Ok so here's how it is. There are enough firefly enthusiasts out in the verse for us to pay for the new series. This site for one, has no advertisments. Why not? its for us so its all pure, but I say forget that, advertisers give tangible money to put a banner or something on your website. Why not put this money to good use, funding a new series of Firefly.
So What do you think.

Also is there a paypal account for collecting donations for trying to do the same.

Actually I think this is a remarkably good idea and one I'm surprised hasn't been thought of.

I for one would be happy to put up with the mild inconvenience in such a good cause.

However, saying we do manage to collect a few thousand pounds a month this way. What would we do with it? Send it to Joss as bribe money? I am soubtful that we could ever make enough for a full budget series!

It could help fund spreading the word, or events like S-Day, the Serenity Summer Campaign and Serenity 'Versary.

Given that each episode was supposed to have cost two million dollars and the 2 hour episode pilot a lot more, you'd need to raise a heck of a lot of money to finance a 22 episode season. Probably around $50-55 million.

50 mil. Alot, But Do-able. Think how many people there are that would contribule £1 €1 $1, i know i would donate more, Its just the scale. 1 person on their own cant change the world, But all of us together might just be able too.

Ace Underhill is already trying to raise money to "buy" another season, but it's legally impossible, as far as I've heard.

This is true. However it would be shiny to have enough cashy money to do more fun stuff like taking out big adds in national papers promoting the seires/ movie and gain more converts. I hear that that happened in America. A big advert to thank Joss for the great series. Lovely idea!

The two million per episode figure was inflated. F@x amortized the 10 million dollar cost of the unaired pilot across the rest of the season. While that is a true and valid part of funding a show, it seemed to be used as just another excuse by the f@x execs as to why they should cancel the show. Once you back that cost out the show cost about 1.25-1.5 million per episode from what I remember.

That's only 150k-250k more than Andromeduh, which shows that money and quality are not always linked. Or else that that last 150k is worth spending.

I've been here for awhile and have seen the gathering- up- money ideas come and go. This is what we should do with money we get. Another ad or a sign that says thank you to Universal or one that says we are still here and want more... all of those are a better idea than trying to fund the series or another movie thru fan donations or advertising. This is a possibility that should be considered. May not be able to do it, but it should be considered, IMHO.

It feels so frustrating that we can't just reach out somehow and just do something to make this happen. Immediately. I wake up every morning and go to my computer and come to our home here and look for news that there will be a sequel or a series or a mini-series. I do it everyday!
Still! We are going to have to funnel that want, that energy into this Summer of Serenity and do all that we can do as a fandom to try our best to make them see that we're still out here, still growing and we still want more. And that we're grateful.

I think the grateful part ought to be first. It's kind of like complimenting the cook for the excellence of your meal... they're likely to be pleased and consider cooking for you again, since you enjoyed it so much. As frustrated as we are with Universal not announcing a sequel yesterday!!, they did an awesome thing making Serenity and we need to remind them how much we appreciate it.

Just my 2 cents this morning. But I did want to note that I like this idea very much. Maybe one of the campaigns can be about doing this come Summer of Serenity.

Did everyone notice that the Browncoats Events Forum is all shiny and organized now?

"You hold. Hold 'til I get back." Mal

Actually it was my site www.browncoatsriseagain.com that started with that premise. It was stopped when I realized that it is Joss's decision, not ours to be brought into alternative funding.

Ace is about leasing the rights to the show from Fox (which would involve Joss's approval) and creating episodes that would be shown on pay-per-view, DVD, or both.

I think this is excellent advice. I had proposed doing an ad in Variety or some place to thank Universal as part of the Summer of Serenity campaign. I hope we can come together to do this.

Universal did go out on a limb with Serenity and thus far, may just barely be making some money back from their investment. We need to promote the Serenity DVD, increase the fan base, thank Universal, and then, hopefully, we can get our Big Damn Sequel(s).

I have a friend who's in high school and put up a small web page with ads by google on it. He gets money every time someone clicks on the ad, about 50 cents. He made about 100 dollars last month, mainly because not too many people visit his site, so I started going to it and randomly clicking on the ads to make him money. Now, with our 20,000 registered users, if we had google ads (or something similar) and we each just clicked an ad every time we visited the site we could easily earn a lot of cashy money. You don't even have to buy anything, just click on the ad.

We can then take this money and:
1) buy DVDs to Donate to libraries, soldiers, etc.
2) place ads and other campaigning tools to spread the word
3) Give money to charity in the name of Browncoats and
4) Hold a national shindig (or two, an east coaster and a west coaster) for all of us browncoats to get together and just have a good time.

There's my two cents, but all in all ads is up to Haken.

A few days ago I was sitting on a long-haul flight being kept sane by listening to some BBC radio dramas on my iPod.

It occurred to me how well Firefly would work on the radio (or podcast!), how much cheaper this would be than a new TV series or movie, and how the rights issues might be of a lower order of impossibility (since it wouldn't compete with hypothetical future movies or TV shows).

Plus, a fan base that is willing to buy multiple copies of DVDs might even be persuaded to *pay* for MP3 downloads...

That sounds like something that actually could happen. As a "Birds of Prey" fan (a WB casualty) I've been through this, bring back the series stuff before. Hard to believe anything could work but I do like this.

OK the podcasts that are out there are good, but alas not profesionally done. I will try and pull strings at the BBC, I have family members taht work there, and at the end of the day Radio 4 wouldprobably love somthing like this, only thing is whether Joss would endorse or allow the wantant destruction of his creation, as a radio series really could kill Firefly. Im digging the idea of buying dvd's for librarys though really nice touch. Also Partys whoot, apart from being in the UK I really think that could work.

Charity screenings, in aid of a second series, now that is a zarking ace idea.

At the end of the day we all know that in the future there will be a secomd series, the main thing is to not loose interest or hope. And fill in this questionaire.

I don't see why - Doctor Who seems to have survived the audio play treatment, while Hitchhikers Guide and Red Dwarf started on the radio! (...and the actor who played Frodo in the BBC radio version of Lord of the Rings went on to play Bilbo in the movie!)

Worst case scenario is that it flops, in which case the funders can be thankful that they spent a fraction of the cost of a TV production. Best case scenario is that it keeps interest in the show alive until something better comes along.

I Guess so, I agree about Red Dwarf, and Hitchhikers, But they were originaly written for radio and then moved to TV, I dont know how easy it is to take it the opposite way.
