Sorry if this has been posted before, but just wanted to make sure everyone saw that the new issue of Wired Magazine (an American technology mag, not sure if it's international) has a paragraph called "Why Firefly Will Never Die," about the efforts to raise funds for a fan-sponsored second season. I know this topical is controversial, but you can't beat a headline like that! It's on p. 68, I can retype the text if needed. Again, sorry if this is redundant, I'm getting married next month and have lost track of the boards... :-)

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I didn't know that. Shiny!

One summer.
One mission.
One legion of Browncoats.

Starting June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I hope they will do an article in the future about our efforts over the Summer of Serenity to thank Universal.

I also wish this article had been about the charity screenings in June. That would have been awesome.

I'm reserving judgement about such things as fan sponsored stuff, but I have to say any mention of Firefly anywhere can be a good thing.

So shiny!

"The people who made the show, and the people who saw the show, which is roughly the same number of people, fell in love with it, a little bit too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called unrealistic, quixotic, obsessive... In my world, they're called Browncoats."

Okay, I guess this isn't old news, or at least it's old enough that people have forgotten already. :-) It's in the May 2006 Wired, with Al Gore on the cover with the cover title "Climate Crisis!" The story's on p. 68 and says,

Why Firefly Will Never Die

Joss Whedon's Firefly was canceled in 2002, but don't tell the Browncoats. These superfans continue to produce weekly podcasts and engage in live-action role-playing games inspired by the TV show. Browncoat Andrew Schultz recently raised $1,300 in 24 hours to help Fox produce a second season. Studio officials scoffed, saying that fan funding is "simply not a realistic scenario." But the Browncoats aren't giving up. They're looking into licensing the rights to create and distribute new Firefly episodes on DVD or on demand -- an arrangement that would cost millions. "I have no doubt that there will be new stories, whether they are in comic book form, a movie, or a new TV series" Shultz says. "It'll happen; it's just too good to let die." -- Timothy Sprinkle

There's a picture of two guys in brown coats, with the caption: I am Superfan! Shultz (right) runs Browncoatsriseagain.com.
