Over how long a span of time does Firefly take place?

Yet another question, folks. From the salvage job at the beginning of "Serenity", to the last events in the last episode, how many months (or whatever) did the Serenity crew spend (in their universe, not ours)? I hope I'm making sense here... it's not my food that's problematic, it's my brain! I just can't think of a more elegant way to put this. But seriously, I need this info. Does anybody know, or can a fan make up his/her own theories/timeline for the calendar of Serenity?

I'd guesstimate around eight months to a year or so.

Based almost solely on the fact that in The Train Job Inara states that she's been on Serenity for eight months and by Objects in Space she tells Early it's been a year.

I tend to say give or take four months between those episodes just because you don't know that she was being particularly exact.

Then in Trash Mal says that it's been about six months since he ran into Saffron In Our Mrs. Reynolds.

Then you have to account for the fact that in Serenity Kaylee had a gut wound and by the Train Job she's fine and dandy. You must also account for the fact that Mal was really torn up by Niska and by Heart of Gold he too is fine and dandy. And finally, also for the fact that Simon was shot in OiS and by Trash (which by production order takes place after OiS) he too is in the camp of the no longer injured.
