Hiya again, GI.
Comments on translation always interesting.
I see you and pirata were given your virtual browncoats on another thread.

Everyone else, come to the galley and fill your plates with our tasty food -- don't miss the strawberries -- and we'll see if FollowMal comes along to issue your coats.

Please take care to step *around* the ShipsCat.

another new zealander...

firefly didn't screen on tv here, as far as i know... i could be wrong, i could have just missed it entirely, i,ve probably just put my foot in it...

i am surprised that it didn't though if my assumptions are correct, as new zealand television is where cancelled tv programmes (both good and terrible) come to die...

but as we only have 4 free to air channels, and one of those is a music channel that only airs 12 hours of the day, there isn't much room for greatly underestimated whedonesque genious it would have to knock off desperate hosewives or something equally as insipid.

Gorramitalian and Pirata, can I ask you both a question about your beautiful language?
Is it a bad idea to learn Italian if you already know Spanish? I mean, do people get the two languages mixed up?
I'd really like to learn Italian, but I'm afraid of getting Spanish and Italian hopelessly tangled up. Should I just forget it and stick to Spanish, do you think?

I reckon it's always better to do then don't and I don't think you'd confuse the two languages and even if you'd interchange a few words now and then it wouldn't be a problem. Besides I guess it's going to be easier for you to learn italian if you already speak spanish: italian grammar is usually a bad beast for foreigners but it's quite similar to spanish so I think you'd be advantaged.
So my advice is: go for it. And if you need tips I'll be right here.
ciao

Anniston, Alabama. Not an entirely bad place to live. About halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham,AL, so civilization is not all that far away. Also means I am not that far away from DragonCon, either!

Holding until you get back, Captain.

Guess I also should have added where I have hailed from...
Born in Massachusetts, spent some time in Texas, Arizona, France (Paris, Sevres, and Maison-Alfort), and finally good old Alabama. My family spent a lot of time cavorting about Europe when we were there...'bout the only places we did not visit were behind the Iron Curtain (I only got back to the States in '83).

Holding until you get back, Captain.

In my limited experience, the more you learn about foreign languages, the easier it becomes to learn even more.
When you know just one language, your mind is sorta stuck to it, but after some experience with something else, the whole thing kinda opens.
I'd say go for it, you won't face terrible difficulties.

Of course the tragic part of the Italian language is the grammar... so very few italians get it correctly, not even TV/News speakers nail the sentences well...
I've been on a personal quest to restore grammatical soundness when possible, but I'm starting to give up myself :)
So don't bother too much...

I am in Foley, AL. A nice place in the middle of no and where. I was born in Eritrea when it was part of Etiopia. Lived in Panama, WVa, Athens Greece, Naples, Italy, Reston, Va various places on the eastern seaboard and lovely Ol England.

I have been sending emails and letters to all my friends in all my old places of residence to try and recruit them.

All I need now is my very own brown coat. Sniff Sniff

Suzieblue,
Glad I didn't assume you were one of our many Ozcoats. Pretty sure I've seen postings here from Tasmania as well. Anyone here from Antarctica?
Suzie, have you been overrun with tourists since Lord of the Rings hit the big screen?

===============================
To all the recent exotic and homegrown arrivals I extend our welcome and an invitation to the usual food-a-rama. Just for now we are adding hash brown potatoes, scrambled eggs and sausage. Betcha can't tell it from protein paste!

I think Foley, AL has the distinction of podunk on the corner of No and Where. Right by the raggedy edge.

I haven't rad all the posts. Did someone tell you how to post your own thread?

One summer.
One mission.
One army of Browncoats.

And a bunch of Rings that make Shiny people do silly things!

Starting June 23rd, we aim to misbehave!

Cristelle, I was taken into a Zurich molkerei as a tourist -- a hungry one -- and had never seen so many kinds of cheese in one place in my life. With and without holes. I wanted some of ALL of it, but that was clearly impossible.

The tour would not allow me to stay behind and take up residence under the counter so that I could be there long enough to try everything.

I can still smell it in my mind.

Yum!
