Ok, we all know that the main draw of FF is characters that are REAL people (well, fabulous writing, tremendous acting, and an original setting are awful nice, too). What character(s) do you relate to, and why?

For me, it's Simon. (My favorite character to watch is Wash, and I WISH I was like Mal, but I digress). I've always been a 'brainy nerd' type, so he fits there. I also am exceptional at inserting my foot into my mouth (it's quite at home there by now). But, it's his unconditional love for his sister that seals it up. I have a baby sister, about the same age difference at Simon/River (I'm 23, she's 15). My sister is even a gifted ballerina off at a private school far away (as is Summer Glau (sp?)).

Point is, I would give it all up for my baby sister, and that is why I can relate to Simon the strongest.

Sorry of this thread has been done before, but there's lots of new faces around here, so maybe they will want to chime in.

Feep Flying,
Rob

Suprisingly, I relate best to Book.

I spent three years studying to be a Preacher... so I find his outlook very refreshing, and something I can always relate to.

Unfortunatly, I don't have a secret past however.

HUMBLE

I relate to Mal more than any other character on the show. Can really relate to ep:Out Of Gas. Believe it or not, had a similar event happen on ship I was stationed on (Engine room mishap). This ep really freaked me out. But yeah, I guess I tend to think and act in VERY similar ways to the character of Mal since I was a child.

I forgot to add that I relate to Simon because I am head over heals in love with Kaylee. ('course, I dated this girl that looked just like Mrs. Reynolds for alomost 3 years... but that is a whole 'nother story).

Anyone else care to share?

FLYINFREE

Mostly (70%) I'm Mal, don't do well with authority, very independant (self-employed, not looking to get rich, just looking to get by and be allowed to live my life), very loyal, jaded and believe more in honour than law or religion (like Mal I have a big problem with religion). I tend to be closed off around people I don't know/trust, ornery and would REALLY have a problem with someone who hurt somebody I cared about. Partly (20%) I'm Wash, I tend not to take life too seriously and can be very wacky around people I like and trust, also can't fight worth a damn. And to a small degree (10%) I'm Jayne, I have no conscience to speak of and can say/do hurtful things without thinking.

When I was young I was 100% Simon; smart, dorky, awkward, innocent and loyal, wearing my heart on my sleeve. Life beat that out of me though and hardened me really fast.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I would say Mal. I am a former soldier who grew very disillusioned with the military. Like FreeFlyin I tend to not do well w/ authority, am happy w/ getting by instead of trying to amass a fortune, and would be perfectly content out in the black. I have a small tight knit group of friends and tend to be a bit guarded and suspicious of people I don't know.

LADYJAYNE

I relate to two different characters as well, neither of them female. I'm about 80% Wash. I try very hard never to take anything too seriously and I often use humor to hide any personal insecurities I have. I cringe at the thought being violent, and in spite of my obsessions with bad boys, I'm a total weenie.

On the other hand, Jayne is my Id. I'm about 20% Jayne. If I were rich, I'd be the biggest hedonist this side of Caligula. Its very true what I said earlier: I think like he talks. He says the things I'd never have the cajones to say in polite company. Although in company that's less polite, I do tend to talk like him. The friends I hang with at the dance club on weekends know me as a foul-mouthed bitch. I also have a terrible reputation for chasing very young men.

Every time I spot a thread I want to respond to, my answer comes in right under LadyJayne's. She's gonna think she's got a stalker.

But onward. Short answer: I relate most to Mal, for his stubbornness, defiance of authority, and moral outrage. And his often cold humor.

However, I rarely shoot people, stab them with swords or kick them into jet turbines. So the way I express all that shades more toward Simon's archness (such as in response to Jayne). With a bit of Wash's silliness thrown in.

Oh, and Inara, too, 'cause I'm dead sexy.

I swear.

CLANGASSOCIATION

I'm Simon hands down. I'm studying to become a psychiatrist (which requires med schooling), I generally don't warm up to people until I know them really well, I sometimes unintentionally insult people, and I'm at the butt end of a lot of pranks.

THALOS

I most relate to Mal.

I have my own sense of morality which is usually at odds with "the establishment" but shared by most others. I do what I say, and say what I do. Always look out for "my crew". And of course I use sarcasm whenever possible to withstand hours of torture.

"Whoa, good Bible."

RIV

I think I'm a little of everyone, but I'm mostly Wash, River, and Zoe. Strange, but true.

I'm like Zoe because I can be really serious and strong. Plus, I always call this one person, 'sir'.

I'm like River because I often say really strange things, that make perfect sense in my head, but it comes out as rambles. I'm also smarter then you'd think.

I'm like Wash in that I'm calm and cool when it gets bad, I care about those around me, and that I'm damn funny.

Right from the start, I can relate to Wash. I used to play with dinosaurs exactly like he was in episode Serenity. I've also had a crush on Kaylee for a long time, so I am a tad jealous of Simon.

River, I think. I feel left out, and I'm incredibally smart.

Or, Wash, beacause I can usually find something funny for the stuation.

Don't know. I mean, very hard to tell.

Book, hands down; I'm philosophical, spiritual, and intellectual. I also practice martial arts (which is to say that I'm both bookish and active), and I very nearly became a monk about twelve years ago.

CIARA

It's so hard to pick one person, isn't it?

so I didn't

I'm a bit like Jayne--I have a violent streak in me--my Father was a cop, so I like knives, crossbows, weapons of all types (never got terribly used to guns) There is a bit of the hedonist and sadist in me--but no more than usual, I don't think

Im a bit like Kaylee--a LOT actually--always happy, the one who has to keep everyone else upbeat--at the sacrifice of myself--

And I'm also like Simon and Inara--self sacrificing (Simon) and empathic and mothering (Inara)
