So I have watched through the DVDs a few times now, including the commentary, and had friends and family watch it all with me.

So far, all agree FOX was dumb... (yeah!) and that the show rocked.

The few things that I have been thinking/wondering though are:

How did they chose the cover art for each disc, and why the choices made?

Why were they not able to get all the cast (well EX-cast) to do commentary? It would have been interesting to hear the others reflections on the show.

My sis and I have been watching the DVD and after each episode we shake our heads in disbelief at how this show was man-handled and mistreated by the weasles at Fu--I mean FOx.
Regarding your question about getting all of the cast for commentary: I'm thinking that everyone might not have been available because of work commitments.
I'm glad that they got interviews with most of the cast, but it would have been nice to also see some of everyone's audition for the show, as well as commentary from the Emmy Award winning special effects team.
I'm glad that the weasles saw fit to release the series in a set, including the episodes that never aired. (Imagine, Captain Tightpants sans trou! I sure would have liked to have learned about Mal's tattoo...*sigh*...)
Maybe it's me, but is anyone else thinking that had Fox given Firefly the same treatment as it has given the silly "O.C." (i.e. repeat airings and a chance for the audience to "find" the show) then we wouldn't be having a discussion about a canceled show, but a DVD set of the First Season?

I also would have been cool if they could have put the entire crew on the disk covers. Something like...

Disk 1: Mal/ Inara
Disk 2: Zoe/ Wash
Disk 3: Book/ Jayne
Disk 4: Simon/ River/ Kaylee

-------
Well, here I am.

Yeah, it would have been nice to be talking about Season One. Oh well.. maybe the movie will be so cool that someone will say "Wow, we should make a series about that..."

And even with work commitments... would have been nice to get just a little blurb. They all seemed to love the show. Maybe it was just too heart breaking?

I mean you have Glass saying how he looks forward to when he can watch it without tears.

Oh well.. we have the DVDs and can have viewings :)

Kelso: Yeah, the art choices puzzle me... maybe in time it will make sense.

The dvd's were a real treat for me not only becauase of the unaired eps, which I loved, but there were also two or three that I had missed. Shindig, which I missed, is now my favorite episode. Okay, yeah, I'm biased. It was my fav since I saw the "Written by Jane Espenson" in the credits, but what the heck.

I haven't watched all of the commentary episodes, though I imagine I will eventualy. Yeah, it would have been great to get more cast in on the commentary. I've found that cast commentary tends to be more entertaining than that of the writers, producers, with the OBVIOUS exception of Ms. Jane Espenson on Sindig, of course.

Actually, I think the only ep with commentary I haven't watched yet is Serenity. But I know why. I hate to say it, but Joss just gives boring commentary. I suppose he can't be good at everything. heh.

Joss and Nathan go to town on Serenity... :)

I liked Joss for Objects in Space ... it was nice to here the amount of effort he put into that episode.

Yeah Nathan said that at the Con apparantly. Believable? I dunno ..

So I had a new thought though.. Did everyone get the same cover art? Mal/Zoe/Jayne/Book ?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I got the same 4 characters on my discs. I had not heard that anyone had different characters on theirs.

I have to agree w/ TallGirl, I think that the cast that did not do commentary had other commitments that kept them from doing it. It would have been nice to have something from them, but I suppose those are the breaks.

I would have liked to have seen a walk through of the set by Joss & cast, or perhaps had the commentary done with actual footage of them giving commentary.

My cover art appears to be the same as yours. Why did they ignore the other characters? Maybe they're saving them for season 2 (wishful thinking...)

Sorry to be repetative here; I asked something in the tag lines but didn't see if I got an answer. Does anyone a disc 4 case that has a different grip than the other three?

TRAGICSTORY

My one observation on the DVDs. If you watch them with subtitles, you can see some parts where they mutter in english and the subtitler inserts [speaking chinese] instead of the english. Which I thought was strange considering I would have thought they cut and pasted the subtitles from the script. But I guess you never know with Fox.

Lord only knows...

They may have had an autoscripter running.

I have never really understood how subtitles are generated most of the time.. the amount of errors I have seen are insane... (but not in Firefly.. .just in subtitling in general)
