The Devil comes up from a Hellmouth, and says, "This world doesn't deserve to have both Firefly AND Serenity. I'm taking one of them away permantly, YOU choose which! (And don't bother with God, he's away lookin' at some inter-dimensional real-estate, he can't help you here.)"

So, which do you choose to remain among us?
Firefly- or -Serenity?

My own self, Serenity, cause I like closure (and Mal being forced into the Hero role).

Any thoughts here?

Dang fool Chrisisall

I get your question Chrisisall...and I would never give up Firefly...
of course Joss has said that TV is like women:
talking endlessly about relationships, taking your time, and asking the questions.
movies are like men: all action and results, in and out as fast as you can....

LOL (that isn't a direct quote)

but Joss fought long and hard to get Serenity made, and there is no way I would give that up either.

I'll actually go ahead and answer the question.

No question about it, I give up Serenity. I don't agree with the reasoning of keeping Serenity for closure, because if Firefly was wiped out of existence, Serenity wouldn't be clsure to anything. Without Firefly, I don't think Serenity would be tha big of a deal.

While I agree with the sentiment, in truth, if I'd come across Serenity cold, I would have recognized it's brilliance and severly timely messages anyway, it would have just taken a bit longer for it to seep into my soul, and become my all-time favourite movie...like it is now.

In keeping with the spirit of the question I'd have to go with SERENITY also. It's a keeper. A mere crumb of the big pie I know, but it's a great tasting crumb...

It's not for the sake of closure though. I just enjoyed the journey so much and I'm such a sucker for that 'hunted down' across the ends of the 'verse type stuff.

The show as brilliant as it was would have broken my heart in so many places as it progressed, I just know this.

Firefly, definitely. Serenity is only 120 minutes of thrilling heroics. Firefly gives me a lot more.

My first inclination would be to keep both, but if I absolutely had to choose, it would be Firefly. While I love Serenity dearly, I still have severe post-traumatic stress from seeing Wash die.

Yep, definitely the show.

no one makes me make that kind of a decision...

...however if satan had me by the nuts ide say bye bye to serenity coz 600 mins of firefly is better than 120mins of serenity and leaves a second series open with all characters in place :)

Indeed Chrisisall :D

I fully understand the majority swing for Firefly as opposed to SERENITY should ol' beelzebub make an appearance :D

However the cinematic experience of SERENITY was something I hadn't experienced since I was a kid, full of innocence and wonder as I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark flick before my eyes for the first time! That magic and that sense of spectacle that I had, all those years ago, all came back to me as I prepared to watch SERENITY. I was so excited, and my buddy and I were itching to see our Heros on the big screen.

Basically I'd been waiting 25 years or so for that thrill once again and that's why I would go for SERENITY. It has rejuvinated my interest in cinema just as Buffy did with TV.

So I'll hold it dear and look forward to showing it to my kids, when/if I have any. It'll be a double bill Raiders then SERENITY. Can you imagine!

:D

LOL, Raliegh.

Oh, the Devil If we met and he made me choose between Firefly and Serenity, I would point out that both are filed with evil and badness and ambiguous morals and that if one were to be removed from the world, that would mean more people would watch 7th Heaven or something like that... I mean, clearly Firefly and Serenity are great contributers to anti-establishment thinking that the Devil would support (having gone again God, and all). Right? Or... at least they corrupt people? Well, they certainly do inspire obsession...

Assuming (admittedly faulty) logic didn't work, and I failed at kicking him in the balls and running for whatever reason, I would go with Firefly. I'm more of a TV person than a movie person. However, I would travel to an abandoned corner of Hell to retrieve a copy of the movie and then fight a deamon army by leading them troups of waiting US soliders who are trying to kill me, and then I would break into a broadcast station and play the gorram movie, because you can't stop the serenity!

Or something like that.

While I love my son at the age of 7, I can't wait until he's old enough for Raiders and Serenity! We already did Star Wars, he of course loves it (mostly for C3PO and R2D2, he's a robonut).
But yeah, for interesting heros with an edge, those would be the two, all full with the adventure and such.

You guys are looking at this all wrong. Here we've got Satan an independent who got beat down by the man and cast out on account of superior numbers (they were outnumbered two to one) whos making the best of it leading his troops through the fallout reminding them, "Here at least we shall be free," and all of this to go against the all powerful (how is that for an underdog, semi-powerful Lucifer vs. All-Powerful-God) world-without-sin supporters.

We don't need to beat this guy, we need to make him sit down and watch. As soon as he's seen how good it is he can help us because all of the evil people, like say Fox executives, already sold their souls, which means he owns them. He has the power to put it back on the air.

This could be what he's been waiting for, this could be why he's been hoarding souls for so long, one chance to look into the face of the almighty and say, with the entire world as his witness, "I aim to misbehave."

Let's remember where we stand here;
There's god, "Thou shalt have no other god before me."
And there's Satan, "Here at least we shall be free."

Satan is a, "The mind is its own place, and in it self Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n." kind of guy and god is a, "Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. "

Where do you stand?

If you took this seriously you are in the wrong state of mind for this.

I challenge you to see where a unified world would be a bad thing, and not according to Gods' wishes!

You can't defy that logic, answer the question straight and true. I don't think you can.

TheRightStuff

I so wanted to respond to that when I first read it but the title of the thread had kept me away until after the thread was old news.

I mean the logic just begs for response, for example if the Muslims pervert the word of god they must first have the word of god, which means that the Quran is the word of god, just perverted, since it remains the only uncorrupted holy book on this planet we must then accept that the Quran is the uncorrupted word of god and the evil Muslims are just perverting it's teachings and practicing their own.

So Islam is the truth faith, it is simply that it's followers have strayed from the truth path and ...

I had a much better and more logical response when I first read it.

The other thing that got me is I thought it was the antichrist that was supposed to do the whole one world government unified world bit before Jesus came in, got tired of turning the other cheek, and kicked the bastard into the pit for 1,000 years while he (Jesus) got a workout for the final showdown.

-

I don’t know, I'm too tired now to think straight, but I remember regretting not getting to that thread until it was over. Trolls are so fun and all.

Besides, if all on earth is holy then it would be impossible for Bush to make it so because it already is and ... I'm still pissed off I missed the fun.

Anyway, "Building Better Worlds," is the Wayland-Yutani motto and the reason Miranda went to shit, I prefer the flawed ones, so much more fun. Places you can live in.

-
--
-

Missed opertunities. Oh well, I still maintain we should convert Satan, and god too. With the two of them working together nothing could stand in our way, ok so that's not true, if there was one revolution there could be several, but certainly they're both heavy hitters and I wouldn't mind having them backing us.
