We haven't had a hard freeze here in quite a few winters (global warming?) so the bug are really thriving... i don't mind the fireflys, but the love bugs are terrible....

I hate them. And may I just say THE MAN SHOULD HAVE TO KILL THE BUG.

Sorry. I went away for a moment, but I have found me and I am back

Are they the sort of love bug with the number 53 painted on the side? if they are, don't stand on Herbie!

Edit: I did have a picture to illustrate my little joke, but I can't figure out how to put images into posts on this board.

These bugs have more in common with the number 69 I am thinking. ICK. They live to procreate. And they are everywhere.

Well... If I could've worked out how to post pictures it would've made more sense :S

The Love Bug was a Volkswagen Beetle that was alive. 3 Disney Films starring that little guy...

You could always try fitting all the male bugs with condoms... probably not the most practical way... and it would make you look crazy...

Used to be my favourite film as a kid that. I'd get up early on a sunday morning and watch all of them in order whilst trying to figure out which cereals mix well.

Did you know that in some parts of the world, fireflies "sync up" with each other? You can have a whole tree flashing on and off like a Christmas light set.

I've never seen it myself, but it must be a hwai sight.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Shiny!! I'm gonna watch for that as firefly season starts here in the Midwest.

They're hard to find. One source I found says this:

Quote:

Synchrony, concurrent repetitive group flashing, is rare. There are only two known synchronized firefly species in the United States: Photinus carolinus and Phoruis frontalis, and only the males are synchronous. The former is found at Elkmont in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, at Congaree Swamp National Park in South Carolina, in high elevation areas-at least 2,000 feet-in parts of the Carolinas, and in parts of the Appalachian Mountain range, from Virginia to Georgia. The P. frontalis species mostly is found along coastal plain areas, primarily in Georgia.

However, a different source reports synchronized flashing in southern Indiana.

Apparently the most dramatic displays are in parts of Africa, where thousands of the little guys may flash in sync.

I saw that last year in Mid-Michigan. It was awesome! Absolutely hundreds of the little guys all sync'd up. It was like seeing the 'verse flashing on and off all around you. It was just....SHINY!

The fireflys are late here (Eastern NC) this year. Spring's been cool and wet-needs to warm up a little and then they'll be out in droves.

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I miss the little guys. None here in CA.
We used to fill up a jar during the evening
but then we were made to let them free.
All we have here are skeeters. They *bite*
in unison, I believe.
