RALEIGHBROWNCOAT

Hello everyone–

I’m a total newbie convert as of a few months ago and I have to say that I am _totally taken_ with Firefly/Serenity. I am not much of a TV person and even though as a young lad I stood in line with everyone else 10+ times to see the original Star Wars in 1977, as well as Empire and Jedi later on, I’m not much of a sci-fi person. I’ve never been to a sci-fi convention or anything like that.

But Firefly is different. WAY different. And I’m acting like a kid again –- it’s crazy! My wife thinks I’m nuts -- although she enjoyed watching the DVD’s with me, she has not reached my level of obsession. I mean, I even have the theme song as my cell phone ring tone! What the heck has happened to me?!? Whatever it is, I love it!

Anyway, just wanted to say “hi” to everyone and thanks to all you vets who helped make “Serenity” happen. I’ve already started working on converts and checking into a 6/23 charity screening in my area. To quote River, “it’s my turn.” :)

Take care, all.

Gorramit, I'm in the same boat you are. My wife also saw FF/Serenity, but doesn't share my enthusiasm! To her it's "Seen it, like it, move past it". I'm like "See it, liked it, Repeat!!!"

BTW, how did you get the theme song as a ring tone?

Welcome aboard! It's nice to see another browncoat so close to home (I'm from Durham). Make yourself at home. Help yourself to food packets of every color of the rainbow in the dining area. With any luck, we may be eating fresh veggies from the Abbey tonight, as well.

Followmal should be along shortly to issue you your virtual browncoat...

That reminds me, I bring you words of wisdom:
If your computer isn't broken don't get someone to fix it. No matter how damaged it is, no matter how much it looks like the military used it for weapons testing if it still works don't let repair guys go near it.

-

I sent off a perfectly good totally functioning computer for repairs for two reasons. One was that the keyboard looked like it had been hit by a bowling ball. (Don't ask, but in case you're, wondering it was not actually hit by a bowling ball.) The other reason was that it was free to have them repair it.

After an incredibly long wait for them to a day's worth of work they sent it back with a perfectly good keyboard, but now it crashes almost constantly. (Thank god for the almost.)

Fun, fun. I have to wait until I have some free time to bring it to people who can figure out exactly what the repair guys screwed up.

Quote:

it just.. well.. it just warms the cockels of my heart..

Thanks, heart warming is good and it's always nice to know when you, or I in this case, bring, or brought in this case, good into the world.

(say what ARE cockels anyway...)???

You know I was going to ask you what cockels were and then I read that.

Ni Hao!
Welcome from another relative new-comer to FFF.net!
I understand completely about your wife. Mine is a fan of Buffy/Angel, and I out-obsessed her within a month of seeing Serenity. Firefly followed, then plans to go to DragonCon as Mal, dressing her up as Kaylee and dragging as many of my friends along as the rest of the crew that I could find. My wife still finds it laughable that I went this far gone so quickly. I am not one to go "overboard" about anything, but I am happy to be a Browncoat holding the line with the rest of them.

Wow...sorry about that...just wanted to welcome you and let you know you weren't alone...

So, welcome.
You're not alone.

DONCOAT

A cockle is a kind of mollusk. Since you probably don't have any of those in your heart, it's probably the other meaning you want: a wrinkle or pucker.

You say you don't have any wrinkles or puckers in your heart either? Have you looked lately?

The dictionary actually treats "cockles of (one's) heart" as an idiom, meaning "innermost feelings".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't disagree on any particular point.
My X-ray vision only allows me to check my bones for fractures, i see right through my heart and therefore have no idea if it is wrinkled.
-
The question isn't what it (cockles of my heart) means, we know that, and now that we know what cockles means it's not about that either. The question is now how it came into being.
Of course that's only my question, I can't speak for others. I just know that there must be a reason.
Nothing happens without a reason, language evolves and the things without purpose die out via selection.
RBC, I can see you've been properly en-folded by some of the shiny crew here.
I intercepted a Shepherd from the Abbey and relieved him of his tomatoes, his new-picked rosemary, and a small box of strawberries.
These will be on the galley table come chow time.
Hey, Raleighbrowncoat, glad to meet ya!
FollowMal will be along presently to give you your shiny virtual Browncoat -- she's taking a bit of a snooze in the back; she's been on duty for 48 hours straight! Last I checked, she was having a lovely dream, what with the sweet smile on her face I'd be guessing she was dreaming of our dear Cappy!
Make yourself at home; I see that others have been offering various food and lots of drink.
Someone further down on the thread is making some "cockle soup" -- doesn't sound familiar, but I'm guessing it'll warm you some!
