Shanti thinks about the Captain's words for a long moment. She's not used to saying anything other than sir, or miss, or master. Banner's entrance distracts her from her thoughts.

Shanti cringed when she saw Banner rubbing his hair with a spatula! "Mr. Banner, Si..." She caught herself trying to say 'sir' again. Lords, this free woman thing was harder than she thought! "Errr., Ummm Could you maybe drop that in the autowasher, please?"

She reminded herself to run the dishes through an extra sanitizer cycle after dinner.

Taking the Captain's cue, she slid the schematics in front of herself and pointed to them. "I don't know if we've got the manpower, sir, but it seems to me that the best thing is to get two people through the front door, here."

"Now, most banks have their safety deposit boxes here in the outer vault, so getting there isn't the problem. Once there, we'd need to kidnap a staff member, force them to open the inner vault."

She taps thoughtfully at the maintenance shaft. "This comes right up under the main vault floor, I assume it's got some kind of airshaft entry into the vault, in case someone gets locked in or something."

Shanti waits until everyone nods agreement, and notices that Banner has dropped the spatula onto the counter, not in the autowasher.

"The shaft comes out here, right next to this shuttle dock. I would say, all we need is to get some of us to come into the shuttle dock, come through the maintenance shaft and meet whoever goes in through the front door."

She looks seriously at Mononoke, "Do you think you can tap into their cameras? Somehow make it look like we're still in the outer vault?"

Mononoke looks startled, but reaches for the schematics to see for herself.

Darren walks into the galley and sees mostly everyone at the table looking at something. He walks over to the sink with his mostly picked clean plate and puts it in along with the utensils and the glass.

He says to everyone "So what are ya guys and gals lookin' at and discussin'?"

Captain Faolin speaks up "We're going over the schematics for the job."

"Oh ok then." Darren replies while taking a seat next to Shanti. He continues to say "Is there anything I can do on this job or should I just stay onboard?"

He walks over to where Shanti has the schematic laid out, and pretends to study it. As he leans over, he whispers to Shanti:

LUAP: Well, sure'n it should! I'm no criminal master-mind of course, but it's a sound plan. The only hitch in it I can see is obtaining a courier license, but that shouldn't be too hard for someone here to forge, right Mononoke? I understand you tutored under Mr. Universe for a while, and should be able to make a passable forgery, remove security cameras, and confuse guard patroles, right? After that it should be simple enough to get our fake courier shuttle into the shuttle dock, and just fly off with all that money.

The Captain was smiling as he sat with Puro in the bridge the plan was set. Shanti was getting more confident and his crew was about to pull off the biggest hitch of there life. He looked at Puro and couldn't help feeling sad. Puro reminded him of River, didn't know why but he did. maybe it was the quiet as if always in thought. Who knows. Was is right of him to leave Serenity I mean his friends were...

In her room, Shanti slaps together the last of her disguise and glances in the cracked mirror over the sink.
Not too shabby. She looks like a respectable, core-world professional woman.

She only hopes Mononoke got that courier license, otherwise, the shuttle team would have a hard time getting to where they need to be.

With the additions to her purse that she'd borrowed from Darren, she thought she was just about ready... with one exception, and it was one of the hardest things to do.

She heads back into the galley and finds Captain Faolin. She ignores his surprise at her appearance, recognizing it as a "well done!"

"Captain, sir, seeing as you and I are going in the front door, I was wondering..." She hesitates, "Am I going to need a weapon?"

Doc Luap didn't know if his services would be needed once this job was over, but looking around at the crew, he wasn't terribly impressed. Half of them seemed to have no idea what their part in the plan entailed, and the other half... Well, some of them seemed as if they were not the sharpest pencils in the set.

The plan itself was good, he felt. Basic, simple, get in and get out. The simpler they kept it the less there was to go wrong. Now the only thing left to chance was the Human Error factor.

Which of these simpletons is gonna botch it up? he thought to himself. Or perhaps, which will botch it up first?

He smiled and nodded to them as they passed him on their way to the shuttle hatch, and said nothing.

Shanti takes a deep breath to answer, but Banner is already shoving a pistol into her hand.

"Yah jest squeeze here, darlin. 14 rounds in the clip, one in the chamber."

"I ...errr.." She looks uncertainly at the gun, then holds it up, pointing it at the wall and sighting down it. The captain is busy making sure everyone knows their job, so she just tucks it into her purse, along with the laser cutter, and the pliers. "Right then. Let's rob a bank!"

"Banner, you and Gail are coming up from the ventilation shaft. Doc, Darren, we'll need you in the shuttle."

Shanti glances at Darrens watch. "We should be in the outter vault in thirty minutes. Another ten to get the attendant to let us into the central vault. That give you two forty minutes to get into the maintenance shaft. Once we're in the vault, we'll cut through to the shaft for you."

I've got to drop out of this. Sorry, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to doing justice to this story. I'm also incredibly sick of composing, foreshadowing, writing dialog, etc. for 20 minutes, just to have the server crash on me and loose my posts over and over again! It’s just more frustration than I’m willing to deal with right now.

I'll keep the good Doctor live and rolling for a bit, because Shanti needs him to further her exposition.
Where are our other authors?

Shanti follows the Captain out into the bustling street. She's been to core planets before, but never as a free woman. Suddenly, everything seems very bright and shiny. Women walking by catch her attention, and she finds herself studying their styles; what they wear, how their hair looks, how they stand, and how they speak to each other as they peer into shop windows.

She sees one stand straight and scan the busy street, preparing to hail a hover-cab, and tries to emulate her stance and demeanor.

The reinforced concrete structure rises up before them and she reaches out and takes the Captain's arm, ready to play the happy bride. Not so far from her usual role when visiting the core, she thinks bitterly, but manages to plaster a happy smile on her face as they pass the first guard.

The Captain punches Dr. Luap's access code into the keypad and the door opens for them.

where the heck is everybody?

Shanti pulls the gun and points it at the bank manager as Captain Faolin grabs her from behind. "Now, just stay nice and calm, and nobody comes to trouble, dong ma?"

The woman nods frantically, and Shanti grabs her hands pulling them from her sides and checking for emergency beacon devices. "All right, now just open the inner vault, nice and calm like."

"You won't get away with this." The woman hisses, and Shanti can't help but grin.

"I've heard those words before, and guess what?" Shanti leans close, feeling reckless, "I got away with it."

"Lovely chat, ladies." The Captain glances at the cameras, hoping Mononoke got them taken care of, "Now open the VAULT!"

Inside, they turn and seal it behind them, the woman's eyes growing wide, "NO! That autolocks! Nobody else is on shift who can open it! We'll be trapped!"

Shanti smiles politely as the Captain, as gently as possible, hits the woman in the back of the head, knocking her out cold.

"We're in." He transmits to the crew, and Shanti pulls out the laser cutter and finds the spot where the diagram showed the maintenance shaft.

From below, she hears Banner's voice, "We can get it from here, darlin'! Stand back!"

The captain is already ripping open drawers, stacking cash and coin and Shanti moves to help him, her eyes widening as one drawer reveals a case filled with black diamonds. "Jackpot!"

Darren nods and says "Yes I do Mr. Banner."

Darren pulls out the plasma cutter from the bag he was carrying and turns it on.

Banner says to Darren "Alroiyt then start cuttin'."

Darren nods again and starts cutting through the grate.

"One. Little one. Very little." He answers, unable to say no to her perky grin. She picks up a medium sized one, and he shakes his head. "Smaller than that. Now get that put away with the rest."
