need to be said now, because we're really starting to get this ball rolling.

Copied from a post I made in another thread:

I still don't get why so many people want to use "Firefly Day" as the name to mark the day we all push to buy "Serenity". Really, shouldn't we save "Firefly Day" for when we something that's really centered around Firefly?

I know a lot of fans had resistance to the word "Serenity" because it's a very misleading word to new folk. But our plans include flyers and banners and the images connected with "Serenity" would be our gorgeous cast, Sci-Fi/Western, and probably lots of pics of Serenity flying in space. So people would see the unsual combination and it would get their curiosity going.

People may not all agree that "Serenity" is a good name for the movie, promotion-wise, because the word does not say "Futuristic Adventure Story"... but like it or not, it IS the title of the movie and should be dominating our promotion. We can't dance around the subject that Serenity is a misleading name, we gotta keep putting it out there SO PEOPLE KNOW WHICH DVD TO BUY.

I know the votes are in, I don't really want to cause strife or nothin'. But if we don't want to come off sounding a bit amateurish in our promotion campaign, we really should name the day after the DVD we are pushing so hard to get known.

Otherwise, if the media does pick up on the story... I can tell you right now, THOSE writers are going to snicker a bit over how the name of the day and the DVD we're promoting don't match. We fans could end up looking like we didn't think the name of the day through well enough.

********************************

Calling it "Firefly Day" when the whole thing is about buying "Serenity" could end up causing us embarassment. We're going to be pouring all kinds of time and energy into this promotion... we may be shooting ourselves in the foot to have a contradictory name.

********************************

Okay, I've said it... but it was said with love...

I can't say I disagree on any particular point, 11th Hour. I would much prefer Serenity Day.

Since we also have serenityjune23rd.com as well, it seems right to me. But we have to get behind one idea and stick with it. And it'd be awful hard for Kaele to go against the voting.

If there was a way in the world to get folks to rally round Serenity Day, I'd sure get behind it.
Especially since it ties in with the screenings on that day.... of Serenity.

Can't seem to change folks minds though, no matter how hard we tried.

And then there's the feeling of honoring Max... he came up with fireflyday and posted it just this morning as the winning name.. how do you fight about such a thing?

My heart and mind tell me that for this to succeed we need it to be Serenity Day, but we seem to be unable to agree.

ETA: YAY! *Goes off to vote for Serenity Day!*

I like Firefly Day. People unaware of our cause would then ask, why Firefly Day if you buy Serenity?
We could then respond, "it is the movie based on our beloved, canceled show and we are trying to show the big companies that there is a market for this. Perhaps then we could get our show back, and more movies."

My votes for FIREFLY DAY

oh yeah, do we just go out and buy serenity anywhere? i got lost with the whole amazon issue. Also, if you have extra cash or livestock, or yosaffbridge, you could trade them in for a Firefly dvd set also. Maybe as a gift. Since we're on the mass buying of serenity anyway.

Universal still holds the movie rights.

Universal owns the Sci-Fi Channel - a way to show Firefly/Serenity on TV.

We NEED Universal on our side.

We have to step beyond emotional reasons for picking a name. Universal is looking at this from a business perspective, we need to do that too.

Universal would feel a whole lot better about our campaign if it was called "Serenity Day".

To call it "Firefly Day" is disrespectful to the studio that had faith in Joss and spent MILLIONS of dollars to produce the movie Serenity.

That website url will not be wasted! This June 23rd campaign won't be the last time the fans need to do a big, splashy promotion. Use that website for when we do a Firefly focused endeavor!

Folks who want "Firefly Day" seem to be choosing it more sentimentally and emotionally, the reasons they give don't hold water from a marketing point of view... just too convoluted.

We really need this to be about Serenity and to name it that. Universal is the one we really want to pay attention, they hold the contracts for Serenity AND they own a TV channel... so we need to name the day after the movie they produced and the DVDs they are selling... calling it "Firefly Day" would be disrespectful.
