Be honest you can't like all Whedon shows the same, so if you were forced to choose only one show to ever watch again, which would it be. I know this may seem like a dumb thread being on a Firefly specific site, but I love surprises, and you may surprise yourself if forced to pick.

Buffy is my favorite by far. If it wasn't for Buffy I never would have even thought twice about Firefly. Do you remeber the old days of Buffy on the WB? remember the magic from week to week? Buffy in my opinion will stand the test of time as a great tv series. Wish I could say the same for Firefly, but no show that lasts around a dozen episodes is ever considered a classic....unfortunate. Firefly is almost like it never happened, a good what if scenario. You have just witnessed a brilliant show that got cancelled. Now what if it didn't(speculate, become sad, move on). Oh well I still have Buffy.

Oh and about Angel. I liked seasons 1,2, and 5.

Same here. Angel was better than Buffy IMHO, and had more episodes than Firefly, so there's more to enjoy.

I have love for all, and if Buffy had ended earlier, it would be closer, but ultimately...

Firefly.

There's just this sense of family, of belonging, that Buffy lost and Angel almost had. I feel the characters in Firefly, I'm the tenth person at that mess table. Although it is short, by almost every merit, I think its the best show overall.

I'm gunna have to with, and I think I'm the only one so far, BtVS.

It's what got me hooked on the Whedonverse and without it I doubt I would have got into Angel or Firefly so for that alone Buffy gets my vote.

And I owe it all to Dazedlam for telling me about it too !!! Cheers mate

Gonna have to go with Buffy. I love Firefly, but there's not enough of it and I've already got all the episodes memorized. If there was more it'd be the clear winner, but with seven seasons... yeah, Buffy wins. It's hard to get bored with a show when there are over 100 episodes to watch ;)

I caught all of them late...Firefly after it was cancelled (not too hard, it lasting only 1 season & all). Buffy was good, Angel was almost as, but Firefly, even being only 1 season, was far and away the best. The combination of the basic premise, the characters (not to mention a cast that welded together became more solid than titanium), a rhythm of language (both 'Firefly'-speak and Chinese)not found anywhere else; all together just cannot be beat.

Buffy.

If I had seven seasons of Firefly to obsess over (maybe just two or three would've done the trick) it would've been top...if it had continued to be as brilliant as it was. But you just can't compare 1/2 season to 7.

Why is so much emphasis being placed on the length of the series? Maybe Firefly wasn't as long as the others, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a high-quality, well-acted series. Not trying to say anyone's wrong, but I don't see what that has to do with anything.

RugBug, I thought about the most personally affecting moment in Buffy (last few minutes of Chosen), and the same of Firefly ("Everybody dies alone." or "Don't tell em what I done; make something up..."), and I'm left with the idea that Firefly was just more 'real' to me, and on that alone, my decision is made.
But Buffy is such a rich tapestry from which to draw , I can easily see your decision...

I never did watch much Buffy. I'm sorry, truly sorry, to all the Buffy fans here, but I really, really can't stand Sarah Michelle Gellar. I don't know why she bothers me so much but she does. The one episode I watched all the way through only featured her as an almost side-note. So, having never gotten into Buffy at all, I also never watched Angel. Hearing that he was "Buffy's Vampire boyfriend" really got to me in the first place. I'm sorry, but how soap-opera can you get? The Slayer in love with a Vampire...
I'm sure the writing was good, I'm sure it had some great moments and all that is apparently inherent to a Whedon creation but I just...didn't...care.

I completely sympathize, PR. SMG was one of the things that kept me from watching Buffy when it was on, though I am willing to give it a try (if only to see the episodes with our captain in it ). I never watched Angel either, but I guess I felt like I would have to watch Buffy to really understand it.

Firefly. Why we still talkin' 'bout this?

I have seen quite a lot of Buffy (unfortunately), all of Angel except the final episode (it's not really over until you see the last episode, right?), and all of Firefly. I did not like Buffy at all. Sarah Michelle Gellar ruined it for me...Allison Hannigan was the only reason I would watch it at all. I really liked Angel, and that made me try to watch more Buffy, but I just couldn't do it...I tried, I really did, just could not enjoy it.
Then came Firefly. Well, Serenity came first for me, but I think you know what I mean. Firefly turned me into a Browncoat. I have never before joined an online community dedicated to anything, let alone a tv show...it changed the way I think, talk, and sometimes act. So, yes, Firefly has my vote.

I was really reluctant to get into Buffy to at first. The whole concept... some of the stuff that I'd heard (that it was very soap operay). It struck me as a very silly silly show. But what it came down to was this: it's Joss Whedon, how bad can it be? It's another creation of Joss. So I gave it a chance. I started with season 1 and told myself I'd watch through season 2. If I really didn't like it by then I'd give up. ...and I fell in love with the show and its characters.

All the things that people say about the show... well they're true. It is very soap operay at times... it is very silly at times. But it is also Joss Whedon. Which means that the individual actors don't have to be stellar. The writing is amazing and just like Firefly (though not quite as well) they welded together into a strong cast, shoring up each others weaknesses. And to be honest... Gellar grew on me. There's more there than people give her credit for.

So in short, yeah, if Firefly had gone longer it'd probably beat Buffy, but then again, part of the reason some people don't like Buffy is becuase there were a few rough seasons in there... maybe if Firefly had gone longer it'd have some of the same problems as Buffy. But for me right now... I've watched the Firefly episodes more times than I can count converting new folks. I've got em all memorized beyond memorization (I can quote many of them start to end in the way I used to do Monty Python episodes). And frankly... I'm kinda bored with the episodes that exist. Were there more I'd gobble them up in an instant... but there's not. So Buffy takes the cake for me. There's simply too much there for me to memorize like that, so I can keep rewatching it and getting the pleasure of watching it for the first time... almost.. becuase I've forgotten what happened since I last watched it.

I love them all, but have to go with Firefly.

Mind you, that's probably because it's what I need to see right now. I'm not a teenager anymore, or even a young adult. I need to see what Joss has to say about being a middling-aged adult, about being married, about having kids, and about being an ordinary person in a universe with infuriating bureaucracy on one side and scary chaos on the other.

Gorram it, I need to see how Zoe and Wash would've handled their jobs, their marriage, and a kid all at the same time. I need to see how Mal would've handled being competent but not particularly special in a universe pretty much indifferent to his success or failure. I even need to see how Simon would've handled just not being able to do the work he most wanted to do.

Now I'm getting all worked up again... I'm kinda embarrassed about just how obsessed I am.

Buffy, no contest. It's completely unfair to Firefly, because I was watching Buffy as it aired when I was in the second grade (heh, my parents didn't know I was watching it; hence, my watching it), and it was the first show I ever got attached to, at least while it was still on the air. I stopped watching mid-fifth season, I just couldn't stand Dawn, but I'd pick Buffy if only for the first three seasons.

I don't know if I'd go for Angel or Firefly after that, though. Angel has a lot of the memories that Buffy does (since I watched that right from the beginning), but Firefly is just damn fine television.
