Page C7 of today's New York Times (sorry, can't find this on-line, just in hard copy) has listing of most popular "season sets" of TV series for 2006, through April 23. Firefly is 5th. The complete top 10 list is:
1. Grey's Anatomy, Season 1
2. Family Guy, volume 3
3. South Park, Season 7
4. Chappelle's Show, Season 2
5. Firefly, complete series
6. 24, Season 1
7. 24, Season 4
8. Lost, Season 1
9. The Simpsons, Season 7
10. The Office, Season 1

The list has a brief note to it saying the DVD market share of television titles is growing relative to titles released in theatres. The share of DVD sales that is TV shows is now 14.6%. This share increased 5% from 2003 to 2005.

5. Firefly, complete series

It's great to see firefly still in the top 10 as far as sales.
Hope TV exec's are paying attention.
Really would like to see the series continue sometime in the near future.

Beating the Simpsons? Beating Lost??

These are huge tv shows with snotloads of publicity! If our shiny li'l firefly can top that, just from devotion from fans, and not from any over-hyped promotion or anything, then surely that means that they should bring it back.

I'm sorry, but to out sell something like the Simpsons is a pretty big deal, and frankly, they're a few engines short of a ship if they don't pick it up again.

I was out shopping over the weekend (Circuit City, Best Buy, Walmart, Target) and out of curiousity looked for the FF DVDs. Not one sotre had them in stock and when I asked a couple of them they said they couldn't keep them on the shelves. It made me smile.

I showed the pilot at one of our monthly film night, about six of my friends bought the box set the day after.

Round here in england, sales arn't doing too well, but im glad to hear that the US is selling out so fast. Surely SOMEONE has to take note?

Hmmm...whats the one thing that makes Firefly look so out of place? Its the only show not on the air right now, and all of the rest are current hits still on TV. Come on now. More than Lost....wow.

BLUEMOONSTUFF

Most of the other shows are in syndication so episodes are still seen without having to pony up any coin. Someone in their right mind should be takin' note though and toss FF out for syndication also. I know sci-fi runs it now and then but the non-cable folks would eat this up as a late night re-run.

I guess you would only get two weeks of shows though. Any one remember ABC back in the 70's would switch off each week between Columbo, McCloud, McMillan & Wife and there was one other I forget......

NBC. Hec Ramsey.

I used to watch those, too. And the Wednesday Mystery Movies.

Also, note the release date of each of these DVDs. I took the liberty of adding the month and year the DVD set was released. Not only is Firefly still in the top ten, but it was released a full two years before everything else there (except 24 Season 1, which is one of the most popular shows on TV right now). Not only that, but Firefly has been in the top 10 on Amazon pretty darn consistently. People(network execs) have to be noticing, but I don't understand why they won't do anything about it...

1. Grey's Anatomy, Season 1 (02/06)
2. Family Guy, volume 3 (11/05)
3. South Park, Season 7 (03/06)
4. Chappelle's Show, Season 2 (05/05)
5. Firefly, complete series (12/03)
6. 24, Season 1 (09/02)
7. 24, Season 4 (12/05)
8. Lost, Season 1 (09/05)
9. The Simpsons, Season 7 (12/05)
10. The Office, Season 1 (08/05)

There's a fair bit of money going into Firefly DVDs but I'm not sure it merits justifying making a series just for them: it would have to air on network TV.

And this is where things hit a brick wall: Joss won't work with Fox again. Well, would you work with someone who took your precious infant and then casually chucked it out of a twenty storey window while explaining to you how 'Fastlane' is where the network is heading.

I'm sure it hurt Joss enough having to make nice with Fox to get the rights to make Serenity elsewhere but to work with them on a day to day basis again?

So Fox will just sit there and earn dollar after dollar on these box sets and some exec will be promoting how he commissioned Firefly (skipping past how he screwed it over, naturally). And we have to sit here and sigh.

Hi all,

I don't post a lot...or much at all in fact, but I wanted to pass along something that I just remebered. At Dragon Con 2004 Nathan said when asked if there would ever be a firelfy show on tv again he said "When universal bought the rights to do Serenity, That new episodes of firefly could not be made for X amount of years." He nor any of the others on stage would even hint at what x was. That just hit me and I thought it might give you guys and gals a little more hope.
