The picnic shindig is May 6th at 10 AM in Long Beach. Further details are in the copied post below. Any questions please post here or the Yahoo group.

Copied from the SoCal Yahoo group:

Okay, folks. Here are the final details.

The Long Beach Shindig will be held at Heartwell Park (directions below). I decided to move to a park that did not have a baseball field so as to give us more space. This does mean, unfortunately, less picnic tables, so please bring blankets to stretch out on or folding chairs to sit on. If you would like to set up a sun shade, you can do that, too. I'm certainly going to.

The way Long Beach works, there is no system for "reserving" the parks. It's basically a first-to-stake-their-claim situation. So I will be at the park no later than 8:30 AM, and anyone else who is an early enough bird to join me and keep me company would be greatly appreciated. The picnic itself will start at 10:00 AM and go to anytime between 3:30 and 6:00 depending on how much fun we're having.

At around noon, we will be having a meal. I will bring some of the main dishes, but any contributed dishes or desserts would be appreciated.

There will be lots of games for the small fries, as well as outdoor activities for the big kids ;) We will horseshoes, frisbees, badminton, bocci, kites to fly and if we can get them organized, we will wrap a maypole and beat drums in celebration of spring.

Also, if we can organize it, we will play "Capture the Flag" as Alliance vs. Browncoats. We'll pick a location to be Serenity Valley and go from there.

When we are all tired out and cleaned up, there is every possible kind of dining about two miles further down the road at the Lakewood Mall. We can have dinner out or we can convene at someone's house for a crash-and-watch session until the wee hours. I volunteer my house, but it is sort of... hm... what's the word... diminutive. So anyone who has a more comfortable site for the traditional watching-of-Firefly episodes in the Long Beach area is welcome to volunteer.

Questions? Comments? Complaints? Random spewings of philosophy?

DIRECTIONS TO PARK

Coming from North of Long Beach:
Take the 405 South to the exit for Lakewood Blvd. North. Turn onto Lakewood Blvd North. Turn right on Carson Street. Turn Right on Clark Street. You will see a couple of little white buildings with trees on them. Park in this general vicinity and come slightly further into the park. I will put up a sunshade and a brown banner that says something thrilling like "BROWNCOATS UNITE".

Coming from South of Long Beach.

Find your way to the 405 North. Take the exit for Bellflower Blvd. Turn right onto Bellflower blvd. Turn left onto Carson Street. You will pass almost the entire park. Turn left onto Clark street and find a parking space. Look for the big brown banner with white lettering that says something about Browncoats.

Thanks!
James

How far is far away? NoCal? We have shindigs all over SoCal if you are ever in the area. Recently we've been having a shindig or small gathering almost every weekend!

It' took from about 11am till 2am to get from Palm Springs to Redding this weekend. It was actually kind of fun because of my travel buddy but still sooooo very very long to be in a car.

Hmmm. Well, I'm in Riverside, which is about 60 miles from Palm Springs. If you are interested in carpooling, I still have 2 seats left in my car right now. It would cut your driving time down to maybe an hour. Of course there would be the additional hour as a passenger.

If so, send me an email danregal_ff at yahoo dot com

If not, maybe you can make it to something we plan in the IE. We have a small group if you want to join and keep an eye on gatherings a little closer to you.

Don't worry, we're all over that. And the LA one needs to be fixed, it's Laemmle's, not Maemmle's. Maybe we should email bix?

We actually will be selling tickets (hopefully) next week. No longer than 2 weeks from now.

It's going to be a great day! And the shindig's going to be pretty damn cool too!

Thanks
