One is for charity and another is for more movies. Describing an action for "more movies" as selfish is simply technical semantics. It's not personal. A "Serenity Day" and a "Can't Stop the Serenity" day just gives us two days instead of one.... how can that be bad? Bottom line -let people do what they want. Even if it's whine about other people. Worrying about a "fracture" in the Browncoats is silly IMO. If anyone is TRULY concerned about how we look to the world, best thing to do is refrain from bickering. maybe b!x is a pud maybe not - let's not fight about it! "Happy thoughts people"!

So we're currently on course for having 3 different factions of the fandom having 3 different events competing for different publicity for different reasons... This is *NOT* presenting the fandom in a good way to Universal. This is *NOT* going to be about a sequel, or charity, or anything at this rate. It's going to turn into bad press. Which is never what this is about. At the moment, I'd say there's actually little to no in fighting from the people in charge, but the events are just going to damage things for everybody. Which wasn't the idea anybody had. KB

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
Quote:Originally posted by Succatash: I vote keep it. Fuck the elite professional fans at Whedonesque. I love all the enthusiasm here at FFF and don't let anyone tell you it's bad for fandom. That's bullshit. Nobody owns June 23, nobody is a better fan than anyone else. Don't cave in to "save the fandom" crap, that is ridiculous. As if you suddenly have to follow a bunch of rules because you love the show and want to share it with others. The negative, condencending attitude in that Whedonesque thread really annoys me. It's THE site for Joss news though, and Joss frequently posts there himself, which is damn cool. But the people who post there aren't better fans than anyone else, and they act like they're in charge of all Joss fan projects or something. I say, don't give in to that shit.

Quote:Originally posted by 11thHour: An idea... What about if June 23rd became like a kind of dry run to test the effectiveness of the campaign? Keep campaigning to have folks buy DVDs on that date (Happy Birthday Joss!), afterward, we can see what the sales figures ended up being. Then the battle plan will become a lot clearer. Either the numbers will be really great (don't mean to be negative, but doubt that truly "awesome" numbers can happen in such a short amount of time), or the sales will be a lot less than all the great expectations were hoping for. But at least some "real world" results will be available. Then folks can get geared up for Serenity Day on September 30th. Either with confidence that we're already coming from a strong place, or the cold, hard realization that there's still a whole lotta promotin' to be done. If the "test run" thing sounds like a good idea, then it can be named something without the word "Serenity" in it. That will help delineate the DVD buying campaign from the Serenity Now/Equality Now charity screenings. Some peace can be achieved it the names of the different events really are "different". Sometimes an army has to have a few skirmishes to test itself, then they can come back for the big battle even stronger. 11th Hour P.S. For anyone who hasn't done guerilla marketing, let me just say it can be a tough battle. It's fun because you're doing it with your browncoat buddies, but going out there into the big world, and talkin' up folk who won't initially have interest in what you have to say, is a lot to overcome. There's a lot of things out there trying to grab peoples' attention... takes a lot of persistence and good energy to make a dent. You can get already existing fans excited about an idea, but getting other folk convinced is a different matter. It will take time to create the kind of effect fans want for Serenity Day.

I think this is an excellent proposal.

We help B!x promote screenings now and up to June 23rd and then we use that as the starting point to a summer long campaign of lots of stuff to lead up to the big thank you to Universal on the anniversary of the release of Serenity.. September 30th! 11th Hour has chimed in above saying it's a great idea, sure do wish it could be so, still hoping the leader of this gets behind it. ETA: Gossi thinks so too! See the post right above me! *good heavens.. gossi posted right above me..*

My wife asks the same question. Gossi runs SerenityMovie.org and I am an admin at Whedonesque. I have diddly squat influence over anyone and I do apologise if I upset anyone over what I said. I get frustrated about fan campaigns sometimes. I so badly want them to work but I get frustrated when they don't seem to let the fandom know what they want. I have a question. How many DVDs do people expect to sell on June 23rd or thereabouts before Universal notices?
