This one's more for the Whedonites:

Okay, we have a Best of Buffy list going here, but what would you say are Mutant Enemy's finest televised hours so far?

You have 144 Buffy episodes, 96 Angel eps (so far), and 15 productions of Firefly to choose from.

That's 255 hours of finely crafted TV from which to choose your, I don't know... how about a Top Ten list?

Get crackin'!

mattro

PS: back soon with my list... but what is yours?

I gotta go with episode #42 from the third season of Firefly. Awesome stuff. Especially that bit with River saving Jayne from the Reavers.

I love #43 (part two of that three-episode arc of 42, 43 and 44), where everything is shot from outside Serenity so everything is silent and we can't hear the conversations inside the ship. Wacky fun!

Yeah, but you gotta admit that you liked the episode #20 where Jubal Early joins the crew, and River helps him remember he's an altered genius like her.

Yes that was a good one but nothing beats episode 37, the second season finale.

You gotta love the way all the Mal stuff was handled it really gives you such an idea of exactly who the guy is, even though what he did at the end was awful you just completely understand why he had to do it.

Sorry about derailing your thread, I haven't seen enough Buffy and Angel to give a really well informed opinion, so I'll shorten my list to five.

5. Angel - "I Will Remember You"
4. FF - "Ariel"
3. FF - "Serenity"
2. FF - "Objects in Space"
1. FF - "Out of Gas"

My two pennies worth:

Definitely Hush and Zeppo from Buffy. I can't think of any majorly stand-out episodes of Angel, but then I don't know it as well.

From Firefly:
Serenity 1&2
The one where the man is left alive by the reavers (I can never remember the title!)
Out of Gas
War Stories
Objects in Space

I can't put them in an actual order - that changes so much depending on my mood!

I love Angel but I can't think of that many stand-out episodes of the show either. Generally, it's just really good overall - and I suppose it's a lot more 'arcy' than Buffy ever was (well, it was until season five anyway).

But my faves are:

In The Dark
Eternity
Five By Five/Sanctuary
Billy
Birthday
Sleep Tight

Fave Buffys:

The Zeppo
Hush
Welcome To The Hellmouth/The Harvest
School Hard
Halloween
Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered
Homecoming
Band Candy
Lovers' Walk
The Wish
Earshot
Once More, With Feeling

Fave Fireflys:

Shindig
Jaynestown
Out Of Gas
War Stories
Serenity
Our Mrs Reynolds

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

Don't squat with your spurs on.

42 is always a safe answer in the Science Fiction universe. Or should say is the answer, now what was the question?

OKKAY

I'm a huge fan of Buffy and Angel, but I still think almost every episode of Firefly would come out ahead of any Buffy or Angel episode.
It may just be because each individual episode of Firefly gains extra significance due to the limited number we have, though.
In my opinion, War Stories is the best episode of television I've ever seen. I've watched that episode too many times to count.
"No power in the 'verse can stop me." My favorite line/scene ever. (The time when River says it)

Best Buffy/Angel episode would have to be Once More With Feeling.

This is ridiculously difficult and pointless to put in an *order*, but I did it anyway...

1. BTVS - Restless
2. BTVS - The Body
3. BTVS - Hush
4. BTVS - Once More, With Feeling
5. BTVS - The Gift
6. Firefly - Out of Gas
7. Firefly - Serenity
8. Angel - Orpheus
9. Firefly - Objects in Space
10. Angel - Sanctuary/Five by Five

The finest *moment* is the end of Five by Five on Angel.

"The finest *moment* is the end of Five by Five on Angel."

Couldn't agree more. That is the single finest moment in the entire history of television as far as I'm concerned :)

It's kind of hard to isolate 10 episodes. Some are technically better television than others but others have much more rewatchability (if that's a word..)

No order:

Angel - Five By Five/Sanctuary
Angel - Untouched
Angel - Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been?
Angel - Somnambulist
Buffy - Angel
Buffy - Passion
Buffy - I Only Have Eyes For You
Buffy - Becoming
Buffy - Earshot
Firefly - Out Of Gas

Notable mention: Firefly - The Train Job for the inclusion of the immortal line 'Time for some thrilling heroics!'

Yes! Thank you! I've been trying to make this point to so many people for ages but couldn't quite think of what words to use.

Rewatchability? I like it!

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

Glad I could help :)

Yeah there are some episodes like The Body (which I have only watched once) and Hush which are clearly some of the more technically excellent ones but then there are others like The Wish and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered which just never get tired.

The Body was an excellent episode, but it's so hard to watch. I prefer the fun episodes!
