Something I thought would be fun. Here's how it goes:

There'll be several award categories (saddest, funniets, etc.), and for the next 2 weeks, you can post a reply in this thread with your vote for the best scene in each category. All episodes are fair game, including unaired ones (and deleted scenes if you've got the DVDs). Now, on with the categories!

-Funniest Scene:

-Saddest/most heartbreaking Scene:

-Most Romantic Scene

-Scene with the best music:

-Scene that gave you the most warm fuzzies:

-Creepiest Scene:

-Wierdest Scene:

-Best fight scene:

And For each of the characters, the scene you think they were best in (or scene about them you liked best, whatever):

-Best Mal Scene:

-Best Zoe Scene:

-Best Wash Scene:

-Best Inara Scene:

-Best Kaylee Scene:

-Best Jayne Scene:

-Best Simon Scene:

-Best River Scene:

-Best Book Scene:

Wow... that's a lotta categories! probably overkill, but oh well

And if you've got any more categories to suggest, by all means do so!

CALHOUN

Succatash! weirdest scene: Mal peeing on his hands then washing his face. Whats so weird about that? Everyone knows that urine is loaded with melatonin which has among other medicinal value a profound and positive effect on the skin and complexion. Come on now I am sure I am not the only one to wash my face with urine!

I had a friend whose grandmother did so it's not unheard of to me. Though, as I understand if you don't have a healthy diet and drink lots of water it's not good for you to do so (i.e. if your urine is very yellow).

Though, everytime I see that scene I think: "So. very. unsanitary."

But then I didn't think he was peeing on his hands then washing his face. I just thought he was peeing then he didn't wash his hands too well afterwards and put them directly on his face. I have sometimes suggested that perhaps it was hand sanitizer coming out of that faucet. Just to make myself feel better.

RFUNCHES

Saddest/most heartbreaking Scene:
Final scene of the final episode, when Tracey is finally returned home. Every time I see it...well, it's just like everyone who worked on that scene put their heart into it: the actors, the D.P., the composer, etc. Truly a tearjerker scene if I've ever seen one.

I have to review my DVDs.

The creepiest scene:
When River is on the ship and looking up, and then you see the bodies...*shivers*

Funniest Scene:
Basically any scene with Wash, but especially the Dinosaur scene.

Or the Hero of Canton Scene, Simon's look is priceless!

Will be popping later to reply more.

Most heart-breaking scene/Simon scene:
In Safe, near the end where they're about to light the stake, and he says "Light it."

Or, in the beginning of Serenity, when those humongus ships come, and the look on Mal's face.

Kaylee Scene:
In shindig, where she's talking about ships to all the guys about engines.

River scene:
In Objects in Space: At the end, where Mal says "Give your brother a thrashing for messing up your plan." And River replies: "He takes so much looking after." And where she's impersonating Serenity.

Best music:
Safe; when River is dancing.

Mal scene:
At the end of Safe (I think), where Simon asks Mal why he came back, and Mal replies because you're on my crew, Simon asks again, and Mal replies, again, because you're on my crew. "Why are we still discussing this?"

Thought of one: Best dress.

For me, it would br difficult. I would make a section for each character. Poofiest dress, tightest pants, etc.

But all in all, I love River's clothes. I really like her outfit in Safe. (That's not my favorite episode. If I were forced to choose, it would be either Ariel or Objects in Space.)

Cool thread, Melee! Keep flyin'!

Haha, this subject is funny. Right after Book and Inara call him a man of mystery.

THOREAU

-Funniest Scene:
Objects in Space, Jubal Early: "Well, here I am"

-Saddest/most heartbreaking Scene:
The Message, when they're carrying Tracey's coffin to his family. Not because of Tracey, but because it's the end and you can really feel that in the scene.

-Most Romantic Scene
It's late and I'm barely awake, I can't remember which episode it was, but the scenes with Inara and her female client.

-Scene with the best music:
The Message, when they're carrying Tracey's coffin to his family.

-Scene that gave you the most warm fuzzies:
Any of the scenes where they're just sitting around the table, eating together. Except when Jayne was being mean to Kaylee.

-Creepiest Scene:
Objects in Space, Jubal Early threatening to rape Kaylee if she doesn't comply.

-Wierdest Scene:
Objects in Space, River when she first starts talking as Serenity.

-Best fight scene:
War Stories, Cap'n One-Ear giving his torturers (sp?) a little something back, then the gang showing up to help him finish it.

And For each of the characters, the scene you think they were best in (or scene about them you liked best, whatever):

-Best Mal Scene:
Serenity, when he walks onto Serenity and shoots the Alliance guy in the face. That quick decisive action is pure Mal.

-Best Zoe Scene:
War Stories, going into Niska's station to get her man back. Especially when she chooses Wash before Niska can finish asking her to choose.

-Best Wash Scene:
The Message, his fanciful flying through the gulleys while the pursuers are calmly flying overhead.

-Best Inara Scene:
Serenity, the scene with the homely kid client of hers, the way you see her internal reactions to each reckless barb then just what she shows on the outside.

-Best Kaylee Scene:
Serenity, eating the strawberry.

-Best Jayne Scene:
Serenity, the interrogation of the fed.

-Best Simon Scene:
The only character I didn't love instantly, still have a hard time with this selfish wanker. I guess the bit in Ariel where he steps away from the caper to save another doctor's patient.

-Best River Scene:
Objects in Space, the whole bit where she's walking through Serenity, touching the walls, seeing and hearing everyone's thoughts, culminating in the fantastically shot bit where she leans over and picks up the branch/gun.

-Best Book Scene:
War Stories, 'Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps.' Tied with Objects in Space "I don't give half a hump if you're innocent or not!"

t

Jayne: "These are stone killers, little man. They ain't cuddly like me."

Wierdest scene:
In Serenity, when Inara is with that client.

Most romanitc:
I have to agree with throeau. When Inara is with her female client.

Warm fuzzies:
At the end of Ariel, when River says "It's time to go to sleep" (I think), and Simon replies "No, mei-mei. It's time to wake up."

Fight scene:
In War stories, when Wash is helping out.

Zoe/Wash scene:
In Shindig, when they're both in bed.

Jayne scene:
In Ariel, where he says, "Don't tell 'em what I did." Would also qualify for best Mal scene.

Book scene:
Our Mrs. Renyolds; "Isn't that...special"

Inara scene:
At the end of Shindig, where she's explaining to Atherton that he is black-listed or whatever.

Best Guest scene:
Either the Reaver kid or Tracey (?).

Scene that gave you the most warm fuzzies:

LORA

-Funniest Scene: Jaynestown, when they discover the statue. They all have great things to say. "This here's a spectacle might warrant a moment's consideration." "This must be what going mad feels like." "How's about we move away from this eerie ass piece of work and get on with our increasin'ly eerie ass day?"

-Saddest/most heartbreaking Scene: The scene at the end of Heart of Gold when Mal declares he is feeling truthsome and Inara responds by telling him about getting too close to the strength of someone like Nandi and, ergo, she's decided to leave. Tore me up.

-Most Romantic Scene: Wash and Zoe, making out on the bridge when River is wandering about being psychic at the beginning of Objects in Space.

-Scene with the best music: Last scene of The Message.

-Scene that gave you the most warm fuzzies: Near the end of Serenity, Wash and Kaylee with the help of Jayne and Book have just gotten them out of the Reavers' grasp. Kaylee looks affectionately at the bulkhead and pats her saying "That's my girl, my good girl."

-Creepiest Scene: Niska talking to his victim about Shan Yu at the beginning of War Stories when he's informed that "there's a read, the other side of the world, could be Serenity". He's the creepiest thing in the series when he goes back to torturing that poor fellow and gleefully thinks about getting his hands on our Captain.

-Wierdest Scene: Objects in Space, when we are shown that Early is listening to the others discuss River from the outside while River listens from her perch in the cargo bay.

-Best fight scene: War Stories, Jayne and Zoe and Wash going after the Captain, with Book taking out kneecaps and covering their backs.

-Best Mal Scene: Can I pick the whole episode of Out of Gas? No? Go se! Oh, well, then my favorite Mal scene is in Out of Gas when he proves that he is what a Captain should be. The scene where he's got everyone in the common room and he goes into his "time to start thinkin' about what we do got" speech. "Four per shuttle," he says, "I'm staying with Serenity; when they answer that beacon, someone's got to be here."

-Best Zoe Scene: When she goes to buy back her men in War Stories. Very serious, very watchful, very professional. All the way from the point where she's gathering money from the others to the point where Wash tells her "Bastard's not gonna get days." She is just great. ("I've come to buy back my men." "Him. I'm sorry, you were gonna make me choose, right? D'you wanna finish?" That cold stare for Niska over Mal's ear.)

-Best Wash Scene: His interrogation in Bushwhacked.

-Best Inara Scene: The duel at the end of Shindig.

-Best Kaylee Scene: Her interaction with Book at the Eavesdown Docks in Serenity when she's got her hair up, her blue jacket on, her parasol with her coveralls that have the bear applique, and her flip-flop shoes. "You're gonna come with us," she says. "You like ships and mine's the nicest."

-Best Jayne Scene: The end of Ariel, when he's in the airlock and knows Mal intends to kill him and he shows that he can grow a conscience. "Make somethin' up. Don't tell 'em what I did," he says.

-Best Simon Scene: Near the end of Safe when the townsfolk are about to burn River for being a witch. He climbs right up there beside her and says "Light it." Gives me chills every time.

-Best River Scene: Objects in Space, the combination of "She's not on the ship. She's in the ship. She is the ship...You're talking to Serenity," and then her exchange with the Captain that ends with "Don't make faces." This is what she's capable of.

-Best Book Scene: In Serenity when he disarms and knocks out the lawman and then proceeds to stand up to Jayne, "You're not killing this man." That look, that tone of certainty. (Why did they not air this first?!?)

-Best Saffron Scene: Digging in the garbage bin at the end of Trash. Right where she deserved to be. (I'd choose the moment when Zoe punched her, except she should have been on the floor on her butt with a broken jaw. She should not have come away from that with no mark to show for Zoe's...ministrations. Zoe's a lot tougher than her.)

After reading everyone else's, I had to comment on Saffron...

"Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity?"

LORA

Teela, that's how I feel about all the scenes everyone else picked that I didn't think of! I have to stand by my choices, though, that's why I wrote it before I read the entire thread.

"Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity?"

Though you're right, Lora, it's very hard to choose a favorite. So, people are bound to say ones you also like, but you chose something else. Ces't la vie. (I think that's the correcet spelling).

Melee, this is a wonderful thread. It's making us think, and it's shiny!

SPIFFYTHEDOG

-Funniest Scene: Easily, Mal telling Simon that Kaylee is dead, him finding out she's alive, and the cut to everyone in mid-laugh. I had to pause the dvd the first time I saw this because I was laughing so hard.

-Saddest/most heartbreaking Scene: Mal in Serenity when he sees the alliance ships landing and knows that he's lost the war, and it just zooms off of his face for like 30 seconds.

-Most Romantic Scene: Mal, Inara, and the cattle at the end of Shindig.

-Scene with the best music: Hard to say. Overall the whole series had great music - gotta love the theme.

-Creepiest Scene: Mal, Zoe, and River look up in Bushwacked and see all the bodies hanging from the ceiling.

-Weirdest Scene: River suddenly talking with a british accent in Shindig.

-Best fight scene: The beginning of Shindig (mostly cuz of that part where Jayne hits that one dude with the stool and he does a backflip or something).

-Best Mal Scene: In The Message: "WOOOH! I'M RIGHT HERE!"

-Best Zoe Scene: Same scene as mal, but before his entrance.

-Best Wash Scene: Him with the dinosaurs. "Mine is an evil laugh!"

-Best Inara Scene: Any scene where she gets naked.

-Best Kaylee Scene: Out Of Gas, when we see how she first came to the ship.

-Best Jayne Scene: The Message. "Man walks down the street in that hat, people know he fears nothing." "Damn straight."

-Best Simon Scene: His monologue in Serenity after everyone discovers River.

-Best River Scene: Her monologue in Objects In Space, to lure Early outside of the ship.

-Best Book Scene: The hair. I forget which episode, but you should know what i'm talking about.

SAINT JAYNE

-Funniest Scene: Trash, Simon, River and Jayne discussing trust in the infirmary. All of that serious and touching build-up just explodes when River adds, "Also, I can kill you with my brain".

-Saddest/most heartbreaking Scene: Out of Gas, Mal drops the catalyzer.

-Most Romantic Scene: End of Out of Gas, Mal hypnotised by Serenity.

-Scene with the best music: End of Trash, bringing Tracey home.

-Scene that gave you the most warm fuzzies: End of Out of Gas, crew comes back and saves Mal.

-Creepiest Scene: Bushwacked, River looking up at the hanging bodies.
(Nod to Objects in Space, Early threatening Kaylee with rape, but I find this more "disturbing" and less "creepy")

-Wierdest Scene: War Stories, Mal and Wash chatting while being tortured.

-Best fight scene: Serenity, Mal vs Patience.
(Also, teaser of Serenity, Mal vs Skiff is very good)

-Most Tense Scene: Ariel, Jayne, Simon and River fleeing the Men in Blue.

-Best Mal Scene: Serenity, "Kaylee's dead" speech and subsequent high-larity.

-Best Zoe Scene: Serenity, describing what Reavers do if they board.

-Best Simon Scene: End of Trash, "I'm trusting you" speech to Jayne.

-Best River Scene: War Stories, wiping out three armed guards with her eyes closed.

-Best Book Scene: Serenity, "I think I'm on the wrong ship" speech.

-Favourite Guest Character Scene: Our Mrs Reynolds, Saffron sobbing quietly as Mal shoots his mouth off.

Funiest:

The funniest scene is the scene in "Jaynestown" where Book has his hair out and it startles River and Zoe.

Saddest:

Again in "Jaynestown", at the very end, when Jayne can't comprehend why the guy saved his life.

Most Romantic:

Inara in "Serenity", deffinately

Best Music:

The music in "Serenity" when Mal looks out and looses hope, the music is so fitting.

Most Warm Fuzzies:

The moment you realize River's plan in "Objects in Space" and Mal pushes Early off from the ship. Also in the following scene where River and Kaylee are playing Jax.

Creepiest Scene:

Deffinately in "Bushwhacked" when they enter the ship, you just have this creepy feeling that something is wrong.

Weirdest Scene:

Wash playing with his dinosaurs...just weird funny.

Best Fight Scene:

Serenity Valley in "Serenity"

Mal:
When you "meet the real me" in "War Stories"

Zoe:
I have to agree with Alan Tudyk and Jewel Staite in "The Message" when she slits the guys throat and saves Tracey's life.

Wash:
When he is playing with his dinosaurs.

Inara:
When she leaves Saffron in the dumpster.

Kaylee:
When she is talking to the men at the banquet in "Shindig."

Jayne:
When he kills the guy in "Jaynestown" and his speech that ensues.

Simon:
When he is fighting Early in "Objects in Space"

River:
When she shoots the soldiers in "War Stories"

Book:
When he knocks the Fed out in "Serenity"

But I would have picked, "Oh boy, I'm going to the special Hell," if I hadn't referenced it twice on this list already.

-Best Jayne Scene: The pom-pom hat

-Best Simon Scene: Simon in Kaylee's doorway in "The Message"
