Although I am a penniless student I am hoping to somehow scrape together the funds to go to the London, Heathrow convention this September to meet shiny, shiny Jewel, Sean, Morena and others. (Well, it is my birthday coming up, I shall just have to spread the word about what I really, really want!)

Anyone going or tempted to go? Here's the link:
http://www.starfury.co.uk/

What I was wondering was if anyone was brave enough to split the cost of a twin room for a couple of nights (it's a lot cheaper than going for two singles). Or, if you're feeling particularly naughty/ cheap we could stretch the rules, get one single and I would sleep on the floor! I've done it before!

I split the cost this way with a stranger the last convention I went to and we ended up being great friends!

Just a thought I'd send out there to see if there was any interest.

Psychopathic axe murderers need not apply!

You do get 3 days of fun-packed guest talks and sales and parties and stuff, but still it is expensive!! Room prices are about 59 pounds a night if you want to stay at the convention centre and party till the wee samll hours (but that comes down to 38 pounds or even 30 if you split it!)

No Alan yet but Starfury always have a great surprise guest (when I went to the Buffy con they sprung both Joss and Nicholas Brendan on us!) and I hear he had a blast at the last one so you could always keep your fingers crossed!

Oh my God that sounds great, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I'm really quite up for going to that, I'd love to meet some of the cast, especially Jewel (mmm) and that could count as my holiday this year.

I'll have to think bout it, and see if I can drag a friend or two along.

I wouldn't mind splitting a room (if I decide to go), as it would be nice to have someone to hang out with, but I am a chap, so can understand if you ain't comfortable with that.

But whatever we will all have to go for a Big Damn Drink (BDD), question is, can I find me a cool brown coat in time?

Oh and just read chapter 1 of your stargate crossover, fantastic work.

There are other cheaper hotels available if you want to cut down the price. But the 78 pounds is for three parties, a bunch of autographs, lots of talks and several surprises, plus you get to meet BDH's. And me.

I'm a little curious as to why you ruled out psychotic axe murderers. Does that mean well adjusted axe murderers are acceptable as roommates?

Ha! Yep, well adjusted witty axe murderers are welcome so long as they don't bring their work home with them!

I'd be happy to share a room with a bloke (hey, I'm not that shy! But I am that broke!) so long as I get to vet them online first to check that they're just weird enough!!

Will do, I'll try and be quick coming to a decision, probably go sounds like fun.

Yeah I've read up to chapter 4 now, and I'm quite hooked, so it might have to be chapter 5 now, though I'm really hoping to get some more scenes with the rest of the serenity crew, but since this is about River in the Stargate universe I doubt that'll happen until the end.
I must say it's interesting to see the contrast between the complex firefly characters and the obviously 'purely good and wholesome' characters from Stargate, again your very good at keeping the characters and their speech true to the character.

So who else is going to Serenity 3, I fail to believe there are only 3 or 4 browncoats going to it on this site. Are we brits not very big on Firefly/Serenity or something?

I've been to S2 last year. I'm going to S3 (obviously ) and Dragon*Con this year.

As for the rest, it's a little outside my power, well it is since the restraining orders.

There's a few brits going from here that haven't posted and a couple of Americans to.

Hey Emma!

I am so looking forward to it. It'll be my first con, so very exciting. I too am a peniless student and would be well up for the idea of sharing a room.

How about we meet up though? There's a firefly shindig gathering going on in London on June 10th. See the link:
http://forum.cantstopthesignal.co.uk/showthread.php?p=47308#post47308

I'm sure you'd meet loads of people going to S3 and I'll be there if you wanna chat about room sharing. Always nice to do these things face to face - thus limiting axe murdering potential (one hopes).

Wow. This is a first, Citizen, someone actually volunteering to get into the suitcase. Though it's not that large. In fact, really the only way a person can fit into it would be to cut their arms and legs off, then stack them on top to create a nice two layer effect. *coughs*

Someone mentioned about it being their first and last convention. Yeah, that's what I thought about the original Serenity too.

i went to serenity2 last year. it was my first ever con and i thought it was way expensive but TRUST ME - its so completely worth it.

Other cons can charge £20 for a guest autograph and thats on top of entry fees. so to say you get a free autograph from each guest and entry and guest talks and parties all for £75 it's really worth the money.

also i didnt know a soul at the last con and now i know heaps of uk browncoats cuz we're all so damned friendly.

do it! book cubed today!

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

Tayeatra,

I've now decided I'm going, however I am waiting on a mate to see if he's going, I'll speak to him tonight and find out for sure. If he don't go I'd be happy to share a room (I believe Emma is now sharing with Leaina).
Though as I live in the South West we won't be able to car share.

I'll get back to you tomorrow if you are still looking for someone to share with.

Diska, you're making me even more excited, stop it, I gotta wait til September, this is like the wait to watch Serenity, impossibly long.

I've spent the afternoon doing a little research. I have now officially booked my ticket (don't you just love credit cards? They let you buy thinks you can't afford!)

Terrible news folks, the Thistle Hotel (the one the convention is at) is fully booked! However, the Radisson Edwardion just over the road is still available and just a bit cheaper. There price for a single room and breakfast is about £60, whereas a twin room is £63.45 (inc vat) without breakfast or £75.20 with. Split that in two and you can see why I am so keen to share (apart from the fun of getting to know someone!)

I have made no definate committments as yet although have been chatting to Tayeatra in PM and feel we have a lot in common! What I think I'll do is book a room tomorrow so that I don't lose out and just hope I can sort out someone to fill the extra bed!! Better to take the risk than end up without a room I think!

I'm going I'm going!! Me! Me!

S2 was my first con and I loved it so much I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Infact I've put off moving to Canada for a month so's I could go! Call me crazy but you know.. Jewel and Morena are gonna be there. Totally the funniest sweetest girls ever! If Nathan was going I'd be on top of the moon.

I would have said I'd love to share a room with someone, but alas I am already taken! There'll be so many people there though it won't really matter who you share a room with.

I can't wait I can't wait!

Also when the Team Random thread gets going again we'll be talking about S3 insessantly! Coz I for one am too excited!

SASSALICIOUS

I really really really want to go, but I don't live in the UK and I'm not sure I could ever find as cheap of a ticket to Europe as I did last Dec/Jan ($250! Chicago to Dublin! AMAZING!). Especially given that I decided I absolutely cannot be in WI this summer and thus I'm running away to Hawaii (fingers crossed) to hang out and volunteer on organic farms.

But if you can handle me being incredibly last minute and probably not knowing whether or not I'm going until about a month beforehand (flight deals!), I would be more than happy to split the cost of a room. Even if it involves sleeping on a floor and I don't mind sharing with guys either. I had this great experience at a hostel . . . it was 11 guys and me in a room. Fun stuff.

Okay, I've just been on the phone to the Sheraton Heathrow (Not the Radisson as previously stated, got confused with names!) and casually asked if they had any triple rooms, since two people had definately said they were interested in sharing. There was only one left so I provisionally booked it! There'll be no penalty if I want to change it to a twin room later.

Leaina, do you want to join Tayeatra and me in a triple room? The room is £84 plus vat a night (without breakfast) which works out at about £68 a head for the Friday and Saturday nights. The salesman guy persuaded me to reserve this room by telling me that he'd cut the rate from £150 a night so it should be a good room!

If it's all happening a bit fast for you and you want to hold off for a while I'll understand (I don't want to push anyone into anything) and Tayeatra and I'll opt of a twin room (there's not a great deal of difference in price). I just panicked about how quickly rooms were disappearing!

I've just had to confess to my family that I have already spent the birthday money they haven't actually given me yet!

Never was one for patience! What if it had sold out while I was waiting?!

Shiny, how did they take it? Yeah better to be safe than sorry.

Sucks that the hotel is full, better make bookings quick. Anyone else interested in sharing and saving some cashy money, let me know.

Well, they rolled their eyes a bit but forgave me!

About that room, unless someone asks me not to in the next few hours I think I'm gonna change it to a twin. After all that is what I originally intended (I think I got salesmanized!) and there's less risk of one person dropping out (for whatever reason) and leaving the others to foot the bill. Taya, hope you're ok with that. Don't worry, we don't have to pay till checkout time.

That reminds me. I've been to this hotel before. The nearest cashpoint is about 5 miles away and the merchandise sellers don't accept credit cards. Whatever you are expecting tospend over the weekend on cool Firefly stuff, double it at least and take cash! (Oooh, look at all the pretties! And me without any cashy money! )

Thanks for the warning. I'll start saving my cashy money. I'm all too reliant on plastic these days!

It made me cry one year when I found something that I just couldn't live without!
In the end I worked a deal with the guy behind the bar. Bought a £2 drink and got £50 cashback!
