I almost posted this as well. I'm glad I looked around first! Was this guy responsible for giving the order for the firefly cancellation?

Maybe Grushnow's next job will involve asking: "Would you like fries with that?" Here's hoping everyone else involved in FIREFLY cancellation gets the boot as well!

I actually have no idea wether or not he was involved in the Firefly debacle. I was just hoping there was some unemployed TV exec FFF.net lurker.

NIGHTTRAIN

I believe Universal now owns the rights to Firefly, so we'd need someone to get a job at universal to ensure Firefly's return.

I would like it though if someone here could get a job at fox as president and run the company into the ground to revenge the cancellation of Firefly.

Actually, I belive Universal has only the movie rights. I think FUX ... er FOX still has the TV and print rights.

That's how I understand it as well. Well, I don't know anything abotu the print rights, but I agree that Fox PROBABLY owns the TV rights still, and Universal just bought the movie rights. I wonder what that includes, if they could only make a theatrical release, or if a driect to DVD production would be considered a movie as well.

Anyone know for sure who owns what at this point?

Rob

Interesting, the articles about Grushow's departure all seem to be linked to several series failing last fall. Too bad they didn't give Firefly one more year, I bet the ratings would have been way better than "Joe Millionaire Average Fantasy Island Bachelor", or whatever piece of junk they have been running lately.

Careful, that last one could give FOX an idea for a new show...

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

From the article:

Quote:

The results in Grushow's final year at FOX have been mixed. After the network scored consecutive demographic victories during the last February and November sweeps periods, prospects were bright. The successful summer launch of "The O.C." and revitalized baseball ratings set FOX up for a strong fall, but a succession of failed series -- including the disastrous "The Next Joe Millionaire," "Luis" and "Skin" -- have the network stuck in fourth place overall and barely clinging to third in the demographic race.

What a shame. Guess people got tired of that piece of garbage they call a reality show, "Joe Millionaire". What an obviously scripted little soap opera that turned out to be. There is no "reality" in reality shows. It would appear that Fox's 15 minutes of fame are gone.

Now all we need is a successful movie, a network to pick up the new series, and for it to become a leader in its time slot and bury Fox program that appears opposite Firefly. That would be poetic justice.

i DO aim to misbehave

Doesn't look like he's getting "the boot." Doesn't even say "We wish him well in his future endeavors" which at my former slave-driving company was code for "asked to leave." Basically this article says he's gotten his fill of murdering quality TV and is going to go start his own production company so he can keep right on doing it.

Is he THE serial killer of our beloved Firefly and other quality Fox programming? Who knows? This kind of thing - chairmen leaving - doesn't necessarily change the company being left. I'd think that if an Executive Producer were to ditch, that might have some stronger impact, but I'd be willing to accept input on that.

I agree, but I don't see it happening. Intelligent television doesn't get good ratings, never has. The closest to a smart hit was probably x-files, and I don't remember it ever being a ratings champ. I think you have to go all the way back to M*A*S*H to find the last intelligent television series that fared well in the ratings. The American television viewing populace doesn't want smart tv, they want gimmicks and stereotypes and canned emotional pieces read to them by old people. Lawyer shows, cop shows, and 60 minutes. Nothing that assumes any intelligence in the viewer.

But I'm not bitter or anything.
