The two events can cross promote eachother. From a marketing point of view, it's really a win/win scenario for both. Kinda like The SCI-FI Network's Summer of SCI-FI.

As I've told Tash, I don't have much time this Summer because I'm building my house, but I'm willing to do whatever I can to help.

And if BOTH sides are willing to work together, I have some Serenity promotional stuff I can donate to both events for contests and things of that nature.

Let me know what you all think.

I think that's a great idea and want to especially say thx for posting your thoughts, as I think your input will help greatly to get us past this slightly dysfunctional hiccup. The vote - last time I looked - was still pretty close, at least I think it's close enough that no one could say there's a clear mandate. As others have mentioned, since the June23rd date was originally posted and many have already acted on that date, at least this way EVERYONE can be accommodated. Like you said: win/win.

If the results of the current online vote on serenityday .org show that September 30th wins by a small margin; then perhaps it would still be best to make the date June 23rd because of work that has already been done in connection with that date.

I said something similar to this earlier and fully agree with it. This is the route we should take, and that means sticking with June 23rd as a start off date.

From what I've observed, the majority of people really like the Serenity Summer campaign too because an extended promotional period will build momentum, and give fans many actitivies in which to participate. A great way to keep the fandom invigorated, and to recruit new fans.

The bookend dates work well because of the "Joss Birthday/Serenity Premiere" connection, and June 23rd and September 30th almost exactly mark the actual beginning and ending dates of Summer itself... which is a nice extra.

As to the heated debates over the dates themselves, the problem stemmed from which of those dates to designate specifically as "Serenity Day". Also, there still seems to be some confusion among the fans as to whether Serenity Day DVD sales numbers are meant to:

• Prove to Universal that there is a large enough audience to warrant Serenity sequels (which is the mission statement on the serenityday website); or

• Create a healthy sales spike for Universal as a show of support and celebration of Serenity, without directly bringing in the subject of sequels.

Often it seems that the more heated exchanges on the board have happened because each of the above goals has a different degree of expectations, and perhaps a difference in promotional intensity... plus the timetable factor. So the people who want to generate large numbers as a demonstration of strength to Universal, end up arguing with the fans who don't know why everyone is making a fuss over going out and buying a few DVDs.

Actually, it's been like herding cats! Whichever form the serenityday campaign takes, it does appear that the majority of fans are looking forward to promoting FF/S and purchasing DVDs, which is very good thing indeed.

Sounds great to me. I've always stated this was an excellent idea.

Yes, guys I do still read what's going on here. I just don't have a whole lot of time to post lately. (My RL stuff is my business and I would never wish any of what's happening on anyone.) Just don't forget that nifty PM thing or e-mail if there's some post or detail you think I'm missing.

Good luck on your new job, 11thHour! Here's hoping it always goes smooth. :)

Hi there!
Just a quick word while I'm away for the weekend... I'm soooo, like peacful and relaxed and hwai, and I'm sorry for all the hwai on here and the way I have expressed my darkest feelings. It's been a really long week.
Sorry Kaele, I sorta projected it on you, I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me.
Whatever is gonna be decided, I'll be there and kick ass to the best of my possibilities.
And if the vote stays as close as it is right now, I won't be anal, but admit that people apparently like both dates, and go with that, even if September is slightly ahead. But that's just me.

So... Peace, Browncoats!

Let's be united again.
