There I was, relaxing in the tub, and when I got out the place was over-run by Darleks!

I only got out alive through some quick thinking. I put a swing-bin over my head and held a sink plunger out in front of me as I edged towards the door, croaking 'exterminate'!

Those Darleks. Scary, but not that bright!

Just watched Serenity Part One and Two. It was awesome, totally and completely awesome! It's like meeting the characters again for the first time! Unfortunately, my parents aren't too keen on letting me stay home from school just to watch it, so it'll have to go in small increments (until Friday night that is

Deepgirl...I love your Gir! He's my favourite character on that show!

So...watched all the episodes except for Objects in Space...wow! I'm totally blown away! It had me laughing until my sides ached, crying until my sides ached! (ok, maybe not crying that much) Just...I can barely put into words how amazing it was! it makes me even angrier that it was cancelled...why would anyone do that? It's craziness, pure and simple! And not the good kind of craziness!

One thing's for certain though, YoSafBrige is plain creepifyin. She just got scarier and scarier. Not as scary as Niska, though. That was horrible!

Poor Simon too...everytime he seemed to be getting somewhere with Kaylee, he'd go and say something stupid.

But seeing him drunk was pretty great! He should get drunk more often...

Ack! I'm babbling like a moonbrain! What's going on in here? Looks like we have mutant llamas to add to the dalek craziness...

I'll never understand it. If I read fanfic it's because I'd want more adventures, more episodes with the crew to enjoy - this kinda stuff was never in the show, and for good reason. It's just odd how some folks minds work, and the kind of twisted fantasies they must have (shudder).

It's up to you. I tend to pick and choose my favourites, plus not ALL the series are available (if you're talking classics here).

I'd strongly recommend the following 'classic' episodes though:

THE DALEK INVASION OF EARTH (1964)
A really classic dalek story - basically refilmed as the campy Peter Cushing flick, though this black and white original is so much better.

GENESIS OF THE DALEKS (1975)
Tom Baker's moody and mysterious doctor is superb, and this story fills in the past history of Davros and the Daleks. A real classic and a must-see for any fan (though the pacing can seem a little slow at times)

THE FIVE DOCTORS (1983)
A really fun and enjoyable story with 4 of the past doctors (though of course the first doctor is now being played by a different actor as William Hartnell had passed away) - and a short clip of Tom Baker - which has a bit of everything in it. It's great fun.

THE CAVES OF ANDROZANI (1984)
The final story of Peter Davison's doctor and a really interesting story (despite the dodgy magma monster) - but as always the low budget doesn't spoil a really good story.

REMEMBRANCE OF THE DALEKS (1988)
Sylvester McCoy (my personal fav doctor - after his hit and miss first year) in a story that any dalek fan simply must see (IMHO)

THE CURSE OF FENRIC (1989)
Shows a different, somewhat darker side to Sylvester McCoy's doctor, and has a chilling little story with just the right amount of weirdness to it.

GHOST LIGHT (1989)
Another odd little tale - but with a great cast and a clever story. Well worth seeing.

But that's just my humble opinion. There are some episodes I personally would avoid - I disliked THE THREE DOCTORS and THE GREEN DEATH, and there are others that have been hit and miss. But you should give them a go - and bear in mind that often they were struggling with virtually no budget whatsoever, so I always try not to let the dated effects and sometimes appalling make up ruin the fact that the stories are usually excellent.

Possibly, but the truth is not all the episodes still exist - a lot have been lost (mostly from the older ones) and not all the episodes that do exist are available (yet) on DVD. (The video releases may still be around though).

I certainly haven't seen all of them, but I still managed to enjoy all the ones I mentioned just fine.

But yeah, I'd still agree that watching as many as you can in the proper order (in as far as is possible) is a good way to go, just don't believe it's essential to be able to follow all the stories.

That I can't help you with - it's more a personal opinion thing, but I'd have to say that I loved the classic series, but it took me a while to grow to love the 'new' series (David Tennant finally sealed it for me with the 'second new' series) and then I gradually came to love the Chris Eccleston series (- though I still can't tolerate the Slitheen).

The old series don't have the budget of the new ones, nor the modern 'spin' that the newer ones have. They may also seem a bit 'slow'and dated compared to the new series - but they have wonderful stories, each of the old doctors have their own charms, and despite a few clunkers, I think there's much tp enjoy and commend in them - plus the new shows keep the mythology established by the old ones, so some of the references made in the newer ones will make sense when you look back on the older ones.

Will you like them as much - probably. But it's impossible to say. However I do believe you have nothing to lose and possibly a lot to gain by trying them. But that's just IMHO.

If you do give them a go, please let me know what you think - I'm curious as to what you'll make of them.

Well, THE AZTECS is (presently, as far as I know) one of the oldest Dr Who stories out on DVD (1963) and it's actually fascinating to watch in terms of Television history as much as it is a story. But...hmm...if you like Daleks start with something like GENESIS or REMEMBRANCE. If you want a taste of the other doctors, start with THE 5 DOCTORS.

But...actually the best thing might be to check out the BBC Dr Who website. That way you can see what's out there and see which most catches your eye. It probably would be best to see them in order - but since they had plenty of stand-alone stories and since they aren't all readily available, I think a pick and mix approach works very well too. You'll soon find which doctors you like (or don't) and which stories you like or dislike. There are (admittedly) a few clunkers in the mix, but there are a lot of really shiny gems too. Have fun exploring!
