I work at a Wal-Mart in Topeka, Kansas (no farm jokes, please). The other day I noticed that there's a display for several two-pack DVDs.

One of the ones featured is Serenity paired The Chronicles of Riddick. Now personally, I thought that movie was a turd (not Serenity, the other one), but, hey, they're getting the BDM out there, and I applaud them for it.

I noticed the two-pack at a store yesterday, so I checked a bunch of stores today.

The Serenity/Chronicles of Riddick two-packs are also at Best Buy (They have a special two-pack area of the store) and FYE stores.

1 Wal-Mart had a Big box in the front of the store with all the two-packs of lots of Universal movies. Sides of the display were blocked by other boxes. I had to move a box a little, so I could move some of the Serenity two-packs on the side to the front area to fill up the space that wasn't as full anymore because people had bought Serenity.

1 Wal-Mart put the two-packs on shelves and Serenity had it's own designated area.

1 Wal-Mart had the Big Box of two-packs in the back of the Media Section way out of the way. So I took two of the Serenity and put them in an empty rack near the Full-Screen Serenity that they had left (All the widescreen were gone) . I also stuck a Serenity on the top of the box, so people might notice.

1 Wal-Mart Big Box of two-packs in a hallway in front of the Media Section.

If you want, keep an eye on your Box display and make sure the Serenity ones don't get lost behind Doom or something else.

Oh, I forgot to mention before, these 2-packs cost a mesely (I didn't spell that right, did I?) $14.84 at Wal-Mart. That's pretty good.

Too bad it's packaged with "Riddick."

Very reasonable price, considering that Wal-Mart must be actually giving you fi' dolla to take the Riddick one away.

For my sins, I do have it, and while Pitch Black is excellent, I've not managed to persevere with this one. I gave up in what might be the early stages of what might turn out to be some sort of invasion with a splitting headache.

Bloody flashing lights... Give it a bleeding rest, willya?

That was the original two-pack that was in Wal-mart stores and elsewhere when the Serenity DVD was released. This is the second two-pack Serenity/Chronicles of Riddick.

Browncoats started seeing this two-pack a while ago on the internet for sale and it was on Wal-mart's website too. With a release date in April 2006.

So I couldn't figure out why there was going to be a second two-pack. But if you go into Wal-Mart, you will see why. Universal has a box of two-packs. 10 or so different two-packs movies. Doom and something else and Serenity/COR. If you look around, you will also see a 20th Century Fox box of two-packs not side-by-side like the Universal ones.

This two-pack release stuff might happen every year. But I never paid as much attention to DVD's before Serenity.

And I am not going to neaten-up 20th Century Fox's box.

I bet Walmart knows about Serenity Day and our plans for buying up the BDM. So they thought they would sell another one with it

So when I was at Wal-mart today...I had to go
by and see if the Universal two-pack display box was looking okay. There must be another Browncoat in my area because someone snuck one over to the New Release display. It was lying flat on the bottom of the rack...not in another movie's labeled space. Hadn't thought of that.

Hmmm. You know the top of these two-pack boxes just need a Serenity/COR standing up against the back board. Last time, I just put one on top of the box flat. So I stood Serenity/COR and two other movie two-packs up against the backboard.

I also moved the two-packs so the higher shelves were more full and you could see that the second shelf of the same movies had sold some. Instead of it just looking like shelves of the same movie were full and none had sold.

If we have to be with a Riddick movie why couldn't it be Pitch Black?

Still, sales are good, and if this can cause those we might sail again, so it's good.

Ugh, I HATED Hulk!

Anyway, that's interesting 'cause the only 2-pack I've seen with Serenity was with Doom.

OKAY! That shows BIG loyalty to the 'verse! I give all credit to you! Having to be seen in public with the Hulk JUST to get Serenity. I bow and wave to you! I am not worthy!

Why all the Hulk bashing, Hulk is a good movie. I had a few issues with it like when he fights his dad at the end but I loved the style Ang lee directed it in, the way he used all the comic style boxes to convey lots of information at once. Hulk fighting the dogs was cool and Hulk Vs the army was perfection. Hulk jumping through the desert and enjoying a few moments of peace before being attacked again was also right from the comics. If only his dad had become Maestro the film would have been perfect. You folks also need to understand hulk is not a super hero, he is not superman or spider-man. Hulk is a tragic figure like the wolfman or jeykl & Hyde. A hulk movie should not be a feel good movie.

I am woefully ignorant of the magic of marketing, so maybe someone with more knowledge of retail or DVD selling could fill me in:

Obviously, it's a good thing that the movie is being sold. But is there any significance in Serenity being put in a double-pack? Is it a good thing that they're pushing more units, or a bad thing that it's been marked down along with another (much, much weaker) film? Or does it just not matter?

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.
