DEERSWIPER

I have: a) 14 episodes of Firefly b) the DVD of Serenity. Which should I watch first?
Tell me, if you can, without giving spoilers, because I know NOTHING. As in, none of the characters names, and no plot. I was just told I would love this thing.

If this is an inappropriate board to post this on, sorry.

What happened? He see your face?

for one, welcome... secondly, this Sci-fi changed my opinion of not only sci-fi but entertainment period. the storyline rocks, the characters rock, and the music rocks

Watch the Episodes, in order, just as they come in the package.... then watch the movie, u lucky soul... enjoy.

then after that... u have the DVD extras and then fanfics, and then us... where u will surely come back and want more... lots more content. At that point we will direct you to the many links for virtual episodes, interviews, conventions, fanfics, etc.

FM, u got a BC lyin' 'round...

Here's another vote for Series (in the DVD order) and then the movie.

The problem w/ watching the movie first is that there is a lot of things in there that you just miss entirely or won't get b/c you haven't the proper background. If fact, there is at least two things that I can think off right off the bat (you'll know when you see them) that you'll be wondering why they were so significant if you didn't watch the series first.

Enjoy!

Yup, PdCharles, commin' right up!

Oh, Deerswiper, I envy you.... you are going to enjoy this so much. And you don't know it yet, but you are a Browncoat. When you finish.. you be sure and come right back here.

*hands Deerswiper a browncoat to wear*

Wrap up in this 'coat... you'll know why after the first ep.....

Then watch the episodes in order, then watch the movie. We affectionately call it the Big Damn Movie, you will know why the instant you get done watching all of these wonders. Then watch the eps with the commentary on, then watch the BDM again.

Then as PdCharles said.. come back here and we'll welcome you back home and you can join us while we wait for more good things to come. And we'll show you where all the most delightful things are on here!

So... have fun, and fall in love, cuz you will, I promise and then come back here and tell us what you thought!

I vote series first. May I also add that after watching the series, you may want to run to the local comic store and pick up Dark Horse's 3-issue Serenity miniseries. It gives info bridging the gap between the series and the movie.

definitely the se. Its pretty obvious but watch the episodes as if they are in columns not as if they were written left to right, i made that mistake but I don't think anyone else has done.

Deerswiper - welcome, and you've come to the right place. Thanks for taking time to post here. By now I suspect (hope) you've started watching the series, in order, and have been bitten by the space monkeys( reference to be made clear, in time. )

1. As has been mentioned.,if you've got the opportunity, watch the series first, in episode order from the DVD, then watch the movie.

2. Come here at any time you have a question or simply want to comment on what you've seen.

3. Repeat steps one and two several times as needed

(p.s. - Do you really swipe deers ? )

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Watch Firefly first. Trust me. The movie will be more enjoyable if you're already familiar with the backstory and characters.

watch the series first definitely, gives you a stronger connection with the characters so you'll get more out of the movie, plus the events in the movie take place after the events in the series, so the movie will make more sense.

I love unanimous answers to difficult questions.

No, I don't live in a screening city or swipe deer.

Welcome, Deerswiper! We're glad to have you aboard.

By now, you've probably made up your mind but let me just throw in one more vote for the series before the movie. I think it will make things much clearer.

Please post again and keep us updated on what you think of the episodes and the BDM!

Another vote for the series in DVD order and then the BDM. You will become addicted like all of us here.

After you watch the BDS and the BDM watch the episodes with the commentaries on. The commentaries are as good as the episodes. They give a lot fo background as to what was going on on the set, the interaction between the actors etc.

Welcome,I agree, watch the series in order as it appears on the dvd package, then watch the movie. Some of the things in the movie won't make a whole lot of sense otherwise.
Edit:Deerswiper, you got the correct board, so no worries!

No need for me to add to the unanimity.
Heh.
Sure envy you having so much Firefly still to watch. Most of the rest of us are wearing out our discs.

The coat looks great on you.

DEERSWIPER! This is an opportunity in deed. DO NOT WATCH THEM ALONE. Watch them with someone like yourself, who hasnt seen them yet. Or grab a couple people. Trust me, it will be much easier to convert all of you at the same time, because later you will get too excited about this show and not be able to share with some of your friends. They will brush it aside as a "stupid show" that you're into and give you looks....oh the looks ...just do it please.

Nope it's not an Inappropriate post :) However you have to watch them from the pilot. Firefly has a massive focus on continuity. For example the 8th episode is based on small things mentioned in the pilot. You cant watch 'Trash' before you have watched 'Our Mrs Reynolds' because you will just say 'who is she?'. Firefly is not like Star trek where you can watch 'Best of Both Worlds' and totally enjoy it and get it without having seen any other Next Gen episode. Firefly has a heavy character focus, unlike any other Sci-FI series. It puts you right in the middle of those characters and treats you like a crew member of Serenity. At the end of watching the series you will love Mal Reynolds like he is part of your own family. To get maximum enjoyment you must watch the series in order

COMBATNURSE

Very new to Firefly too. My sister made me watch the movie then the whole series on the weekend (not that I offered too much resistance!). I wish I hadn't seen the movie first due to the sudden but inevitable departure of the best character. It kinda put a downer on the whole series!
Have fun.
