Hey guys! Been a "Firefly" fan since the beginning and have been an observer to this awesome forum for just as long. I hadn't read any of the script spoilers to the unaired episodes, so forgive me for treading on familiar territory.

I got the DVD set and the first thing I watched were the unaired episodes, then the extras. I thoroughly enjoyed all three and was especially moved by the final scene of "The Message" and Inara's breakdown in "Heart Of Gold". My next step is to soak in the commentary tracks, and then convert my friends who still haven't seen the show, but have heard me rave about it since day one.

All I can say is that my sadness regarding the cancellation has been renewed, but simultaneously a hope that Universal really works with Joss and we see some real progress with the film. I ordered Philip Gaines' "Firefly" analysis DVD that I read about on this forum. He says he's gotten about 450 orders and I'm very excited to see it.

In closing, let me say Fox did a bang up job with the DVD set. I really enjoyed the slim pack cases and wonder if the industry will start going with those (they're REAL space savers). It doesn't quite make up for cancelling the series, but its a solid start. To paraphase Joss from the documentary......I don't think its over as there are definitely more stories to tell.

Does anyone know when it will be available on Region 2? There are a few fireflyfans in the UK and Europe as well

I guess Fox may be waiting to see how sales are for Region 1. Or maybe they're going over the ratings "Firefly" has gotten on the Sci Fi Channel UK. But with DVD, I figure its only just a matter of time.

Believe me, I know what its like to wait for a release. A while back, the UK got the show "Farscape" long before the United States. And Australia got "Buffy" boxsets way ahead as well.

An expensive route you may consider is purchasing an all region DVD player and just importing a Region 1 set. I actually did that so I could get watch later seasons of Farscape with their exclusive European premiums.

Expensive? Naar, you could get a £50 ($75) DVD player from W H Smiths (they're selling a dinky little machine from Cyberhome at the moment) and that comes with idiot-proof instructions on how to make it region free so you can play US DVDs - I have a couple of those players and they are small, shiny and sweeet.

Then go to www.playusa.com and order the US DVD set - mine arrived this very morning, sit back and enjoy. Expensive? Nope...

Awesome! Well, then, I stand corrected! Grab a cheap all region player and "Firefly" for Christmas, and whammo.

The only unaired episode I've watched so far is 'Trash'. I laughed my ass off. Easily the funniest scene in the entire series. Nathan rules.

The one thing I wish they had put in were the intro's before the intros. If you remember there was a very short intro with voice over at the very very very beginning of the shows. It started with Book doing the voice over then went to Mal. Was hopeing they'd do everyone but it didn't last long enough. I miss those intros.

That's a little disappointing, it was one of the things I liked about the show, even to the point where I was similarly disappointed when they changed it from book to mal. book's was just so poetic. but i also like the idea of all the characters eventually having a shot at it, now that it's been mentioned.

But, I guess it counts as the "previously on" preamble. I know the 99-episode montage preamble for Buffy's 'the gift' didnt make it onto the region one dvds either.

really, someone at fox dvd should do some sort focus group about what people want on dvd sets.

Yeah, I liked the Prologues too. I think that was the only place they said when the show took place(2517 AD), too. I also like the "Previously" segments.

Other than that, the only thing I know specifically that was changed fot the DVD was the scene in "Objects in Space."

From the CFQ Interview:

Quote:

“Heart of Gold” is one of the unaired episodes and it had one of the most important moments, which is

Select to view spoiler:

Inara telling Mal she’s leaving the ship

. Which we referenced in “Objects in Space,” and then had to reshoot the scene because we weren’t going to air “Heart of Gold” before “Objects in Space.” So we had a little scene between Mal and Inara which we had to do a reshoot in which they didn’t reference that. Now with the DVD, where they’re in the correct order, we put it back in and it does.

Personally, I think the aired version should be the final version, and so Joss should've included the reference on the aired version, or used the aired version for the DVD. However, he made this decision, and no one can really claim that the sired version is superior to the DVD version, although they really aren't that different.

Other that that, I don't know specifically of any cut scenes, but it does bother me that they did do the above. It would also be nice if they had put "Shindig" and "Safe" in the right order on the DVD.

Mine just showed up from Amazon on my doorstep today.

What's with using four super-thin DVD cases instead of the traditional fold-out multi-pack? I've never personally seen them used outside of a magazine "freebie" pack-in.

I found the production quality on the packaging a little lacking... plain and unimaginative to put it simply. Typefaces and text layouts are are uninspired. For some reason, the DVD case covers only showcase four of the crew members. The discs all have the same image silkscreened on them, and the same goes for the image seen inside the case. And (not that I can tell, since I don't have a widescreen television yet ) is the presentation anamorphic?

So, should I *not* complain about the packaging for a series that barely made it to DVD? ;)
