What's going on with the sales?

I'm just curious if there are any theories here. We're the #1 DVD on Buy.com ( http://www.buy.com/retail/topsellers.asp?loc=15318 ) and #8 on Amazon. This not being the television subcatagory, but all DVDs. This is with litereally nothing official (( short of the announcement of the Firefly visual companions )) going on right now in FF land.

So, what's going on? Word of mouth? Or are more and more people finally renting Serenity and going ahead and buying the series...

...not that I'm complaining, of course. :)

i have gotten 5 people to buy copies of serenity/firefly just from them seeing my obsession, i mean love of Firefly/serenity. I think we are just getting started

The trailers for Serenity did a lot of good. A lot of people (myself included) saw the trailers and thought, hey this looks really funny (you want to run this ship? Yeah! Well...ya can't!).

So they went to see it, loved it, bought the series.

I can't help but think that the fact a DVD set released 2 1/2 years of a short-lived cancelled TV series is doing so well has _got_ to mean something. I have no historical data, but has there been any other DVD set that has done so well for so long?

It might have something to do with the release of the HD-DVD, I mean it must have boosted awareness for the dvd in general by being Universals first HD-DVD release.
