Until watching the DVD extras, I didn't know that Rebecca Gayheart was slated to play Inara originally...kind of hard to think of her in that role, but maybe I'm just too used to Morena:

Good. Thanks for the update.

I love Rebecca, and I can see the seductiveness in her eyes that might have come from companion training. I'd like to see her as a companion in the upcoming movie.

As a companion, yes. As Inara, I think Morena Baccarin nailed the part. Maybe R.G. would have been good, but I just cannot imagine her as Inara now.

I think Morena's great in the role. I can't really imagine Rebecca Gayheart playing Inara.

But then I'm not a huge RG fan - the only thing I've liked her in is Dead Like Me.

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

Rebecca Gayheart is a lightweight. She completely lacks the world-weary/old soul quality that Morena brings to Inara. Had Rebecca stuck around, she would have stood out as the only actress still "finding her character's legs" (so-to-speak) while the rest of the cast was off and running (and gelling with one another).

RG was the weakest link. Joss picked up on this early in the process and thank goodness! Morena IS Inara. Joss has great istincts! Fortune was smiling down on Firefly when he discovered Morena.

I for one could never imagine anyone else in the role of Inara. The combination of sensuality, strength, resolve, caring, and playfulness could not have been pulled off as well by another actress.

Also... I can kill you with my brain...
