As you may have seen elsewhere, I'm looking to put together a DVD of all the video footage not available from any retail source. (So, no, I'm not going to put extras from different countries DVDs on it, you could order them online if you wanted). Also certain conventions forbid their talks being redistributed and I think we should respect that. The San Diego ComicCon one should be all right though as that was hosted here for a long long time.

This is a list of everything I currently have:

All the mov files from the original Fox Website (some are very poor quality files so we'll have to see about those)
The full length gag reel (VHS quality)
The ComicCon Footage
The three featurettes that were on the sampler DVD that came with BSG (no longer available AFAIK so therefore valid)
Serenity winning Film of the Year on Film 2005
The trailers
Adam Baldwin on Whatever (a kids show) promoting Serenity
An interview with Summer Glau on the red carpet
The River Tam Sessions (I See You!)

Right, that's my lot. If anyone has any suitable material that they know of, even if they don't have it, please post here. If you've done a Firefly/Serenity music video and would like it to be on the disc, please please please say so here; there have been some great ones but I'm not going to put things up with the maker's permission.

I'll collate for a month or so then put the disc together, hopefully in time for the Summer of Serenity kickoff. I'll make a reasonably large number of copies then distribute them to strategic points to hopefully allow many more to get hold of the disc - Browncoats with DVD burners, I'm going to be relying on you! This disc is for the fans, not to be sold on eBay, so let me know what we want on it.

Over to you guys!

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

Well there was a Serenity disc that was given away with a dvd mag (might have been DVD monthly, but I'd have to check to make sure)
Most of it was the usual promo featurettes that were available on the Official Site, and also some clips and trailers. But interestingly it had some B-Roll footage which I didn't see anywhere else.

I've got the disc (though for some reason, it freezes at the end of the B Roll - dont know if its a faulty disc I've got, or if all the discs are the same - or maybe just my player)
But that could be put on as an interesting extra... if it's legal that is

How about the unaired original cut of Serenity (the pilot)?

There are a lot of different trailers on Youtube that you could include. Also, I had seen a video item put together that involved Joss talking of the tv series Firefly that was then followed up with Serenity. It was probably about 3 minutes long, and was shown at the theaters in the pre-show commercials and such.

Also, there was an episode of "Sci Fi Inside" on the behind the scenes of Serenity. I recorded it via my Media Center-edition computer, which resulted in a 1.3 GB file with a .dvr-ms extension that plays in Windows Media. (Gave you the specifics in case there is some way I can convert it and get it to you.)

You might want to check and see what Jeremy and Brian are putting on their extra discs. www.donetheimpossible.com. They've done a fan "celebration" of Firefly and have lots of extras, including Con panels. Duplication of effort seems wasteful but if you've got stuff they ain't got, then SHINY!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

This is a very shiny idea, & will make a great guerilla marketing tool for the Serenity Summer Campaign.

I would love to get my hands on one to burn copies for Dragon Con & other venues.

That DVD (which looks so seriously excellent) looks likely to have mostly either self-produced material or fan based stuff. I'm not sure which bits would be crossed over other than fanvideos.

Their DVD is being sold, with a proportion going to Equality Now, a very worthy cause. This one is just going to be copied and redistributed freely. There should be no material on it that is currently being sold or used to promote someone's website (so that interview clip online wouldn't be acceptable, sorry).

I think we'll probably run out of space before we run out of material to put on it but we'll see. Would people want me to do editting on the various things like talks and interviews so they're Firefly/Serenity issues only or would you prefer them uncut (which might mean missing out on other clips)?

Ooo, I've also found a few more clips, with some very nice juicy stuff on them, will give more details when I've gotten them and will update the list at the top of the page.

The seller contacted me!
She put the DVD up for auction again just for me, and it should be here sometime next week, then I'll make a copy and send it to you, SimonWho, if you'd be so kind and trusting as to send me your home address.
The seller is very nice, btw... and I kinda feel like I'm taking advantage of her. She's gonna be sorta disappointed when she finds out what I did, after she was being this nice and all, too, and maybe rip my ear off at a convention, like someone did to Bauer.
Then again, $38 for a burned DVD of freely available material - that is only interesting for other Browncoats - is a bit of a rip-off. I'll gladly pay it, though.
Should I just tell her what we're gonna do (once I have the DVD) and we can give her Big Damn Credit for it if she thinks it's a good idea?

Either way, we should be set in about 2 weeks.

The mov files from the Fox website include all the interviews on set, right? I have those downloaded on one of my computers.

I was wondering if you had the screensaver fan-Luxlucre distributed for fans. (Sadly, he passed away a couple of years ago.) He also did up some cartoons based on Firefly as Southpark characters. I think I have copies of it all...

My favorite fan vid is the one Bonbari(?) did for Out of Gase to the song Hallelujah. I hope she'll let one of the fan DVD promoters use it. Shame to keep it from so many new Browncoats.

Right, time to catch up on what we have/want:

Have:

All the mov files from the original Fox Website (some are very poor quality files so we'll have to see about those)
The full length gag reel from Firefly (VHS quality)
The ComicCon Footage
The three featurettes that were on the sampler DVD that came with BSG (no longer available AFAIK so therefore valid)
Serenity winning Film of the Year on Film 2005
The trailers (as many as I can find)
Adam Baldwin on Whatever (a kids show) promoting Serenity
An interview with Summer Glau on the red carpet
The River Tam Sessions (I See You!)
B-Roll footage
Summer and Nathan on GMTV
Serenity on Ebert and Roeper (two thumbs up!)

Needy - I found a copy of that magazine (a nice write up they gave to Serenity too) and yeah, I've not seen that b-roll stuff anywhere before, nice spot! My copy didn't freeze at the end.

Re: the uncut version of the pilot - well, the only version available is in very poor quality and the major deleted scenes are on the TV DVD. Are there any other scenes that people would want from it?

SerenityValley: Alan Tudyk playing cards? Not seen that, would love it!

Fredgiblet: thanks for the offer, I'll be back to you when it's done!

Agatsu: As far as the seller goes, I'd find it hard to feel bad for someone who's just use freely available clips to sell for their own profit. It happens and there's a market for it but that is exactly what I hope to remove. I'm also considerably less sympathetic if she's reselling things like Starfury clips which Sean Harry does go out of his way to copyright. He sells DVDs of the guest talks which in turn allows him to do more with the conventions. Perhaps if you could find out if she actually does have any unique material not mentioned here, that way you could save yourself a bit of cash.

Seraphant:

I haven't got the Serenity Inside Look nor the fans singing happy birthday. I'm not going to put any convention vids on with the exception of the ComicCon one because that has been freely available here for about two years. I'd love to include more music videos but I'm going to ask the makers of them if they allow it first. But I'd love to get a copy of those first two.

Keep the suggestions/offers coming, particularly if there are some great music vids that really have to go on (I really like the Learn to Fly, Time and Holding Out For A Hero).

How about the special intros to the TV series - I believe there are three all together? And although Fox didn't do much in the way of advertising the series - some of them are cool looking...

I've found that eBay auction listing and now I've read the full set here:

http://www.geocities.com/angelee_reiki/Serenity_Firefly_Full_Listing.p
df

I'm impressed and also relieved that she doesn't seem to be using any copyrighted material (the Starfury stuff is just the trailer for the convention).

To be honest, I would feel bad about just lifting all the stuff from that DVD so let's find it through other sources. I really don't think making money from fans and material that isn't yours is the nicest of things but then again I don't know her story - she may really really need to do this.

So the search continues, plus I just found on my hard drive something rather cool: the talk with the cast + Joss and Chris Buchanan (who never gets enough credit and really deserves it) after the Edinburgh festival premiere and the talk Joss gave the following day.

These hold special meaning to me as I saw them live. Nathan's impersonation of Simon is fantastic: "Riiiiver? I'm sorrrry." We get to see Chiwetel speak about Serenity, something of a rarity, plus see exactly where that bit of trivia on the IMDB originated.

Right, many thanks for offers of blank DVDs but what would be most helpful rather than you sending DVDs across the world to me is if you receive a copy of the disc from me then send copies of it out to those closer to you.

I'm going to prepare probably 30-40 copies and send them out globally. I'll also put a copy of the iso up on filesharing boards and also some newsgroup binaries.

Then if the first 40 recipients make say 10 copies each and post them, that will be 440 physical copies out there already, and those new 400 can spread outwards as best they can.

So for the first wave, can those who have a DVD burner please make themselves known - you can send a message to simonwho@hotmail.co.uk if you prefer to keep off the boards - and I'll have you first in line for the DVDs when I make them (from the 16th onwards)

I'm also going to do a sample video with bits from the various features and put it up on YouTube. I love YouTube, so fabulous.
