...on June 22, even though it means that I will have to drive about two hours alone to get there and beg my parents for use of a car because I don't have one of my own.

I REALLY want to go to a Serenity screening. They sounds like they're all gonna be might fine shindigs. Preferably, I'd want to go to one in Chicago, since I live in the 'burbs and it would be a much shorted drive, but the http://cantstoptheserenity.com/ website still lists Chicago as in "pre-planning" which, with only eleven days left, I think means it will fall though.

But Milwaukee is already selling tickets, so that means it's on, right?

Really, the drive doesn't scare me off at all. The having to beg my parents for a car part will be a pain (silly college, making it pointless to buy a car), but... well, I'm used to it. What really scares me is going all by myself. This might sound lame, but I really freeze up in social situations. I'm weird that way. I either click instantly with people, or it takes me two years to warm up to them, with very little middle ground. I'm working on it, trying be more friendly, but... well, it ain't exactly the easiest thing in the verse. I don’t mean to be antisocial, I just freeze for no good reason.

It would really suck if I drove all the way there only to find myself in one of my “I can’t make small talk to save my life” moods because the reason I’d like to go so much (aside from being able to see Serenity on the big screen one more time) is to meet browncoats who are just as obsessed as me! Everyone who posts here seems so awesome. :-)

So, if you all could convince me to get over myself and go anyway (assuming I can get a car for the evening), it would make me one shiny browncoat. And, if you happen to be planning on attending the screening, would you mind introducing yourself? It would help me out if I knew someone else who was going, I think (well, I hope, anyway).

Thanks a bunch, and sorry for being whiny. I’ve had a really craptastic summer :-(

Peace.

Katie

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Craptastic summer is boo, I'm sorry.

Ok, here's the thing about going to a screening: You know that there will be browncoats there. You know you have something in common with them. For me (also not always the most social) that always makes it easier. When in doubt you can just say "So is this not the shiniest thing ever?" or something along those lines. If you do so desire, you can easily start a conversation. Look for the people wearing shirts or coats or something first if you're nervous; that way you know they aren't new converts. "Hey, shiny shirt!" is a decent ice-breaker.
I'm not going to that screening or I would gladly introduce myself. I'm going to mine here, though, and I'm hoping to meet browncoats. Real life people I can see! How shiny will that be?
Go. And if you do clam up, just enjoy the experience of the Big Damn Movie on the Big Damn Screen; where it belongs! Maybe afterwards you'll be more able to chat; maybe you'll meet a new convert and can say "So hey, you know there's a show, right?"

Thanks, Phoenix. You make excellent points. :-) *gets excited about wearing a firfly-themed t-shirt and having people know what it means*

Okay... you kmow what? What the heck. I have a vague sense of adventure somehwere in me. I'm in.

Now, I just gotta buy myself a ticket...

so, anyone else going to Milwaukee? 'Cause I would still very much love to know at least one person there!

This is gonna be so shiny...

I know you want to be convinced to go to the Milwaukee screening but I just want to interject that judging by the discusion at the chicagolandbrowncoats forum the Chicago screening is a go. They've got the venue and they are tracking down the print so barring an unforseen snag....

really?

can you post more info on this? or a link to the forum discussion?

I just bought my ticket for Milwaukee, literally 30 seconds before you posted it, so I guess I'm going unforseen sags or no. Or... hmm Chicago is a 23 screening and Milaukee is a 22nd... maybe I'll go to both (or not, becuase Milwaukee would be a much more annoying drive).

Now I know I'm nuts -- I've gone from seeing none to two in less than twnety-four hours.

Besides, if you're shy, you can just arrive at the last minute, then burst into happy tears at the first sight of our Girl flying across the screen, and then everybody around you will hug you as THEY cry, and poof, you've got friends.

Oh, they're different nights? You should totally go to both! I would LOVE that!
*wishes the two screenings within driving distance of her were not at the exact same time*

The most relevant post is the six from the top posted by maryquesera. Looks like we should know for sure by tonight.

Can you do a time warp and also catch the Minneapolis screening Thursday night?

I am sad that I'm going to miss every screening. If they'd managed to put one together for LaCrosse I could probably have made that one, but Earth-that-was life is interfering with going anywhere else.

*glares at her copy of "How to build a time machine" (really, sitting on my desk right now* It never works, so unless jump to the left and a step to the right actually do create a rip in space-time...

Arcadia,

I could've written your post...except for having to borrow a car.

I'm driving about 2.5 hours to see Serenity on the 22nd. I've never seen it on the big screen...and I.Will.Not.Miss.It. There is a closer screening, but it too is in "pre-planning" so I don't want to risk it.

That said, I can't find anyone to go with me. And I am very shy around new people. This may be equal parts bliss and torture. Grrr. Argh.

We are leaves of a tree... and we will soar! On the wind, no less. Well, I hope anyway...

This is going to be your first time seeing on the big screen? You're in for a treat! Even if it is awkward meeting new people, seeing it on the big screen is gonna make it all worth while.

Good luck with your screening, and have a safe drive *hands Rugbug a copy of the Firefly soundtrack for the ride*

Peace

Arcadia

PS -- actually, if you don't have the soundtrack and wanted it, send me a PM with your e-mail adress and I'll try sedning it to you. I am half-computer illiterate, but I think I know how...
